Griff
I also found this on wholehogsports.com: Like it is : Anderson’s NFL venture a slam-dunk effort Wally Hall Posted on Thursday, January 11, 2007 When Jamaal Anderson was a sophomore in high school, he grabbed a rebound with one hand, did a 180 in the air and slammed it home. After the game he was told he was going to be an outstanding basketball player some day if he continued to work. The comment did not come from legendary Parkview Coach Al Flanigan, but yours truly. Without missing a beat Anderson said, “I’m a football player.” In the last six years we have made that a regular routine. Anderson also ran track and did just about anything else he wanted to do in high school. If it hadn’t been for Marcus Monk, Anderson would have been the male athlete of the year after his senior season. Yet, the truth is, he had a passion for football, not basketball. Now that he has declared for the NFL Draft and it appears he will be a first-rounder, it can be told that during his first Razorbacks summer camp, just after his sophomore season of high school, he was just another tall receiver with a sore ankle. He wasn’t high on the Hogs ’ recruiting list, but after his junior year Charles Ripley made sure Anderson went back to camp, and that time his athleticism got everyone’s attention. He went to Arkansas as a wide receiver, but during twoa-days of his freshman season he was asked to help give some depth at defensive end. Like they say, the rest is history. Now there is talk that Monk may come out. If he does, like Anderson, it will not be without parental approval. Both of those young men are grounded in their family life. Glenn and Karen Anderson have rarely missed anything Jamaal has participated in, and the same goes for Monk’s mom Jackie. Tonight’s Little Rock Touchdown Club banquet is completely sold out. This is the third annual banquet and will honor Arkansas high school and college players as well as giving out SEC and national honors. Every year Darren McFadden has been one of the honorees, and he will be again tonight. Tonight’s star, though, may very well be Robert Johnson, whose parents are making the long drive from Waco, Texas. Johnson was unanimously selected as the first recipient of the Paul Eells Award. The LRTC had an empty seat at every luncheon this year to honor the voice of the Razorbacks, who died last summer in a car wreck. While his wife Vickie has kept a low profile since then, she is expected to be at the banquet, and she may have a whole stack of pictures to show off of her first grandchild. The two are separate organizations, but the Downtown Tip-Off Club will have a banquet in March and it too will have limited seating, with members getting first option to buy tickets. The guest speaker is scheduled to be Charles Barkley. Oh, and this Monday’s Tip-Off Club speaker is Arkansas native Charlie Spoonhour, former head coach at Saint Louis University and UNLV. Incidentally, it appeared the Razorbacks would lose only eight senior starters. With Anderson and Chris Houston set to go in the draft and if Monk decides to go, that would mean half of this season’s starters won’t play next year. With that in mind, the easy 2007 schedule becomes much more acceptable. It was interesting to hear ESPN say Arkansas offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn was a candidate for the Tulsa job. Malzahn, of course, isn’t saying anything. He’s too busy working on recruiting. Tulsa won’t take too long, but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t go with a guy who has had head coaching experience, such as Larry Coker, recently fired at Miami. Coker is an Oklahoma native, and if he took the job it would be until he retired, not until he could find a bigger job. If Malzahn were to somehow get the Tulsa job, look for Houston Nutt to hire Coker as his offensive coordinator. http://www.wholehogsports.com/adg/178456/

Morneblade
Is he one of those guys who is deceptively strong for his size? He looks a little smallish (not height was but his build)but the stats dont lie. I heard he took it to Joe Thomas. In a interview posted elsewhere here, he said that was one of the areas he had room for improvement. Here is the thing with this guy; he's only been playing defence for a couple years and he's a converted WR. He has alot to learn, and his body is still making the transition from WR to DE. And he'll fill out some naturally as well. The guy is 280 right now. Adding 10-15 pounds would be nothing, and he ran a 4.6 last year. I think he could in a couple years be close to 300 pounds and not loose his speed and quickness. And he still needs to learn the position. So, while he looks very good right now, his potential is higher than anyone else on defence we are looking at.
skins84
he came into college as a WR, he was 6 ft. 6 and 205 lbs. that's crazy that he gained 75 lbs in 3 years!

Griff
Here is something else I just found on him: Sacks Keep Coming For Super-Sized Anderson By Alex Abrams The Morning News/Razorback Central Posted Nov 13, 2006 FAYETTEVILLE -- The play happened by accident, and Arkansas defensive line coach Tracy Rocker wasn't too pleased with the final result -- even if it meant another sack for Jamaal Anderson. As the final seconds of the first half ticked away Saturday night, Anderson bolted past a Tennessee offensive lineman and found freshman quarterback Jonathan Crompton standing alone in the pocket. Anderson had a clean shot at Crompton, but the defensive end was so surprised that he had gotten to the quarterback that easily that he shoved the freshman with both hands instead of laying a big hit on him. "I didn't realize I was going to get to the quarterback that quick, and that was just my first reaction -- to push him on the ground," Anderson said. "Luckily, that was enough strength to get him on the ground." Anderson's third sack of the first half seemed to exemplify how things went for No. 5 Arkansas in the 31-14 win over previously No. 13-ranked Tennessee in Reynolds Razorback Stadium. It was impressive, a definite attention-grabber, and after getting the sack, Anderson stood up straight and shook his head in a defiant manner. "Man, that play there, it was awesome," Arkansas defensive tackle Keith Jackson Jr. said. "I love that play." Rocker didn't agree, however. He was mad that the 6-foot-6, 280-pound junior didn't lay a bone-crushing hit when he got the chance. "He wanted me to knock him out," Anderson said. That's perhaps the only complaint Arkansas' coaches had with the Little Rock native after watching him sack Crompton three times to make the freshman's first career start a nightmare. It was perhaps the most impressive game in what has been a breakout year for Anderson. Despite being slowed early on by a pulled hamstring suffered in late August, Anderson has put together one of the most dominant seasons by an Arkansas defensive linemen in school history. His three sacks Saturday gave him 10 on the season, six more than he had in his first two seasons combined. He's the Southeastern Conference's sack leader, and he's tied for sixth in the nation with an average of one sack per game. Anderson's 10 sacks ranks the fifth-most in Arkansas history, and he stands only four away from tying the school record set by Henry Ford in 1993 and tied by Steven Conley in 1995. "Playing in the trenches is not easy, but he's so tough and he's just been excelling," Arkansas coach Houston Nutt said of Anderson. "It's hard to block him one-on-one." At one time, Nutt thought Anderson could make a good wide receiver. But it was apparent early on that the man who broke Keith Jackson Sr.'s record for most receiving yards at Little Rock's Parkview High was better suited to play on the defensive line. Before Anderson arrived at Arkansas, someone told him that he was going to gain a significant amount of weight because his body looked like it could hold more. And to adjust to his move to defensive end, the junior has bulked up by adding 65 pounds to his 6-foot-6 frame. "Once I got here, I had to eat more, I had to lift more and the weight just came on with it," Anderson said. "I feel like it's held on to my body pretty good." Of course, Jackson Jr. can't help but make jokes about Anderson being super-sized. The defensive tackle refers to his teammate as a "giant" with "long legs (and a) big booty." "Two, three years ago, he was only 210 pounds. Now, he's 285 with speed," Jackson Jr. said. "It was just a matter of him adapting to the defensive end spot, and he's just getting better every game." http://arkansas.scout.com/2/590363.html

IONTOP
]']Who the hell is marcus monk? Marcus Monk is a great reciever from Arkansas, he had a good season with Arkansas this year except towards the end he seemed to drop more balls than expected. He is a tall possesion reciever that may fall into a good spot for us if we want one. All from my personal observation.
