If your parents parted ways before they concieved you

Let's say that your parents never concieved you... they broke it off before and went their separate ways....

Would you be here?

Would you be your Father's child?

Would you be your mother's child?

Would you be better or worse off than you are now?

Discuss...

I have no idea what would happen...

BTW I actually thought of this sober, but waited for awhile to post it...

Right but lets say, my mom married your dad and had a child.... would the child be me, you, or someone else? (soulwise)

um I think it would be someone else. Or maybe a combo of me and you. That is kinda wierd though. Maybe we would each control different bodily functions.

Wow. this thread died fast.

Who knows, you may end up being someone else. Reincarnation, anyone? My question is even if you weren't concieved, would you still know who you are? Would you wonder what it was like being other people or would you just be lost, not knowing or understanding what is going on around you. That's given there's anything around you. Or if there is anything.

I believe I'd be somewhere chillin, having everything perfect like a heaven just for me. And then all at one moment I either get bored with it or get told to leave. Maybe I like life and it's struggles. The stupid thing about that is coming back into this world with none of the knowledge of your past lives except knowing how to swim; think about how weird that is, we are all born knowing how to swim but then we either forget how or just lose intrest in it all together. We all have our seperate reasons for doing what we do and how we go about doing it after that, and that's what makes us individuals.

I believe in souls either floating around the earth on being locked down to it for whatever reason. But I did have a nightmare once that every living thing was just one lucky group of floating electrons starting up an engine, one speak of light at a time, then clicks off like it never happened. We just flat out don't exist anymore, and we never come back.

Alright follow up question....

Does that mean that if anything was changed, you would probably not be "you" and someone else would be "you"? Is it a 1 in infinity chance that you are here?

Kinda sounds like the explanation of life on earth... if anything was changed, we'd probably not be here... (1* temp difference, faster spinning planet, etc)

Aparantly the formation of life on earth proves that there is a God... yet the formation of YOU doesn't necessarily support the idea...

The formation of the Earth does not prove there is a god.

And of course, if something changed you would not be you.

You're DNA from your mother and father. If you throw someone else's DNA in there than you are a different person.

And no one else would be you. There would never have been a you.

Oh, trust me, I've heard that arguement...

Of course you have.

If you make the claim that it "proves" there's a god than you are in the realm of science. Proof is a scientific term.

And you'd have to prove it scientifically which you can't.

You can certainly say you have "faith" that god created the earth.

But if you can let's hear your argument.

You exist only because you exist. If you did not exist, someone else would, or no one would. You are a product of the precise time, the place, the events, and eveything that biologically occurred to make you happen. You won the race to the egg, the cells divided in such a way as to produce you with a various combination of dominant and recessive traits. If your parents didn't do it at the exact time and place they did it, you probably wouldn't be alive today. Hell, if THEIR parents didn't do it at the exact time and place they did, you wouldn't be alive today. The odds are staggering, but someone has to come out, and it just happened to be you. If your parents had sex one day earlier or later, chances are someone else would be alive instead, and you wouldn't be any part of that person. Someone else would be their kid - or no one would if they didn't have any kids. You would have no essence and you would have no soul, and you would never have been alive long enough to egotistically presume that some aspect of you would still exist in some other dimension.

The universe has existed for billions of years, and you didn't realize what you were missing until you came to consciousness. So too it will be when you die. Or if you had never lived.

You ignore the obvious possibility.

Your parents weren't supposed to be your parents. I mean come on. How many of us have ever screamed at our parents as a kid "you're not my dad/mom!" Maybe as kids we're just more intuned with how the universe was supposed to be before all of this free will romantic love crud. ;)

Different DNA combination (nature), different upbringing (nurture) .... gives different result. There would be some shared characteristics, like that big nose, but you would not be the same.

You don't have a soul. :)
