SkinsTillIDie
Now that Bramlet has been cut, it doesn't make any sense to release Brunell or Collins. Palmer will be a practice squad player, and that's that. Anyone who suggests otherwise can't see the bigger picture and is not being a realist. If Campbell goes down, there is no way in hell that Palmer could step in and lead this team, managing an incredibly complex offense that even veterans like Brunell couldn't master in their first year. Maybe Brunell/Collins aren't the most athletic or strong-armed at this point in their career, but we CAN win with them behind center. Palmer, not so much. Smoot Point Really
I think Campbell's problems can be explained by the offensive line. Otherwise, he had a pretty fine night when he wasn't fumbling or running from defenders. He also meshed pretty well with Santana Moss and ARE... Look forward to seeing him throw some balls to Cooley. Brunell looked really bad because he played against 2nd teamers (with 2nd teamers, of course) and then he played against 3rd teamers (with 3rd teamers) and he still played poorly. Then Todd Collins came in against the same 3rd teamers and was perfect. That made Brunell look even worse, since many still think Collins is probably not the answer to backup quarterback. I basically feel nothing changes because of tonight... You heard Gibbs criticize Campbell's play and we haven't heard at all what he thought of Brunell's play. Our QB situation will probably remain as it is: 1) Campbell 2) Brunell 3) Collins 4) Palmer (practice squad) Based on performance: 1) Campbell - wasn't perfect, but went against better competition and played well with the his primary targets. 2) Collins - was perfect against same competition as Brunell 3) Palmer - looked good holding a clipboard. Didn't play, so obviously looked better than Brunell 4) Brunell - probably looked worse than he ever has.
Wyvern
I've been a big fan of Brunell, when he's been healthy. He's a saavy vet, a team-leader, and still elusive. He's careful and minimizes the turnovers. IF (a big if) Mark's fully recovered from his 2006 injuries, Brunell can still quarterback in the NFL. However, it remains to be seen whether Brunell's style fits well with what the Saunders' offense needs. Brunell seems more comfortable being mobile (rolling out when necessary) and letting the play unfold -- Saunders' plays have a much quicker tempo, and require quick decisions and quick accurate passes with zip. Collins seems a better fit for QB in Saunders offense than Brunell does, but if Brunell can adapt and stay healthy -- Mark would be better overall. I suspect, deep down inside, that Saunders would prefer having Collins at #2 QB over Brunell. However this is Gibbs' call, so expect to see Brunell at #2, Collins at #3 and Palmer on the practice squad.
praise_gibbs
Why is this of much surprise? This is the league of what have you done for me lately. If your game is up, you are cheered for. If your game is down, not so much. I find it hard to believe that this is really a surprise to anyone.
AceSkinsFan
I love how this entire board has been calling for Todd Collins to be cut for two years basically. He comes into the first preseason game of the season , completes 5 passes against practice squad players, and now there are multiple threads and gobs of posts calling for a promotion.Even though it was Brunell who was sharp in the scrimmage and Collins who looked abysmal. Even though Brunell is a former Pro-Bowl quarterback that took us to the playoffs two years ago and damn near was was back in Hawaii that season. Im not trying to toot anyone's horn here, I'm not big on either guy. They are old and immobile. But are backup system is actually pretty good I think. One is veteran who has started tons of games in this league who would not be fazed by having to make a sudden appearance, and the other is a system guy who can help teach our young starter and has a very firm grasp of a very complicated offense. Our depth chart will remain the same. JC-MB-TC. Anything else is silly. I can't wait until next week, when Byron Westbrook will pick a pass and everyone will be calling for him to start over Carlos Rogers or Fred Smoot. I don't care if he won the game or not, I still think Collins should be cut. So if sticking to your guns is classic, than consider me as vintage as a '57 Chevy. Redsknz4life
Thier are a few of us that have always had Collins over Brunell, you can go back and look at my threads anyway. I dont know what it is about Mark Brunell, he has never ever EVER been the best quarterback on this team and yet he gets most support? It's just not acceptable that well he is Joe Gibbs guy. Gibbs 2 has had a free pass and it is not right, especallly going into his 4th year! If he keeps Brunell on the roster, then Synder needs to do something. Serouisly I agree with you completely! I don't understand some of the people on this forum. Some of these people need to open their damn eyes. Playing a smart game checking down every play will not win many games. Jofizz
I've kept quiet about Todd. I don't bash any of our players. I know what capabilities Todd has, and he showed us why he deserves to be on our roster last night.

Hog Lover
Anyone who utilizes the search function can easily see how anti-Brunell I tend to be, so I wouldn't be upset if somehow he didn't make the field this year. But I wasn't overly impressed with Collins yesterday, and I wouldn't want him to see the field either. Jason Campbell has a lot on his shoulders this year and much of our season is dependent on his play. We are loaded around him at all offensive positions, so if he can play well, we'll be in good shape.
BraveWarrior
From where I stand its not so much a pro-Collins thing as it is an anti-Brunell thing. Sure the guy is a vet but he's not even a solid option anymore nor has he been for the last two years, so why in the world are we using up a roster spot with him?So please don't confuse advocating Collins at #2 as a flip, its just that he's the best option that we have for that spot IMO. This poster just won the prize. It's really just time for Brunell to go. If the decision was mine to make, I'd take the guy who knows the playbook and still has some gas left in the tank over a guy who can no longer contribute because he's lost his #1 characteristic - mobility. kevinklein
Whereas I'm trying to reserve judgement on both QBs until a bit further down the road, I still ponder how you've come to the conclusion that it was Brunell who looked sharp last night... Joe Sick
I love how this entire board has been calling for Todd Collins to be cut for two years basically. Nice sweeping generalization there. 70k members and we ALL agreed on when Collins should be cut? If we posted a poll on what color the sky was, I doubt we would get 100%! Your thread loses credibility when your first sentence is a fallacy. Some of us were saying last year that if we were going to use an old QB, not giving JC the reins, it might as well have been Collins, since at least he knew Saunders system. Knowing the system backwards and forwards allows a QB to mask his weak arm, or lack of mobility.
Campbell's_da_man
Well, after one pre-season game to see which vet will get cut, the score is Todd Collins 1, Mark Brunell 0. But it should be noted that without Todd Collins one and only series, the Redskins would have been shut out. Knowing Al Saunders system is a great advantage for Collins over Brunell, especially when you consider neither is very athletic, which used to be Brunell's ace in the hole. Walking Deadman
I love how this entire board has been calling for Todd Collins to be cut for two years basically. And a large portion of the board has been calling for Brunell's head since 2004.
