PITTSBURGH - Russ Grimm sounded like a man who can't wait to coach the Pittsburgh Steelers. He can only hope the Steelers agree he's ready to become only their third head coach in 38 years.

Grimm, a Steelers assistant for six seasons and their assistant head coach for three, met for six hours Wednesday during his second interview in a week with owner Dan Rooney, president Art Rooney II and director of football operations Kevin Colbert.

The length of the meeting suggests Grimm and the Steelers were discussing more than strategy and philosophy, and that they may have started preliminary talks about a contract. However, neither side would confirm that.

"I thought things went as well as could be expected," said Grimm, the one-time star lineman for Pitt and the Washington Redskins. "I was happy with the way things went on my end but, again, I've got to sit back and wait for a decision to be made and we'll go from there."

Ironic that Grimm might be the coach of the most polar opposite FO to the Skins.

Stability. What a concept.

Indeed. I immediately become a Steelers' fan the minute Grimm signs on the dotted line. I've always had respect for the way they do things, the SHOULD be the model for the rest of the league but with Grimm at HC it'll be hard for me to route for any team (other than the Skins) that's playing the Steelers.

The length of the meeting might also have meant the Steelers were telling him how much they would like for him to stay whether they choose him or not...you can look at it both ways.

That would take about 3 minutes, and Grimm wouldn't have been very optimistic coming out of the meeting.
