justin_totti10
This suck's. Only the age of 19 soon to be 20 and balding, Fast. It seems Everyweek my hairline keeps pushing back and recently after getting a haircut my wife noticed a "line" on the top of my head where you can tell the hair loss is starting. I need advice on how to prevent it or at least slow it down so by the time im 25 I'm not completly bald. Any one here done the hair restoration/transplant thing?? If so how bad will it hurt my pockets? I heard rogaine was no good any other suggestions??
No_Pressure
Okay look heres the facts...I got a friend who is about 22 and he is losing his hair pretty badly also, he did however know that by the time his dad was 22 he was 100% bald, like Terry Bradshaw bald. He used Rogaine and some crazy formula he looked up on the internet and has been applying it to his head for a long time. It hasnt stopped him from going bald, but it has slowed it down substantially. For some people they can fight it off for years with rogaine or home made remedies. My uncle, for example noticed my dad was balding around 30 or so and he started taking rogaine (my uncle was 23 when he started), he didnt start balding until he was about 40 or older, and he has kept more hair than my dad had when he was his age. If you are already losing a lot, you got a receding hair line, the patch on the back of your head maybe, and big thinning in the front chances are there is nothing you can do for you hair chemically that will stop it, and you wont slow it down nearly as much as if you had caught this early. You can still stop the loss a bit if you use one of those mixtures you can make yourself with distilled water, monoxidill, and some other stuff, but I would still expect that by the time you are 25 or 30 the battle may be lost. Dont try any of those pill things like propecia because they wont do anything and they will leave you with "sexual side effects". You basically have two options, the transplant surgery or shaving your head. The transplants are real expensive, basically for the price of a new sports car you can have some of your hair back. At age 19 I dont think you could possibly afford it by yourself unless your some kind of extremely wealthy 19 year old. You must also choose a good doctor to do the transplant...I would recommend not going to some place you see on TV like Bosley. They do an alright job with the majority of their transplants but then you see some of their jobs and the guy's head looks like a little girl's doll's hair. They are in a pattern and more closely resemble a grove of trees than a hair line. Also consider your age and how bald you may be later. Sometime you see a guy who has a nice amount of hair in the front of his head, then it dissappears in the back and he is bald. That person got it done too soon and didnt continue it as he continued to bald behind the transplanted hair. Sure you look normal if people only look at you head-on. Otherwise I personally think it looks dumber than being bald. Personally, my dad went bald, his dad went bald, and his dad went bald. My grandmother's dad went bald, my mom's dad went bald, his dad went bald, and my other grandmother's dad went bald. I dont think I have a single reletive who kept his hair which isnt an encouraging sign. It is basically an inevitability that one day I will lose my hair but it isnt something to stress out about a lot. Though I never liked the cue-ball look I think I would either shave my head or get it cut short. The last thing I would do is try a comb-over or worse, get a hairpiece. If I have money when I am older to get the transplant surgery I would definatly do it and get a good doctor for it. Some of my dad's friends had it done and it looks pretty damn good for them. If I went bald in 2-5 years however I wouldnt have anything to do about it becuase I wouldnt have money to get surgery. All I can say is dont worry, that will only make you lose your hair faster. Anyone that gives you crap about it is more than likely going to lose their hair anyways in the next 10-15 years so they have no room to talk. There is no way around it unfortunatly right now if you dont have lots of money to blow on having hair so I guess ya gotta bite the bullet so to speak and do what you can in terms of damage control and minimizing appearance. Dont take up wearing hats or anything like that. It will just draw more attention to the question of "hmm...why is he always wearing hats?" H-O-G
My advice, and what I will do as soon as I start balding..shave it. Plenty of men shave their head bald for the look of it. Unless you have a funny shaped head.
shagman
I would suggest just shaving your head. I know it sounds lame but after a little while you get use to it and it actually is less of a hassle. I honestly wouldnt spend the money on it until you are at least 30. The technology will advance by then and it will probably be a lot cheaper and look better. The Rock had some great advice for you though, he sounds like he knows his stuff. Just try not to let it bother you, and the best way to do that is get rid of it. You never know you might have the right scalp for it and it will look a lot better than it does now. If you do shave it though, make sure you use good razors. Otherwise your scalp will feel the effects.
Blighty Skins
Keep it really short. Massage the head every now and then. Try to do headstands, preferably combined with working out. It will help with the circulation going to the skull. This wont cure it, but will probably help retard the inevitable.
KingGibbs
Shave it bud. Some women hate it, some love it. Besides, there's nothing like having a woman rub both of your heads.

