gate113
When the season started we all saw Andre struggle. Many posters already labeled him as yet another horrible Free Agent Signning. Yet if you look at what he did this season, especially the final 6 games, you can see he felt more comfortable with the defense and is coming back to his original form. I can only hope that he continues this next year and if he does he will be our featured End. Here are his Career stats. Darc Requiem
I'm guessing he means our number one pass rusher. If Carter plays 16 games next season like he did the last six of this season, he'll end up with 12 to 15 sacks easy. Not only that he was making a lot of tackles in the last six games as well. Grimm
He has all he physical tools to be a dominant player, if he continues to improve and the rest of the defense is sured up a bit, he should have a big year next season.

santana_4_prez
i really liked the way he finished the season...he was very disruptive to opposing offenses, now he just needs a little help from his teammates!!!

RDSKNfaithfull
He will be all we need as a pass rusher but even when he came on late in the year he was still a huge liability agianst the run. TE's would take him out of the play one on one.

TE's would take him out of the play one on one. He was only as good as the LB behind him. Holdman. Not only that, when he was getting all that pressure, he was covered with one man. Eventually, the Giants put another guy on him and pushed him out of the way. Holdman just couldn't make the tackle.
Lombardi's_kid_brother
I think he'll be a decent pass rusher. I still think he should just be a third down player though. He's gotten better at pursuing plays, but he is still a disaster when he's run at.

Shanko was buckling him one on one on run plays and when Posey replaced Holdman with the exception of one play it didn't make a difference. TLusby
If we can get a big man to help out Griffin in the middle and another young serviceable DE; he will start to dominate and get his sack #'s over 10 again.
MRMADD
He's a beast. Patience shall be rewarded.~Bang I consider him a very good pass rusher, but he's such a liability against the run that I'd hesitate to call him a "beast". He gets thrown around like a rag doll when the tackle attacks him. I think he'd be best used as a situational pass rusher, not an every down guy, to keep him fresh. He's a little undersized, and he has a history of back injury, so it might be wise to avoid letting monster-sized tackles tee off on him.

USS Redskins
The problem is - he did well when it didnt matter. When the season ended in Week 7 or 9 allot of guys played well, of course, they were out of the playoff race and the pressure was off. He is good - seems he gets an early sack and then gets a little pressure throughout the game but is quiet the rest of the time.

Replace "again" with "for the second time." It's not like he came in here with a stellar record. By having a very good December, he managed to reach his career averages. Dirk Diggler
I think he'll be a decent pass rusher.I still think he should just be a third down player though. He's gotten better at pursuing plays' date=' but he is still a disaster when he's run at.[/quote'] I think his "struggles" against the run are way overblown. He's not as hideous as everyone makes him out to be. Our scheme often has him taking lineman head on and tying things up for the cavalry to come make the play. Unfortunately, our cavalry didn't show up often enough. I think he could be a 10-12 sack guy in the cover-2 where he's slip wide and asked to disrupt things - ala Dwight Freeney. But I do agree that AC ideally would be the 3rd end on a very good line. Hopefully I get to see a very good line in Washington in my lifetime. Tom Sullivan
Andre Carter may never turn out to be a top-flight defensive end with the Redskins but that's not what we need him to be. We don't really need a top defensive end who can produce a great number of sacks so much as we need a defense, and especially a defensive line that can collectively produce more sacks as a group. Having someone with 12 sacks is great but it may actually be more efficient to divide the 12 additional sacks we need among several players. The goal should not be to get a star defensive lineman but rather to produce more sacks because sacks (and the pressure that results even when the quarterback avoids a sack because he has less time to throw) help take the opposing quarterback out of his rhythm. When I compared Andre Carter's 2006 season with Renaldo Wynn's 2005 season he made quite a difference-- 2005 - LE Renaldo Wynn: 30 tackles, 1 sack 2006 - LE Andre Carter: 56 tackles, 6 sacks This means that having Andre Carter on the defensive line creates about one additional sack every 3.125 games, as subtracting Carter's 2006 total from Wynn's 2005 total gives 5 additional and 16/5 is 3.125. That's quite a substantial upgrade over having Renaldo Wynn at left end, as it was quite rare for Wynn to get to the quarterback. I think one of the most efficient ways for us to upgrade would be to add players who would get additional sacks, as we only sacked opposing quarterbacks 19 times last season, meaning that every game on average we only had a very slight chance of getting more than one sack. This gave quarterbacks additional time in the pocket and meant that teams could both run and pass against us, giving them a greater variety of plays for them to rely on. If we can force a team to throw or force them to run a disproportionate amount of the time then we know what we have to focus on stopping.
Chump Bailey
I think his "struggles" against the run are way overblown. He's not as hideous as everyone makes him out to be. Our scheme often has him taking lineman head on and tying things up for the cavalry to come make the play. Unfortunately, our cavalry didn't show up often enough. He was absolutely hideous the first half of the season Dirk. The guy was getting shoved around like a rag doll. Our linebackers do suck, but the front four is the first line of defense. Any scheme involving Carter locking horns with a Tackle is a lose-lose situation. He needs to get better technique wise which he has alluded to in earlier interviews. He stated that he is thinking too much. He is a speed rusher and cannot afford to engage the Tackle - it's game, set, match - Tackle at that point. He does have the potential to become adept at stopping the run and rushing the passer. I believe that. Getting him some help on the line is also critical I think. CooleyKnight
Don't forget the times it looked as if he would easily get a sack but was blatingly held by an opposing O-Lineman or 2. Definately progressed and looked good by seasons end.

stwasm
I agree. Now, we need another pass-rushing end so that teams can't just focus on Carter, which opens things up for generating a better pash rush.
