IRON MAN Casting News

"Gwyneth Paltrow may seem like an unlikely choice for a comic book movie, but the Oscar-winning actress is set to co-star in "Iron Man."

Paltrow will join Oscar nominees Robert Downey Jr. and Terrence Howard in Jon Favreau's well-pedigreed adaptation of the popular Marvel comic. The Paramount-distributed production is set to begin shooting in March in Los Angeles.

A May 2008 release has already been slated for the Marvel-financed flick.

According to a variety of media reports, Paltrow has been signed to play Virginia "Pepper" Potts, executive secretary to Tony Stark (Downey), the wealthy industrialist, Vietnam vet and alcoholic also known as Iron Man. The Potts character had a lengthy flirtation with Stark, but ended up marrying a different Stark employee."

Iron Man comic fans - do you like this casting?

I still hate the thought of RDJr as Stark. Timothy Dalton bears a much closer physical resemblance.

I wonder if they'll use the Iraqi war instead of the Vietnam war in his genisus.

Wounded in the chest by shrap metal, forced by the Viet cong to develop weapons for them, Stark develops a suit to keep himself alive which also allows him to beet the snot out of his captors... But he is a prisoner of the suit because it keeps the shrap metal from moving closer to his heart...

It was a cool way to start the character.

I could do without the clunky early armor though. The flying gold and red form fitting armor was much cooler than the clunky iron suit he used back in the 60's.

I also wonder about how Marvel treated the Vietnam war. Remember Tony Stark was a weapons manufacturer Industrialist who in the late 60's gave up making weapons because he turned against America's involvement of the war. This is the same time Captain America became Nomad, because he didn't want to be associated with America. Even GI Joe, became action Joe.. I wonder if they'll touch upon that tramatic time in our nations history at all.

If Gwyneth Paltrow were never in another movie again (or at least one not putting her in a fat suit), you'd never hear me complain.

Knowing Hollywood's treatment of things, they'll probably make Tony Stark's heart problem a birth defect or something congenital.

The movie does seem to have some promise with the caliber of actors and a decent director, but let's hope it doesn't lose sight of the whole comic book element and take itself too seriously, ala The Hulk. That was practically unwatchable.

Iron Man is different...a tortured, more adult super hero. I hope they do it well.

The Hulk was awful! I can't believe they're making a second one! Bill Bixby must have twirled in his grave!

Downey Jr.?? Am I the only one that thinks that is just an odd casting? He doesn't even look anything like Stark. Guess I'll have to take a wait and see approach.

Very odd,, but lets face it, the star is going to be the suit.

And TAony Stark is just dark hair and an Errol Flynn mustache.. anyone can do it.

Hopefully the heroin rings around Downey's eyes will be gone by the time filming begins.

Perfect Tony Stark: Rafael Palmeiro

:paranoid:

You know, you're right! But, I must say the Iron Man in the comics was a cross between Freddie Mercury and the lead male in a porno.

Ummm..... not that I'd know what one would look like! :paranoid:
