So I was having it out with my buddy the other day, he's a hardcore cowboys fan btw, and he just started saying all kinds of ludicrous comments about certain accomplishments the '07 cowboys would achieve. I think that they're so ridiculous I'd share them with you. My only regret is that I won't be winning a whole lot of money off of these 2 :( . Here they are though

1.)The Cowboys will finish between 12-4 and 14-2

2.) Demarcus Ware will have 15 sacks....minimum

Feel free to add input

your a big winner...thats all i can say.

I just had a similar conversation with a Skins fan that said he guarantees that the skins win at least 11 games and that they WILL have a top 5 D in both scoring and yards against.........I'll be gettin me some side cash on those two bets.

being a fanatic is great, but you have to learn to keep your mouth shut and your wallet closed.

Getting to 12-4 is optimistic but not impossible if a we stay healthy and a few scenarios play out in our favor. I expect us to win 10 to 11 games.

You're absolutely nuts if you don't think point #2 isn't very realistic.

So I'm absolutely nuts to think that Demarcus Ware won't get AT LEAST 15 sacks this season? Did you read what I typed correctly?

Even though i am a huge Dallas fan and just love D.Ware and I too think he will be great in this attacking system........only 2 guys in the NFL last season had more then 15 sacks. Merriman (17) and Kampman (15.5). Its not realistic to say he will have a minimum of 15...........thats just too many. An over/under on him should be set at about 11. I mean, i think "he could" have 15, but to come out and gaurantee that and make a bet on it is crazy......You made some money of both bets......

I think it's pretty crazy saying ANYBODY will have a minimum of 15....you won't ever catch me saying something like that

The only problem there is that weren't the cowboys unbelievably healthy last season? I thought I remember reading that they had one of the fewest # of injuries last year. If that is true, it is rare for something like that to happen two years in a row.

Okay, I guess what I'm saying is that he CAN easily reach 15 (3.5 more than last year) this year. It's a bit bold to state he will have atleast 15 guaranteed at minimum. I just wouldn't bet that he will ABSOLUTELY NOT reach 15.

I think #1 is VERY optimistic. Our schedule is fairly tough playing Chicago and New England plus the fact that 3 of our 4 games in December are on the road. I'm also concerned about the 1st game against the Skins... we're on the road vs Philly and the Giants then come back home against the Skins for our 3rd divisional game in a row... there's no telling what can happen with that game (or any divisional game for that matter).

#2: I think is entirely possible (not guaranteed but highly possible). Word out of Training Camp is that Ware is just dominating whatever lineman tries to block him. Tim McMahon of the Dallas Morning News has increased his over/under on Ware's sacks from like 11 up to 13.5 as Training Camp has gone on.

Also gotta keep in mind that this is Wade Phillips' defense... the same guy that coached Merriman and Shaun Phillips last season... both of whom had double digit sacks. Wade has also stated that he thinks Ware is quicker than Merriman where Merriman was more of a power rusher.

Chris Canty (DE) is also getting much praise for his pass rushing ability during Training Camp. An OLine trying to deal with Canty and Ware on the same side might have some trouble so Canty will also benefit Ware.

you know what, word out of redskins park 2 years ago was that taylor jacobs was going to light up the receiving corp.....we saw how well that worked out........ you have to be an absolute fool to think ware will be getting 15 sacks...hell if he gets mroe than 8, i will be putting the star of dallas as my sig

You didn't comment on my thread...please do so :)

I dont think we win 12 games, 10 is more likely

As for the sacks I think Ware can get 15, he got 11.5 last season when in coverage 40% of the time. this year he will rush much more often I dont think adding 4 sacks is a stretch

Mark me down for that bet!

The only way he doesn't get 8 sacks is if he misses like 10 games of the season.

15 sacks is a buttload particularly for a player learning a new system. It is within the realm of possibility but I would hardly say it is likely. To put this in perspective, Lawrence Taylor only did it twice in his 13 seasons. Merriman is the only 3-4 LB in the last 5 years to accomplish it.

If I were in Vegas and those bets were on the board I would hammer them (under on both). The Cowboys schedule makes the 12 wins a tough, tough get. Even if they hit on all cylinders they are going to have a rough time getting through the season with 4 or fewer losses.

Admittedly, I don't watch every Cowboy game. Having said that, I have yet to see a Cowboy game where I've found myself saying, "Man, they just can't do a thing with Ware. He's dominating the game." I've seen him make plays here and there, but, to my eyes, nothing worthy of this huge build-up he's gotten. Lots of players make plays here and there.

Now, I'm sure I'm wrong about him, and Cowboy fans will tell me just how wrong I am, pointing out his 11.5 sacks last season. Of course, Lavar Arrington registered 11 sacks in a season, too, and he wasn't even a very good pass rusher. The fact is, there is more to being a LB than sacking a QB. Playing the run. Coverage. Filling gaps. Hell, the Redskins GAME PLAN to isolate Cooley on Ware. They fooled him on the Portis TD run in the FedEx game last season.

Ware seems like a one-trick pony speed rusher that can be negated all too frequently. I guess the Cowboy plan will be to get him on the LOS. Roy Williams will be on the LOS. Seems like every defender will be crowding the LOS. It's OK, though, Newman & Hamlin will cover everything beyond 10 yards.

Ware very well may be a monster this season and I'm not saying he's been garbage up to this point. I just think he's firmly in the overrated category, at this point. If he has a season that lives up to his hype, I'll have no problem giving credit where its due. He's pretty much going to have to be all-world to do so, though.

So if the Cowboys go 15-1, you win? :silly:

Seriously though... your friend isn't a very smart guy. Obviously b/c he's a cowboys fan. But those two statements are just dumb. And it's one thing to say as a fan of your team, but another thing entirely to wager on

The offense can't just simply gameplan to get a matchup with a player on this defense. Parcells virtually ran the same exact formation on every single 1st and 2nd down. That allows the offense to dictate what the defense has to do as far as which players are in coverage etc. Phillips rotates his OLB's to get the matchup HE wants rather than just lining up the defense and allowing the offense to dictate what the defense HAS to do.

To be perfectly honest, you haven't seen enough of Ware if you think he's just a one trick pony.

Also, that was Greg Ellis on that side of the field on the long Portis TD last season... not Ware.

I agree that Ware is a very talented player and hardly a one-trick pony but to date I have yet to watch a game with him in it (save the Seattle preseason game his rookie year) and think "Wow, that is a dominant player." And by the way, do you really think that if Dallas lines up with Ware at another position that the other team won't audible the play or the blocking assignments to account for it? That's called game planning.
