Dan T.
We can't even co-exist with our own kind. What sort of reception do you think a ship from beyond our own planet is going to get if they were to make themselves known to us? An interesting question, especially if you look beyond the scenarios of the sci-fi films made during the Cold War 1950's.

Stew
I thought Mel Gibson and M. Knight Shymalon proved to us that the aliens didnt like water... so as long as you move to a wet climate like a rain forrest or Seattle, we should be fine... unless the aliens discover the technology of raincoats and gortex... at that point we will all be screwed. Chachie
I think it's a real REAL stretch to assume that unidentified lights in the night sky equates to alien life. For now, those lights over that England town can be considered unidentified flying objects. Only a fool would believe that the next logical conclusion is that they came from billions of light years away and contain aliens. Technically, you are correct, Dan. However, how long are we going to have these occurances all over the globe (at an incresing rate, I might add) and keep getting the SAME response by authorities? You don't find it odd at all that not a SINGLE government authority wants to address this matter? As far as the "billions of light years away" subject goes... Who says they come from outside our atmosphere? 3/4 of this planet is covered with DEEP WATER.
Metalhead
Fair enough. My position on on the connection between UFO's and life elsewhere is one of extreme skepticism. I'm open to the notion that with the staggering vastness of the universe, there might be other forms of life somewhere. But here's where the disconnect comes between that and the notion that UFO's are piloted by those life forms:Suppose its true - there is some other life form out there that travels to our little earth, only to hover mysteriously in the sky and scoot away. So they have the intelligence and the technical know-how to travel thousands, even millions of light years. They have pinpointed Earth, this tiny sand speck in some remote corner of a tiny galaxy. They have the curiosity to travel those vast distances to reach us. Yet with all that unfathomable intelligence, technical know-how, and intellectual curiosity, they don't close the deal. They don't attempt to make contact. They hover, then disappear. I'm not buying it. I don't quite agree with you here. First, you're using a human's current technology and present level of knowledge and compare it to an alien life form capable of space travel. There are so many unknowns. They may be doing exploring, scouting, etc. Heck, they may have just got their wings and taken the new vehicle out for a spin. And if they are that advanced, then they obviously realize that we are no threat to them presently. They could attack us all day and we have no way to return the favor or actually chase them. The best we can do is launch a pair of boots, a record of The Beatles and a Power-Wheel into space.

thehogs
A problem with that kind of film is that its against a completely dark background. There is no sense of depth at all, everything looks 'flat'. So, it looks as if the blob on the far right is moving directly towards the pattern on the left as if they are in the same plane, latitude and altitude. Its actually impossible to tell. The formation on the left could be quite some distance away from the other blob. Until you can get depth to what you are looking at its nothing more than your brain trying to make a 3-d picture out of a 2-d image. A similar thing happened with apparent UFO's over Phoenix Ariz. Looked like it couldnt be anything else until analysts started to put in background of mountains etc that you couldnt see in the pitch black sky then suddenly far more plausible stories came together. Similar sensible science is applied to our monster Nessie but they are of course wrong

Yeah, not to mention that if they were aliens, and had the kind of technology to travel from light years away, you'd think they'd have come up with a more tactful way of spying on us. You know, like turning off their headlights......

RVAbrendan
I saw a UFO last night actually, my first time. About 15 minutes outside of Richmond. IT was a rectangle type light in the sky, and then it just vanished, and left a ghost-spot of where it was before. Very eerie.
