skindogger47
Is anyone else here disappointed with the coaching style of Ernest Byner? He was a good running back for us, but Im not sure I like him coaching our RBs. I feel like we are lunging forward too much at the point of contact and not striving at all to get yards after contact. There were several instances last night and definately in previous seasons where gigantic holes opened up on either side of the line but the running backs would just dive into the pile and get the safe 2 yard gain. He also made Rock lose a bunch of weight while trying to get Clinton Portis to gain some, which took both players out of their most effective body types--Rock isn't the bulldozer he used to be, and Portis seemed very topheavy and off balance last year from bulking up his upper body. I know everyone is talking about our offensive line's struggles last night, but does anyone else share my sentiments that perhaps our running backs need to be more creative? 2006Skins
Hinesight is 2020. Can't look too much into the preseason. I would say make judgements when CP is back in there this season.
posse87
Portis put on the extra weigtht after the 2004 season. It was on his own and in response to the style running game Gibbs runs it really had nothing to do with Byner.
stupidsuck
how can you comment on his coaching styles if you're not out there seeing what and how he's coaching every day?
skindogger47
how can you comment on his coaching styles if you're not out there seeing what and how he's coaching every day? The same way everyone here comments on lots of things they seemingly know nothing about. It seems like we give position coaches the benefit of the doubt when the loss of Dale Lindsay has obviously helped this team. it's not all the coordinators, you know. And before Portis got here he definately was a much more elusive back.
DaveP666
Seems when Betts was on a 5 game 100yard+ streak no one questioned our style. Everything is counter to critisism when it doesnt produce big plays. I worry about all our coaching style right now. I see a 5-11 just around the corner if we dont start to gel a little more. PCS
Well, at least folks are finally getting around to firing some other coaches on the team.

Skins Addict
Redskins had the #4 ranked rushing offense last year in the entire NFL. Coach Byner is a true Redskin and needs to stay.
Touchdown Redskins
I don't mind Byner. BUT, he needs to teach Betts how to behave on the second level of the defense. Too many times Betts would seem to run into the safety, rather than pick up 10 more yards by putting on some jukes. I know he has that in him, I've seen him do it. In any case, Byner is doing a great job, and our running attack should only be tweaked, not overhauled.