If I had a wife at 19 I'd imagine my hair would have started falling out too. Good luck with it bro. Fortunately I've been blessed with a full head of hair but with a wife and 2 kids and one on the way I imagine that if it doesn't start falling out soon I'll be pulling it out. capitolpunishment
PROPECIA!!!! :applause: It is the only thing that works besides a hair transplant. It was a 50mg drug used for men with prostate problems and they started to grow hair, so now it's a 10mg balding drug. Cost about $50.00 a month. If you can find a doctor friend to perscribe you the 50mg you will see a world of diffrence.

Bang
Screw that. My hair has been all but gone on top since i was 25. Never bothered me. My friends tried to give me a hard time about it til they figured out I really just couldn't care less. My hair is not who I am. People who tell you women think it's awful, dude, at the risk of sounding corny, if it matters that much to a woman, then forget it, she's not for you anyway. I never had any problem meeting women, my wife is beautiful. Just be who you are, and don't be who your hair is. You're no maore your hair than you are the shirt you're wearing. I know that sounds cliché, but it really is true. ~Bang

It is basically an inevitability that one day I will lose my hair but it isnt something to stress out about a lot. I'm in the same boat as you. There's not a single male in my family on either side who's kept all of their hair. My family has joked with me about the fact that I'm going to be bald one day since I was a little kid, so it's no surprise and I really don't worry about it. I have more hair at my age than my dad or any of his brothers had when they were 25 but my hair is thinning so I just keep it cut really short and I think it looks good. To the original poster, if you don't want to shave your head completely just keep it trimmed very short with a set of clippers and it won't look stupid. When you try and grow your hair out and pull off a comb-over and do stupid **** like that, is when it looks stupid. Here are some words of wisdom from my girlfriend: girls usually don't pay any mind to the fact that a guy is bald, but they always notice when a guy has a comb-over. I got a prescription for propecia but I never went through with it because of the side effects. I would rather go bald... You're just gonna have to shave your head or spend $3000 on a hair transplant...

Barney B
Lots of misinformation in this thread. Finasteride minoxidil http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hair_transplantation In my 20's, this stuff actually made a difference that other people noticed, (by removing DHT from the scalp) and it's cheap, with no side effects: http://www.vitaminworld.com/pages/addprod.asp?xs=499A47DA592C48D38CF9AFFCE47ACBCF&PID=21&btnaction=add Be warned though: any topically applied agent will have the effect of temporarily accelerating apparent hair loss, because the action of massaging the scalp will remove weak hairs. It usually takes several months, at least, to see if a product offers significant benefits.

My brother uses one of those distilled water/monoxidill/some other stuff mixtures and his hairline which was only very slightly receding has stopped moving entirely. He applies it to his scalp with an eye dropper then rubs it in. It is basically like a cheaper and just as, if not more effective version of rogaine. G.A.C.O.L.B.
Does stress actually cause baldness? I now genetics has a huge part and my grandfather and uncle on my mothers side went bald pretty early from what I know. There was a point where my hair was coming out bad, a few years ago, and I was stressing. It kinda gave me a receeding hairline. So anyway, I was worried it was going to all fall out but then it just kinda stopped and it's been the same for awhile now.
