I don't want to make excuses for anyone who is breaking the law, but its definitely possible that more athletes are being targeted, rather than more athletes are breaking the law. pjfootballer
Maybe if he wasn't driving drunk, then maybe he wouldn't have been targeted. I'm glad they TARGET anyone who drives drunk. Piss poor excuse just because he's an athlete. I don't want to die on the roads and the more they catch the happier I am. See ya in court DUMBanic. Fifty Gut
anyone who drives 26 MPH above the speed limit, especially in what I'm guessing is an expensive car, is gonna be targeted

I was referring to the TS suggestion that crime by NFL players in general is on the rise. I didn't say Dominic Rhodes, or any other drunk driver specifically, was being targeted. I wouldn't ever say any specific player was being targeted. I do look at a situation like Cincinatti, though, and say to myself "does it really make sense that all of a sudden a group of 50 guys went absolutely insane, or, is it possible that the police force has changed its approach to dealing with those 50 guys?" It seems like a reasonable question.

I've read rappers accuse the cops of having a rap task force or something that follows rappers around just waiting for them to **** up so they can bust them. Maybe theres the same kind of thing going on with NFL players... highly unlikely but maybe. Regardless though these guys are still doing something stupid and/or illegal to get arrested. It's kinda hard for the cops to arrest you if you aren't breaking the law. If you are gonna do something illegal at least be smart about it. Maybe they need to teach that at the symposium... No, I don't think anyone is being set up, nor do I really think individuals are being targeted, per se. Basically, I just don't think a group of 50 players began breaking the law out of nowhere. If 9 Bengals have been arrested this year, my guess is that all of these guys were acting pretty much the same way before, and local law enforcement changed their enforcement strategy. CaptChaos86
I dont know how they can "target" athletes. To be honest the police im sure dont know every player by looking at them. If ur driving fast and swirving then you are gonna get caught simple is that. You cant just sit somewhere and see a car go by and say "hey thats so and so from the NFL, lets get him" lets be real. Your right. My statement doesn't apply in any way to drunken driving. If that was the only crime NFL players were arrested for than my statement would be irrelevant. The club and other arrests where players commit crimes despite keeping a high-profile, though, are a different story.

OWUeagleMD
But you did say they are possibly being targeted.EDIT- sorry, someone else already brought this up. Yes, but I did not say Dominic Rhodes was targeted while being arrested on Sunday night. I do think it's possible that athletes in particular cities are being targeted, basically because it is the easiest explanation as to why it appears arrests are on the rise. I'm not even saying it is wrong, or that it shouldn't happen. I just have a hard time believing that from one year to the next players decided "rules don't apply to us." Defiant behavior from athletes is nothing new, but mass arrests in a short time frame on a particular team (Cincinatti, San Diego) is.
elkabong82
But you did say they are possibly being targeted.EDIT- sorry, someone else already brought this up. Sean Taylor's DUI case comes to mind. I don't remember the exact details, but I remember the judge threw it out, and numerous questions about the officers conduct were raised. Actually Taylor's other case, w/ the ATVs or whatever, was a case of one persons word against anothers, and the ones accusing him had previous records for theft, etc. A lot of times that wouldn't have hit court, especially not when your dad is the chief of police in miami-dade. Some players are targeted just because they are black also. Don't act like it doesn't still happen, it does. The cops don't know every single guy who plays in the NFL. A lot of the players who get arrested you don't hear about until they are arrested, and most people don't know what a lot of the players exactly look like, cuz they always have helmets on. So it might not always be a case of targeting an NFL player, but just targeting a black male. Of course a DUI is a DUI, but some other crimes by these players have seemed subjective. In any case, Rhodes needs to stop spending so much time with Mike Vanderjagt.
