But a lack of indictment, after 2-3 years of investigations does lend a legitimacy to the notion that its not a black and white issue. It means that there must be a lot of unsubstantiated information.

I really doubt there are few people who think Bonds didn't use "something". What cannot be accurately shown, it appears, is if Bonds knowingly used illegal substances.

You're right. But lets be honest - he took some ****. You know it, I know it, Bonds knows it, megared knows, Selig knows it, Al Capone knows it, and the American public knows it. Did baseball turn a blind eye? Yep. Is it fair Bonds is the poster boy? Nope. Was he still the only one able to hit 757 home runs even though 75% of the players were roiding? Yep. Is he one of the greatest to ever play regardless of roids, race, or era? Damn right.

I don't understand why people think you have to be on one side of the fence or the other with Bonds.

Oh yeah, and he's an ******* too. :)

What I said previously - why is it when Cal hits 30+ at SS he's 'revolutionizing' the position, but when A-Rod hits 50 it's because he's roiding? Why isn't he just viewed as further revolutionizing the position? The guy hits home runs, it's what he does.

You admit yourself that it's a "revolutionary" thought that a shortstop could hit thirty four home runs.

So how revolutionary is it that just 10 years later, someone tops that by 17 home runs SMACK DAB IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STEROIDS ERA? lol

Totally agree. I can't figure out how somehow two wrongs make a right these days.

Lost me here. Even before he started his growth spurt and coincidentally home run spurt he was still a hall of fame ballplayer. To me that's the worst part of his (alleged) cheating, he really didn't need to. I know lots do, and a guy trying to keep his job might do it to keep up with the other guy, but Barry wasn't one of those guys, and never has been. He never had to enhance anything to be an annual all-star and an eventual hall of famer.

As far as the * goes, nah... if you do that then the Barry Bonds supporters have a legitmate beef to go back and make them inspect every single record there ever was for any discrepancies at all. What a joke that would be.

They used to laugh and tell me that two of the Redskins Super Bowls would have an * beside them, and here we are 25 and 20 yrs beyond them, and there's no asterisk in the official record books.

I'm resigned.

Go A-Rod.

Ok, if 2 wrongs don't make a right, than what would you do rather than an * before the record??

I know it will never happen, I mean look at Micheal Irvin. Here is a guy who lived in TROUBLE and was a complete coke head, yet he gets into Canton before Art Monk, who was just as great and was above Irvin in sportsmanship.

I just have problems with guys who are so obviously cheating like Bonds getting recognition for it. It sort of sends a message to our youth that, even if you cheat or do wrong, as long as you can overcome it by being or doing greatness that it will be forgiven and that's wrong. Especially if your wrong doing got you to that greatness!!

I don't think an asterisk is the way to go because of the reasons i mentioned above.. you can't ever prove what everyone or no one did thru history, and that is what will be demanded.

I say swallow the bitter pill that Bud Selig blew down our throats, and say "Go A-Rod".

Why can't you put the * with the saying "player achieved record suspected of using player enhancing drugs"

I see your point, but not every player has been suspected of using. There may be more, who no one knows about, again ignorance is bliss. The ones who break records and have been known or suspected of need the *. I see your arguement, but Bonds has so much evidence piling up against him that it seems hard to deny the fact. In your scenerio, I think there would have to be more than alligations of a player using. I feel IMO that Bonds has way more than just allegations.

You can put it there, but I think it opens Pandora's box.

You are right that Bonds has way more than just allegations against him, but isn't that mainly because all of the focus has been on Bonds and not on other lower-profile players?

Maybe so.. but, as you can see from his rookie card as PFT has kindly pointed out..

He wasn't always ripped.
