CPortJGibbs89
I am not sure this will actually happen but I want to get some of ES thoughts on a possible business venture. My brother currently works for a store called QuickDrop, not sure if many of you know what it is but its a store that sells almost anything on E-bay for you. All you do is drop your stuff off at the store, they package it for you, ship it for you while taking anywhere from 30 to 50 percent of the sale price the more you sell the less they take. They will even come to your home and snap pictures of large items and post them online for you. My father is currently a Lawyer who owns his own firm. My father has always talked about opening some sort of business for me and my brother to run and for him to of course put up the funds and oversee things. I have always expressed to my father that any business he ever wanted to open I would be right there with him and do whatever it takes to make it successful. Well he came across an article in the washington post and knows my brother is already involved in a store like the ones in the article, the link is at the end of my post. For those who dont care to read the article it basically says that E-bay stores are very up and coming and could be the next big thing to hit the country, with the right location of course. These stores are few and far between in my area and to be honest never knew anything about them until my brother started working at them, and on the 40 year old virgin the girl he dates owned one and I thought that was pretty cool though. I am not saying this is like the dream business venture but it seems like a cool idea and could be fun. There are several stores in the article and including the one my brother works at that will let you buy into there franchise, they pretty much send you everything you need to open the store and train you how to run it, they say you really dont need experience but we have my brother. My brother also has a friend at his store who said he pretty much knows how to run the entire store which will give us a leg up. Like i stated from the begining I doubt this would ever happen but I told my dad I was very interested and he seemed to be excited about how much interest I showed in the idea. I know running your own business is very very tough and takes alot of time and effort but I am willing to put forth the effort. Just wanted to see if you guys thought something like this could really take off and just any other thought you guys could give me. Thanks fellas. Leonard Washington
i always thought the quickdrop idea was pretty cool. i don't see why you have to pay to get a franchise when you can easily set up your own business. you can easily outcompete quickdrop's fees and selling stuff on ebay is easy. Thanks for the comments. How much opportunity for growth does that give you? What if you're running the best Quickdrop in the area, do you have much latitude to expand the business or branch out into other online services? You're looking at possibly having two experienced employees (your brother and his friend) so knowing what you need to get started shouldn't be a problem. I would think it would at least be worth looking into starting your own company. I don't have any experience in the subject, so I can't give definite advice, I'm just pointing out things for you to consider.

They say it allows you to have alot of growth and you can open more stores if you want but I dont know all the details either but I will look into it. But yea I would not mind starting my own but I think you have to go through alot more steps to start your own wouldnt you. Thanks for the comments I appreciate it. Mr. S
i've thought of the idea myself, find things I could buy at wholesale prices that I know would sell on ebay for more. However, I am sure there is more to it. I sell stuff on ebay from around the house I don't need anymroe, and that is relatively easy. I've found some items through wholesale sites I could sell for more, but they require you to be a business, and that costs some money, not much though. I have a co-worker who sells things on ebay from time to time, he sometimes finds really cheap things at flea markets and sells them. My main thing is I am not sure what the profit margin can be. It does not seem like it would be much if you are getting it from other people and have to pay them based on what they want. But finding stuff yourself through wholesale ads or in flea markets or something could work. Good luck with it all and let me know how it goes, as I may try and join in at some point. I know another user here has store on ebay selling clothes.
IONTOP
I've actually thought of opening a store near stadiums that would let people drop off tickets that they have sold on ebay and whatnot and the store would hold them for the person that was picking them up. (Of course you'd have to supply a DL# or CC# along with a password that both of you agreed to, to be picked up)

You may not get rich off of it but, it would still be some more money in your pocket. I have to get some more info on it but, I do know a number of 'regular guys' who buy wholesale/liquidation products and sell them for profit. My brother told me that if you have something that sells for 100 dollars they keep up to 50% of the profit anything over 200 is like 40% and the more you sell the less they will end up keeping, but in a sense I think they rape you on the amount of money they keep. I was actually surprised when he told me they take almost like 40 to 50%.
notoriouslyKEN
I always thought it was a ridiculous idea to do something like this, until my mother did it. She lives in Gaithersburg and found a store http://www.i-soldit.com that would do exactly this for her. She said that she didn't have the time or resources to do it herself and she things its an excellent idea. She also said it was well worth the 30 or 40% they take. So far I just resort to buying random things I see on clearance if I see they could sell on ebay, but those end up only being 1-2 things at a time. to Cport, it does seem like a fine idea, but you just have to find the right area. You also need to hope for large item/price things to come in. Otherwise, it sound like it would work fine.
