Parcells as GM

Ed werder reports this AM that Parcells has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Dallas after this season specifically to take a GM job. He and Gibbs have a mutual respect for each other. I am interested to hear what others on this board would think.

If we hire a GM this year, what makes Donahue, Reese, or Casserly better options than Parcells if he wanted to be the GM of a team? This situation would presume that Parcells wasn't going to be involved in coaching and he and Gibbs and Snyder are in agreement about the specifics of the job prior to hiring him.

Besides Scott Pioli, who else would you all want as a GM, making personel decisions. Let me ask a more basic question. Why would Parcells put that clause in his contract if he weren't interested in a GM position? Coaching is more exhausting and maybe parcells wants to continue to stay connected to profesional football, but be out of coaching. I am not trying to say he is the absolute best option, but I feel he is a better option than most of the people who are available.

He would not be able to coexist with Gibbs.

That's what they said about him and JJ, remember? ;)

In all seriousness, you're probably right, and I don't think Parcells would want to be a GM anyway. I think his aspirations are to coach, only, to the extent he really wants to work anymore (which I think has been in doubt throughout his time in Dallas).

The general concept is a good one though: the Redskins need a GM who is both a strong enough figure to be assertive to Gibbs the coach and Gibbs the team president, and who is also from outside the organization.

If he only wanted to coach why would he specifically put that clause in his contract. A GM job has less pressure and is much more behind the scenes than a head coaching job. He is a wealth of information and if you look at the talent he has brought into Dallas since taking over there, he has made a lot of good decisions.

I second the statement of the gentleman from New York.

<<< Third, fourth, and fifth.

That'd be nuts, I'd lose a certain amount of respect for the team, and Coach Gibbs, if this were to take place. No way that tub o' lard steps foot into Redskins Park.
