squatch66
what do you think of the proposed salty for texeira trade with the rangers? im not so sure i like it. i think that salty has a lot of upside, especially from what i have been hearing and seen when tbs actually shows the braves. truth be told id like to see them trade thorman and have julio franco show teach salty to play first. anything to keep that bat. that and texeira is going to be FRICKIN EXPENSIVE to keep. im not so sure that liberty media is going to want to open up the pocket book and let the braves give texeira the contract that boras is going to be looking for. TheDoyler23
That trade wouldn't make sense for the Braves. Why would they give away Saltalamacchia for a 1.3 year rental of Mark Teixiera?
squatch66
that and the rangers are reportedly asking for another of the braves top prospects. i say if you want multiple prospects then you get one higher level and a lower level prospect. i still dont want them to do this trade though. i just dont think that texeira will resign with them. Heidenreich
They got him, so it seems. If I was a Braves fan, I'd be happy. They're going for it this year in a weak National League..... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2954457 The Atlanta Braves appear to be the winner for the right to acquire first baseman Mark Teixeira from the Texas Rangers. A preliminary agreement has been reached between the teams for Atlanta to receive Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay from Texas for catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, minor league shortstop Elvis Andrus and two minor league pitchers. Baseball America rates Saltalamacchia and Andrus as the Braves' top two prospects in their organization. The Fort-Worth Star Telegram, citing a Rangers source, is reporting that the two pitchers Texas will receive are 19-year-old right-hander Nestali Feliz and another pitcher to be determined. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the other pitcher involved in the trade is left-handed pitching prospect Matt Harrison, ranked by Baseball America as the third-best prospect in the Braves' organization. The deal will be finalized once players' medical records are reviewed. Major League Baseball's deadline to trade players without securing waivers is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. More in link........ Maxito
Atlanta got a good player in Teixeira. I am not sure of the trade, cause Tex might not sign an extension with the team. If Tex does sign an extension it would be a good trade for both teams.
Patrick86L
I like this trade because it gives us someone who can replace Andruw Jones next season when he walks away for the money...I'm hoping that once Mike Hampton's contract is off the books which I think it is after '08 we will then be able to afford him long-term. I still think we need another starting pitcher to make a run at the world series, so hopefully Schuerholz is still working on another trade... jbooma
The Mets and Phills should be worried now. This is exactly what they needed. With a weak NL this helps the Braves a lot.
macnoke03
I like it if Texiera is signed to an extension at some point. The Braves production from the 1B spot this year has been terrible. Now with Mark in the middle of the line-up they have arguably the best line-up in the league. The back-end of their rotation is still a question mark, as is the bullpen. TheDoyler23
...and they gave up Andrus, too. Wow, with that kind of deal, Schuerholz will be pressured even more to sign Tex to a long term contract. That kinda pressure works for Boras, who is going to want 8/150 or he becomes a free agent.

There is no way that the Braves can afford to sign Tex to an extention and resign Jones.
jthor99
I think Texiera will most likely end up signing an extension with the Braves. The Braves are a very smart organization they arent going to give up good prospects for a rental player. Yes, maybe a deal wont get struck right now, but i think come the end of the year the Braves will get a deal done certainly before he hits the open market where the Braves would stand not much of a chance in a bidding war for him. Joe Sick
Looks like the Braves are also going to pick up a left reliever too, which they need badly, no matter who it is... first baseman Mark Teixeira and lefty reliever Ron Mahay from the Texas Rangers to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, shortstop prospect Elvis Andrus and a pair of pitching prospects (probably including Double-A lefty Matt Harrison). http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7075888?CMP=OTC-K9B140813162&ATT=49 I wish the Braves had traded McCann instead of Salty. Salty has a GUN and is a switch hitter. He also would have been cheaper, at least this year. The rumor is the Braves are going to trade Renteria to CWS for Garland, as well as getting Dotel for Kyle Davies. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7074020 If this happens, the Braves will have added the best hitter, starting pitcher and reliever available at the trade deadline. Watch out, Mets!
the burgundy and gold
So does this move say bye bye to Andrew Jones. i'd say yes. They're only going to be able to sign one of them. And i seriously doubt that they would trade for Tex with the idea of letting him go in a year. I'd say it's pretty clear that Jones will be gone after this year and they will attempt to re-sign Mark Tex. Which is going to be a massive contract around 20 mil a year i'd say. Heidenreich
The rumor is the Braves are going to trade Renteria to CWS for Garland, If I were the White Sox, I'd do that deal in a second. Why would atlanta trade Edgar Renteria?
squatch66
to get yunel escobar more playing time. i doubt that deal goes down though as renteria is one of atlantas clutch hitters. as an aside i just thought i heard ravitch say on espn that saltalamacchia was going back and that four minor leaugers were involved in the trade. can anyone confirm? 70th Week
Braves acquire LHP Ring from Padres July 31, 2007 ATLANTA (Ticker) - The Atlanta Braves on Tuesday continued their frenzied pace at baseball's trading deadline by acquiring lefthander Royce Ring in exchange for lefthanders Wil Ledezma and Will Startup. squatch66
the texas clubhouse is in shambles. earlier in the season i was listening to espn radio and they were talking about how ron washington has lost that team. he almost got into a fight with gerald laird in the clubhouse after throwing him under the bus to the media. texiera hates him too. not to mention the fact that texeira went to georgia tech, his wife is from there, he has family there, and he has already bought property there. i hate to say it but the braves just found their replacement for andruw jones.
