Guest Knightwchmn
Redskins have screwed themselves with Brunell, Archaleta, and Lloyd riding the pine, but earning "big dollars". No one will take these guys of their hands. With so much money on the bench, maybe "The Daniel" should replace it with "Lay-Z-Boy" recliners.:laugh::laugh::laugh::doh:
CM916
You left out Patten: one catch, 15yds early in the season and an OT drop at St. Louis when he finally got off IR. He still gets paid as though he were coming off a super bowl win with the Patriots. Thinking on that, I'm reminded of something I heard once about how the Patriots use players up, that if they cut you you're out of gas. Patten and Fauria are both testament to that. Other than that, this is one of those threads that keeps getting repeated 1,000 times over and I really don't know why Im adding to it. Someone will bite on a trade for Lloyd, Brunell will restructure or retire, and we'll see about Arch.

method man
That is a problem we really need to look at clearing up. If Brunell does not take a big paycut, then release him and sign Huard, who has 2 years of experience in Al's offense, to be Jason's backup. Patten needs to be replaced with Espy pronto. At least Espy can play special teams. If we do not trade Lloyd for another reason (we will probably be stuck with him), then give him another shot at the starting spot. Fauria has been outperformed by Yoder this season so he is gone. Also just cut Arch before he talks to Tom Friend again next season.
CaptChaos86
It really sucks we get so much crap about all the overpaid players on this team. On espn and other places all they talk about is how much money we spend on players. I just wish we could get a solid group of player and make them earn those big paychecks. I know absolutely nothing about salary caps and signing bonuses and all that but i know we are a laughing stock in the front office.

But Lloyd and Arch -- we actually need them to play well, but they're benched for personal reasons.

darkhorse472
The "win now" attitude will always come back to bite you. Bringing in high-priced free agents is fine as long as they don't replace the "true Redskins". A lot of times team chemistry is overlooked. The justification is that these are professional football players so they should learn how to play together as a team regardless of who lines up with one another. Hog-wash! Then why motivate NFL players ever?! When you don't reward those already on the team that have improved their individual play and the overall team play, it sends a message to the remaining team - we'll find someone else with more talent than you eventually. Why bother working hard? In fact, your replacement will make more than you and will be more than we were willing to pay you to stay. The other problem of bench-warming free agents...they have no trade value b/c it looks like they can't play. So you're stuck with dead weight salary-cap wise. Then, if you ask the "core Redskins" to restructure their contracts for these guys, again, what message is that sending?! Hey, because you guys are the loyal ones, we're going to change your deal that you signed to pay other guys more? If you look at the teams who win consistently, they go out and get 1-2 free agents and then stock up on draft picks. Why? Cheaper and younger talent that can be developed...truly developing a "core" group and team chemistry...and infusing with a little bit more "talent" with a proven vet. Everyone is still motivated to play for the team...the new guys are welcomed...the loyal players are paid...and the young guys are developed and not thrown into the fire but if they do need to play, they play for less! How many years are the Redskins going to go through overpaying? AA - $10M signing bonus B. Lloyd - 3rd & 4th round draft picks J. Campbell - cost of 3 picks T.J. Duckkett - a 3rd rounder for a YEAR?! Look if you know you have a set salary every year and you go and in the first month you blow it on filet mignon, caviar, lobster tail, and cherry flambe...you ain't eating at the end of the year! Overpaying does not work. The "win now" attitude does not work. And say it does work for one year, you get this roller coaster like this year. It's predictable! I love the Redskins. I'm critical because I want to see them succeed and succeed consistently for years! I want to watch them every Sunday and know that they have a hungry team with talent and depth. What bothered me SO much this year was the INSIGNIFICANCE of the Washington Redskins. No highlights. No buzz. No news. Just some pot-shots here and there. Just irrelevant, a non-factor. Excuse me, but that sucks!! Stop trying to do it a special way...let Vinnie bring you solid talent (he actually can do that you know...instead of kow-tow to every coaches wishes)...let the scouting department earn their salaries drafting good young talent...stop bringing in 3-5 FAs every year...go 0-2...reward the true core Redskins...but most of all stop overpaying in $$$ and draft picks in order to "win now". If your coaching staff is good, they should be able to win now with a team with decent talent, chemistry and work ethic.
