2 -Back System for NFL Finalists...

It is not that they want to employ a two back system but neither RB on these teams separate themselves from the other. You don't split time with LT do you? If you have a dominant guy, you play him.

I disagree.

For the Pats, Dillon and Maroney are completely different kind of backs. Dillon is a (mostly) downhill runner meant for chugging straight ahead. Maroney is an explosive back who can make a play out of nothing. And for the Saints, take what I just said and switch the names with McAllister and Bush, respectively.

I think it's a sign of how things have changed in the NFL. A combination of passing offenses + RBs getting injured alot from the constant pounding = 2 back platoon system.

Where's John Madden to deposit his expert opinion?

"When you have two guys, it means you don't have one guy".

Well, apparently, you're wrong about that, John.

If you could pick between portis having the kind of year LT just had, a record breaking year, but get bounced from the first round of the playoffs, OR portis and betts both share the rock, maybe they both get 1000 yards and we win some playoff games which would you pick.

Case Closed.:2cents:

Furthermore, Joe Gibbs has shown an affinity for a two-back system. Earnest Byner/Gerald Riggs, John Riggins/Joe Washington, and now Clinton Portis/Ladell Betts. It's clear our running game has been working, even if the offense has sputtered at times. As much as I'd love to see Portis carry the load, I think it is beneficial to have Betts to spell him for 10-15 carries a game.

To me the success of a running back depends highly on the scheme, and offensive line. That is why all the good running teams have more than one successful back...you can almost plug any professional RB in the successful system and get good production. Prime example is Indy. Look how good Edge was in Indy, and now he is struggling in Arizona. And now both Addai and Rhodes but up good numbers this season, in the system that made edge a star.
