Theismann Takes ESPN Money To Sit On Sidelines - 7/31 - theis2.jpgAt washingtonpost.com, Leonard Shapiro talks to Joe Theismann (left) about the March decision that got him benched from ESPN's "Monday Night Football" booth crew after 19 seasons of doing football coverage for the cable sports network. And the Redskins great again denies rumors that he and "MNF" color man and Post superstar Tony Kornheiser didn't get along. Though he signed a new five-year contract to do "MNF" last year, Theismann will not be on any of ESPN's studio football shows. The network offered him a chance to do college football with Brent Musburger, but Theismann politely declined. Other networks might be interested, but not at the price Theismann commanded from ESPN, so he'll take their money and let them worry about his bottom line.....

Since he's doing some preseason work for Mr. Snyder, and he's getting paid by ESPN to do nothing right now. Why do I get the feeling that if he's not doing Sports-Network related stuff this season, that he'll be working for the Skins? Is it that far fetched? With Dan Patrick leaving ESPN, why wouldn't Red Zebra go with a local line-up all afternoon? Or try to put Joe on one of their current radio shows?

Not that I think he's great at it or anything. Just a thought.

If Theismann gets another job, ESPN doesn't have to pay him anymore.

If I'm Theismann, I sit and wait for 5 years and get paid. :cool: (at least until someone offers more)

After that, take a cush job with the Redskins and wind down.

No doubt about better reception. Its awful. I agree about the better local stuff also. They can do better than Larry at noon. That's just being lazy.

I think Danny did that on purpose, so you can go switch to 94.3 if 92.7 isn't coming in clear, and if both on the FM stations are crap, then you have to switch to 730..I find myself doing that a lot on the ride home from work :doh:

are you kidding me? were you high every MNF game? Joey T does nothing but compliment the Skins, reference the Skins, and talk about how great Gibbs is

he's one of the biggest homers you'll find in the public eye when it comes to the burgundy and gold icon12.gif

He did pick them for the Super Bowl last year. He is also at camp again this year. You're right, he shows no support.

I LOVE JOEY T!!!! He's my All Time favorite Skin along with DG.

He was definitely a "homer"...often picking the Skins to reach the SB.

I also prefer his "in the face" mentality like after Keyshawn scored his first TD several years ago...he called him a jerk on national TV because of the way Keyshawn was pounding his chest like he did the greatest thing in the world.

Theismann ROCKS and I'm glad he'll still get paid by ESPN...milk it up baby!

Waste of Burgundy and Gold? He only won a SB for us and got us to another one. Every time I have heard of him talk about the skins, he has been fair, most of the time.

Yes, he is arrogant and ****y, but, what former qb out there isn't.

Get over it. I personally don't care what he does, but, I do appreciate what he did for the Redskins when he played.

I would love for Joe to be either with the Skins or in the local media somewhere, somehow. I do think he and Tony K don't get along, probably due to Tony K's stance against Art Monk for the HOF.

I didn't know about Tony K. being against Art for the Hall. That has to be a sore subject between him and Wilbon as I think Wilbon has presented the case for Monk as least once that I know of.

The ONLY time Joey T has been "critical" of the Redskins was during our run to the playoffs two years ago. Theismann picked against the Redskins in the first of those five games we needed to win to make the playoffs and we won. After that, he said on Comcast that he would continue to pick against the Redskins as sort of a good luck charm, or not to break the jinx. He said he would root for them, but pick against them. Maybe this is what you are referring to.

If anything, Joey T has been a Redskins apologist. I like him on TV and radio and could care less if he had an ego back in the day. Nothing today suggest that he's a "pompous ass."

If you want to hate someone who is critical of the Redskins and is also a pompous ass, I would suggest Brian Mitchell. Me personally, I don't mind people being critical of a 5-11 team that hasn't done squat in about 15 years.

Theismann is not the SOLE reason that we got to any super bowl and if you ask any of the Skins fans at the bar I go to, he is an ass who is too opinionated and criticizes the Skins whenever possible. you are out of your mind if you think that a Redskins bar is full of Charger fans just because it is in San Diego. 99.99% of the people there are from the tri-state area and most of us go to games in Landover whenever we get to go home.

Joey T is the man, somehwat of a homer as a commentator ... but he calls it like he sees it. He just sees it differently than a lot of other folks out there. i disagree with a lot of the stuff he says, but at least he wasnt a boring stiff. I would rather have someone excited about their job, than someone who just says what is politically correct all the time.

Shame on anyone who wouold call Joe T "waste of burgundy and gold" ... that's a little harsh.
