We learn early in life about consequences. Why, if people weren't held accountable for their actions or failures, everyone might be like the Washington Redskins. Still, there are different standards of accountability. Atlanta Falcons coach Jim Mora was fired after his team went 7-9; San Francisco's Mike Nolan was hailed for the rebuilding job he did--after his team finished with the same record. Which brings us to Marty Schottenheimer, who nearly lost his job in San Diego after Sunday's divisional playoff loss to New England. Yesterday, the Chargers decided to keep Schottenheimer for another year. But he turned down a token contract extension through 2008--a reflection of his icy relationship with general manager A.J.
