If Colts lose to Pats, does Dungy gets fired?

Well, the Colts get a makeup for last years disaaster. They now have the AFC Championship at home and against the team that has tormented them so long.

If they can't win it and make it to the superbowl; will Dungy get the ax?

I think he should. This is the perfect opportunity for the Colts to finally make it to the superbowl and if they don't make it; Dungy must go.

I think the Colts will win this game on Sunday and win by double digits.

But...if somehow the Pats win I think Dungy is done. I mean he has an offense that is tops in the league and he is "supposed" to be a defense guru...or was at TB when he was there.

I like Dungy i just think they will make a change if they lose again in the AFC Champ.

Dungy has a history of "choking", but what the heck can he do? The only teams he's lost to in the past three years have gone on to win the superbowl! Patriots, Patriots again, and then the Steelers. Yeah, it sucks that they lost, but again. These teams were "hot". Nothing was going to stop them from winning the superbowl--it was just their year, you know?

Hopefully this year it's finally Dungy's turn. Anything's better than having the Patriots win again.

People here are way too reactionary. Fans are ready to fire coaches at half time of games of Super Bowls.

Dungy isn't going anywhere. Ridiculous.

I wouldn't be so sure...he's had a ton of success in the past 5 seasons (averages 12 wins a year) but with the team that he has (especially the team he had last season) he has to be on a short leash. He'll probably stick around one more season win or lose, but if he does it again next year, he'll probably get the axe. I wouldn't be surprised to see him fired this year, either. This is a results-driven league...there aren't very many Bill Cowhers out there (repeated success over a long period of time but no SB victory) because of it.

Keep in mind also that Tony's Tampa career ended after a playoff season...

Sure... and the Bucs went on to win with Dungy's team the next season and then have been miserable since. The Bucs would take Dungy back in a heartbeat.

There are some franchies who might not appreciate success... and fire a coach for winning everything but the Super Bowl.

I don't see the Colts being that kind of franchise.

The only thing I'll say is it will be really tough if the Colts lose at home two years in a row in the AFC Championship game. The games they lost in the postseason to the Patriots, those were in New England, so I guess you can give the Colts a a pass on those.

But a loss at home last year to the Steelers, and if they lose this weekend to New England at home again, that's really rough. I still don't think Dungy should be fired for it, but I think he might start feeling some heat, even though it would be unfair.

Although I doubt he gets the ax this year. I would not discount the possibility.

Dungy built one of the great defenses in Tampa Bay. Every year the team seemed to get stronger, yet lost one more game each season. They reached the playoffs 4 of the 6 seasons, but could never get to the Super Bowl. Ownership felt he just couldn't get them to the big dance and fired him. The following year, Gruden came in with most of the same talent and won it all!

Indy already had their offense and offensive coaching staff in place, just needed a defensive coach bring them up to snuff with the offense. Dungy seemed to be the perfect fit.

Due to many offensive players salaries, he has attempted to build the defense through the draft. In his 5 seasons in Indy he has used 2 of their 4 first round picks on defense, 5 second rounders, 5 third rounders and 4 fourth rounders.

The offense is still tops, yet the defense ranks at or near the bottom in many categories.

Yeah - I've always been of the opinion that the Bucs fired Dungy too soon, and that it was basically his team that won the SB the next year (and Dungy would have won if he was still the coach as well). However I was just using that as an example of the win-now mentality of the NFL these days.
