Anyone know how much cap room we'll have?

Does anyone know around how much cap room we'll have to work with this upcoming year? With expected releases and such.

Whatever it takes! That's what cash does to the cap! We are about $280k over right now and our expected cuts will lower that to about $10M under. We have 3-4 players to restructure and presto; $25M under the cap w/o any problems. We could have more or less depending on what they want to do.

As the previous poster said they are slightly over the projected 07 cap with 45 players under contract. If they guarantee the roster bonuses due to Samuels Portis and Betts they can create enough space to sign a few more players to bring them to a full roster. As they always do they will make some cuts to create space and they may ask players to do simple restructures which turns 07 salary into signing bonus and creates more space. Some years they do this and some years they don't. Before the 06 season they guaranteed a ton of roster bonuses but didn't do any simple restructures until they needed to create space to extend Betts and asked Brunell and Thomas to turn salary into signing bonus.

With all the new revenue from the new CBA and teams being more cap conservative generally you have to be real careful about who you cut to create cap space and make sure you can do better on the open market. Last year they cut Harris at CB to save about 2M and ended up with Wright in the nickle which cost them out on the field. In the past you could expect many teams to cut players who can still play for cap reasons but only a few do that now so what you see on the FA lists that are out is pretty much what is available to sign.
