damn, McGwire's 70th went for over 3mil

time's have changed

400,000 is nice, but doesn't go that far

Back then, Baseball was a feel good story. Now, this ball is somwhere between that and a football signed by the XFL MVP. Why pay millions when anytime an investigation could turn up something awful?

I'm sorry, but you can't put a price on an XFL ball signed by Tommy Maddox.

My stance is **** him... I personally believe he is guilty and should be banned.

BUT, he is a great hitter. You cant knock baseballs out of the park without great hand eye coordination. Sure the juice helped in the distance, but does it make you hit better as far as the mechanics go? No....

Anyways, HTTR, football season is almost here!!

Barry Bonds has a Career OPS over 1.0, he is a member of the 40HR/40Steal club, He is the only member of the 400HR/400Steal, and is the only member of the 500HR/500Steal club, has a record seven MVP awards; his closest competitors trail with three, was selected to 14 All-Star Games, has won 12 Silver Slugger awards, more than any other player, and eight Gold Glove awards. Just breaking the Home run record will not unseat Barry as the best all time player.

Pretty much everyone significant in baseball was taking something illegal five years ago when baseball refused to test for anything. Sluggers, pitchers, little skinny stortstops - all of them were cheating.

Yep - YOUR favorite player was taking steroids, or HGH, or greenies or something.

Oh yes he was. Stop kidding yourself.

Canseco estimated that 75 percent of MLB was doing something illegal.

So, Bonds used his HGH enhanced muscles to swing at a steroid enhanced fastball from Roger Clemens and hit a line drive over Steroid mountain Mark McGwire to right where it was fielded by HGH boosted one dimensional hack Sammy Sosa who threw toward steroid enhanced Ken Caminiti at third base, who missed the tag on greenie buzzed Neifi Perez. The play was backed up by steroid packed Pudge Rodriguez coming up from the catcher spot. And so on.

It is what it is.

It slays me that people automatically assume that A-Rod is clean. As if a 50-home-run-a-year shortstop is nothing to second-guess.

And let me say this for Bonds:

It's not possible to cheat when no one cares.

Yes, he probably did take "the clear" which was undetectable to steroid testing. But explain to me how this matters when NO ONE WAS TESTING FOR ANY KIND OF STEROID UNTIL LAST YEAR.

He's a fish in a huge pond.

Show me a reason to believe he's not clean, and i'll stop rooting for him. Something like, oh, 3 shoe sizes worth of foot growth in the last 7 years. A couple hat sizes would be good too .

Look at the picture of him as a rookie and now :) (his head is bigger) plus the anger alone did you see him last night staring at the bluejays, that is a man possessed

That anger was well earned and suited. They threw at A-Rod twice - Roger did what any real pitcher should do and stuck up for his teammate. I love the fact that he received congratulations from the Yankees in the dugout after he was thrown out. **** you, Toronto.

Welp, I guess Ken Caminiti and all the rest must not have been doing anything because their hat sizes didn't change.

Hypocrites KILL me.

Sure, condemn Bonds, but let's assume big head Clemens is clean, just because he's Roger Clemens. It's amazing how many people condemn Bonds, but see nothing wrong with others using the juice, if Bonds even uses the juice. That STILL has not been proven, and that really gets the goat of all the Bonds haters.

If you comdemn Bonds and everyone else that even could be using steroids, then I respect you. But I'd really look into ARod, Roger and a bunch of other players before you begin to cheer for them. And don't take their clean steroid tests as evidence that they didn't cheat, because afterall, Bonds has not failed one 'roid test, but he's guilty in most of your opinions.

The problem is, none of you are consistent with your opinion on Bonds and others, so your opinion means ****.

I applaud you Barry Bonds. Congratulations.

i guess you forgot the old "I got it" or the nice spikes into 2nd base the night before, heck I hope they throw at Arod again for the crap he has pulled against them

I didn't see the spikes thing. But, I don't care what he did - you throw at A-Rod, we throw at you. End of story.

#1, it has been proven, he admitted to using roids. He's just never TESTED positive since the drugs he admitted to using were designed to be undetectable. Why people cant make that distinction, i have no idea.

Anyways, thats not the point. Your point is about hypocracy. I think that if you dont believe at least 50% of all MLB used performance enhancing drugs, you are crazy. The fact though is there is more evidence against Bonds than anyone else, from his grand jury testimony, to his change in body type, to his documented affiliation with BALCO. Is it an air-tight case? No. Is it a really really good case with all signs pointing in the same direction? Yes.

The problem is, this is an all-time record. He's not competing against clemons, hes competing against history, and he DOES have an unfair advantage over the earlier great long ball hitters. Imagine if Hank Aaron had roids available to him. Thats my issue. He may be playing on a level playing field with those he's competing against now, but he's not on a level playing field with the guys who his is passing on the All time homerun list. Does that make sense?

Yup. But no at the same time. Don't hate on him because he's doing (allegedly) what everyone else is nowadays. The onus shouldn't be on Bonds. Or Clemens. Or Canseco. Or McGwire. Or Sosa. Or any of those guys. It should be on baseball. Period.

Also because they weren't testing for anything until 2 years ago (or whatever).

Oh, i agree. MLB and Cadillac Bud deserve more blame that anyone. There is TONS of blame to go around for the sorry state the game is in.

But for any of those cheaters to have what is probably the most important record in sports is a travesty. Especially one that is such a horrible representative of the game.

He's probably the best player to ever play the game - how is that a horrible representative of baseball?

I think this is the idea that has most people upset - that Bonds has an unfair advantage over Aaron, but if you think about it, he already has a bunch of unfair advantages over Aaron even without steroids - lighter bats, body armor, better nutrition and weight training - there's a whole lot of stuff that isn't the same today as it was 30 years ago.

I think we shouldn't think of it as players competing against those of an earlier era ... they're competing against records, just numbers really, and they are records that are meant to be broken. 756 doesn't make Barry a better home run hitter than Aaron, just like nobody thinks Emmitt Smith is a better runner than Walter Payton. It shouldn't diminish Aaron, and if anything, this whole chase has made us appreciate Aaron even more. People still think Babe Ruth was the greatest home run hitter of all time even after Aaon and after Maris. This doesn't automatically qualify Bonds as the greatest home run hitter ever - it makes him the record holder ... and someday somebody will pass him too.

Because he cheated.

Because if he ever met you, he would rather spit on you than sign an autograph.

Because he doesnt respect the earlier greats of the game.

Because he goes out of his way to be a ******** to fans and the media.
