Skins4me
Looking back over the season and scratching my head and thinking what other reason then our players need to be cut, as many of you put it, could have caused our season to unfold the way it did. My theory is a simple one...the Fear Factor. When Dick Vermill returned to coaching no one believed that it was really possible for him to win a Superbowl, especially since he hadn't in the past, but when he did it got everyones attention, including Joe Gibbs. The fact that a Superbowl winning coach (Gibbs) returned put the fear factor into other coaches and players, especially after the Skins push into the playoffs last year. Other teams simply prepare and play harder against the Redskins because of Coach Gibbs. I will submit the same rule applies to Bill Parcells in Dallas...nobody wants to lose to him either simply because of what he stands for. There are many respected coaches in the NFL without a SB title, but lack the fear factor. Bill Belichick has created his own fear factor, but he is not a returning ghost from Superbowls past yet. Our players talk about how much they respect Coach Gibbs for his past, but I believe if they were the ones facing him on game day they would have a different attitude all togther. When the players truly believe they play for a legend, their fear factor will be disappointing their coach for not winning the game. When the players figure this out, which they will very soon, their greatest thrill will come from not just simply winning the SB, but winning it for their Coach. In Gibbs we trust! SGriffths
I would have to say that this is very well said and I couldn't agree more. Hail
