Cdowwe
Ah yes, another movie thread. My final year in college I took a sci fi film class and since then have been watching alot of them. Lets hear everyones top sci fi films. They dont have to be in order or anything, but feel free to. Heres my top films. I know some fall into other categories such as Alien being a horror film that takes place in space, but oh well. Blade Runner Alien/Aliens The Thing 2001 Space Odyssey Terminator/T2 Metropolis Brazil 12 Monkeys Forbidden Planet Star Wars/Empire Strikes Back A Clockwork Orange Matrix Dr. Strangelove Time Bandits Predator

EvoSkins
Bladerunner (Well before its time) Matrix Contact Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Play the tones) Star Wars IV, V and VI (the Original Trilogy was the best) Star Trek (Motion Picture, Wrath of Khan, Voyage Home, and Undiscovered Country only) Aliens (Space Marines are awesome) Predator (you are one ugly.....) 2001: A Space Odyssey (HAL....) Event Horizon (a possessed spaceship from hell) Donnie Darko (has scifi elements) Back to the Future (when this baby hits 88 mph, you'll see some serious *****) Akira (Hands down one of the best anime films of all time, brought anime to America) The Abyss (If you have not seen the directo's cut, it changes the film) Dark City (tuning) Tron (everyone wanted to ride those bikes) Starship Troopers (Unisex showers are great) Serenity (big fan of the Firefly TV series)
G.A.C.O.L.B.
I like War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise. I think it's an underrated movie. Signs was pretty good too. Edit: Just to be clear those aren't my two favorite sci-fi films of all time. They are just two that haven't been named yet.

RLeVan
Blade Runner (definitely, so many spinoffs that you can't count them) 2001 (Kubrick at his best, watching it today he was almost the Asimov of cinematography) Dark City (better if you watched Metropolis, but still a decent flick) The Martian Chronicals (it was a TV movie, but it kinda wigs you out) Star Wars (have to have it here, redefined special effects:fun but elementary sci-fi) Star Trek (what it lacks in special effects, it makes up in plot:fun but elementary sci-fi) Alien (no-brainer in the sci-fi horror genre) AI - (decent premise and if you paid attention, kept you asking what-if questions. Ignore the fancy effects and understand the story. Kubrick story done by Spielberg, still would have been better if Kubrick directed it.) If anyone lists I-Robot you deserve a swift kick in the nuts. That movie was the greatest ball of Hollywood feces that set foot upon this Earth. Anyone who has read I-Robot will know what I'm talking about. I'm pretty biased in the fact that the film can be absolute junk, but if the premise of the story line is decent enough I'm hooked. A better question would be, what sci-fi books need to be made into films. Isacc Asimov - The Foundation series is going to be the next Lord of the Rings. Pulling it off will be hard as hell, but it would be one heck of a story. It's almost laid out perfectly as a screenplay. Douglas Adams - Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy needs to be redone. RLeVan
I just thought of another one that is greatly underrated, I Robot (Keep your humor hat on, it's not a personal attack)Hahaha, and the "Kick in the Nuts" award goes to .....You! It's one of those, hey! let's take the title of a good book and turn it into a crappy movie that has absolutely nothing to do with the book. Oh wait, I'm wrong. They did include robots. Raub
Starship Troopers is one of the worst pieces of crap I have ever seen....and I just got done watching Warrick Holdman all season. It's a travesty that they turned such an excellent book into such a crappy movie. Its a sentimental favorite. Robert Heinlein is my favorite Sci Fi author and I know the book is many times better. I watched Starship Troopers when I was 10 and it was great. Its just one of these movies that you like because it gives you good memories.

gbear
Star Wars- all of them Serenity - when is the next movie? I wish they would bring the series back even though they killed a few good characters in this movie. Dune- all of them (I know sci fi channel special) Star Trek- Wrath of Khan and Undiscovered Country 5th Element- don't shoot me, I liked it. Enders Game - Sucks that Warner Bros is trying to **** with the storyline. They are trying to add additional love interests as an artificial plot device but OSC won't have any of that. They also want to change the ages of the children but that would completely destroy the story and Card refuses to let them do this.
Bang
Blade Runner is my favorite sci-fi flick. Great great movie. I also really liked the Matrix,, Terminator 1 and 2 were both good. Predator 2 is the best of that series, but more of a monster movie than a sci fi movie. Same with Alien and Aliens, but both have to make the list. No love for Star Trek 1? "V-Ger" was an awesome concept, and I thought they pulled it off rather well without getting overly corny with the characters. ~Bang
