Zen-like Todd
http://www.apple.com/iphone/ Watch all of the vids (there are 2-4 on each of the sections, for ipod, phone, web, etc). I think I'd sell a kidney for this thing.

jrockster21
I thought of a problem, albeit a minor one - you can't watch videos or listen to music on the plane, because you have to turn your phone off. Unless there is some way to disable the phone feature...:whoknows:

Zen-like Todd
I read the price will be 599... 499 and 599 depending on the version you buy. Of course, that's with a contract to Cingular. Then again, a Treo 750 costs $500 from Cingular, and it doesnt exactly stand up to the iPhone.

I'm oohing and awing... Apple kept a lid on this until AFTER Christmas????? I think that is pretty smart. I wonder how long it will take to have a similar product/service to be put out by a rival brand?
herrmag
I'd consider getting one if it wasn't for the Cingular exclusivity. What the hell is it with Apple and their proprietary mindset? Cingular sucks. I'd never switch to them.
Coooleeey
Cingular sucks. If it was Verizon I would think about it for a few milliseconds.
Zen-like Todd
Verizon sucks too. I have them right now. Their network coverage is fine, but they rip all of the decent functionality out of their phones and lock them down like a mofo in an attempt to squeeze money out of you. Verizon makes me very very very cranky.

What the hell is it with Apple and their proprietary mindset? Cingular sucks. I'd never switch to them. The iPhone is a GSM phone. The only two GSM carriers in the US are T-Mobile and Cingular, and T-Mobile has a crap network. 1) I'm sure you can take the SIM out of the iphone and put a T-Mobile SIM in. 2) I'm sure eventually the iPhone will be available in a CDMA/EVDO version for Verizon and Sprint, although it will be tough to get Verizon to take their grubby little paws of of the phone. Verizon hates anything with unrestricted access because it kills their revenue streams.

Verizon makes me very very very cranky. Yeah it gets pretty expensive for all the bells and whistles. OTOH I have tried AT&T and Nextel, Verizon smokes them. I have one friend with Cingular, one with T-mobile, and another with Sprint and the only one that comes close to being as good is Sprint. That was only b/c he had an older phone with analog service so we got signal in the boonies
ashburnskinsfan
It's a neat device but it doesn't do it for me. I rather a small phone/mp3 player when running, and a notebook PC. If I spent time on traveling on a bus or train maybe, but this has too many compromises.
Pedro
They go with one network because it is being marketed to a select group. An exclusive deal with one network means Apple get more money per unit and the network get the Appleites. It won't translate to a massive number of new subscribers for the network though. GibbsFactor
They are looking for 1% of the market share in 08. They partnered up with Cingular, Yahoo, Google for this venture. Plus Cingular helped develop the visual voicemail
Destino
Verizon sucks. I had them and switched to cingular. You can't beat rollover plus you get away from a company that tries to cheat you out of every cent and has some of the worst customer service on the planet (verizon). Also rollover minutes kick ass. You get what you pay for. My g/f has Cingular, and constantly asks if she can borrow my phone because she isn't getting service. I also love being able to talk on the metro. I pay slightly more because I get service no matter where I am. To me that's worth 10 bucks more a month.
