As some said, Gibbs and Parcells could never co-exist. But I actually brought this up a couple of months ago...

http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180319

I thought this would be a good discussion topic.

Assume that Gibbs and Co. don't come back next year...Ok - that probably didn't take you long to get over

It seems that most folks would want the Danny to start over by hiring a strong GM who could handle football operations (i.e.) the hiring of the next coach/staff, running the draft, assembling a scouting department. It would essentially be the GM's team and Danny would sign checks.

What if that GM was...Bill Parcells?

We all know that at Parcells’s age, he is coaching year to year. We also know that even if he retires – he will stay involved in the game. Does that mean front office or does that mean TV? Who knows? We do know he likes to line up his next gig while he's still at his current one. Becoming a GM would allow him set the course for a franchise (ego-thing) while not quite being at the forefront. It's a way to still get a lot of the glory without having to work 80 hour weeks and deal with hours of questions about TO, who's starting at QB, if this is your last season coaching, etc.

He had full control in New York with the Jets and let’s (for the sake of argument) assume that to be the case in Dallas - TO aside. He managed to assemble a HOF staff for the Jets (Belicheck, Weis, Crennel, Mangini) and a pretty good one in Dallas considering Sean Payton’s and Gary Gibbs’s (D-coordinator) success in New Orleans. His drafts in NY were really solid: Farrior, Fabini, Ferguson, Randy Thomas, and the incredibly impressive draft of 2000 – Ellis, Abraham, Pennington, and Coles. In Dallas, he managed to rebuild the defense into a top 10 unit and perhaps found their QB of the future.

Now for the questions…would Parcells be interested?

I’m not sure whether working for Snyder is a “pro” or a “con” but let’s go with the common perception that it’s a con.

PROs:

$$$$ (top paid exec in the league and maybe even an ownership stake)

Somewhat close to home in New Jersey

High profile franchise

Huge revenue streams

Underachieving team but some good young talent

CONs:

Owner

No QB of the future

Defense might need a complete make over

Lack of draft picks in 2007

Up against it (cap)

Now would Snyder be interested?

It’s not like he’d be hiring the hated Tom Landry or Jimmy Johnson. While Parcells is technically a “Cowboy” – he’ll always be thought of more as a Giant and that hasn’t been the case in 15 years. Parcells has shown himself to have absolutely no loyalty to anyone so it’s not like he’d care what Jones thought. However, this would essentially end the Danny’s relationship with Gibbs – his childhood hero. Even if you believed that this was the best course for the franchise to take – if you were Snyder (and think about it hard) could you do Gibbs like that? Tough decision.

Joe Gibbs and Bill Parcells have rarely spoken when either is a coach, they finally spoke to each other after they both were out of coaching. When Joe came back Bill Parcells faxed Joe a note sayiing "I guess this means we will not be speaking again". Joe Gibbs never answered the note. I seriously doubt that Joe would want him as a GM.

I've posted this in ATN prior. Becoming a GM would be perfect for Parcells. He would not need to deal with the daily grind or players attitudes. He has had his fill with TO. It would allow him to come and go as he pleases, yet allow him to keep his hands in football.

He will not however come to Washington. If Dallas loses this weekend, don't be surprised to see him go to the Giants! They need a new GM and Parcells is a hero with their organization. Parcells loves the Northeast and just built a home in Saratoga.

The important question for everyone to answer is "could he help the skins organization win another championship." If the answer is yes then he should be here. More importantly, it is the most important question for Snyder, Gibbs, Saunders, and GW to answer. If they would all support it, for one, I would have no reservation with the decision.

Hahaha this would be the most amazing thing ever, I'm imagining the press conferences

Gibbs: "Our guys played their hearts out tonight"

Parcells: "But they really sucked. They embarrassed me personally. I've puked better games."

Gibbs: "We appreciate all the hard work they put in"

Parcells: "Maybe next week they'll decide to put some of that efforts towards practice, or listening. Awful. Awful."

You can just see the exasperation in Parcells face. He just isn't determined to make the cowboys a winner, particularly with TO. His future is wide open to speculation. Someone whould keep tabs on redskin 1 and see if it makes a trip into Dallas in the near future.

I don't think Parcells as a GM is even something to talk about. But when Gibbs leaves I wouldn't mind hiring him as the head coach.

Actually, before Gibbs came back in 2004, I was thinking the Redskins should hire Parcells as head coach. My hatred for all things Cowboys aside, I have nothing but respect for Parcells...I wonder if he will retire for good after this season...

I don't think Parcels will leave Dallas and if he does I doubt he'll want to come to Washington and work for his nemisis Joe Gibbs.
