Fury010
Why hasn't Dan Snyder tried to hire Mel as VP of Player Development/GM yet? He has friends at ESPN and could pay him more than Mel currently makes. BTW, Mel lives in Catonsville, MD, so Dan would not have to fire up the Jet to bring him in! Lombardi's_kid_brother
I've always thought that would be a fascinating experiment. Not with my team however. The Lions should really try it though.
rebornempowered
My guess is that there is a reason this hasn't already been tried.

SackMachine
I think Portis has done a pretty good job when given a chance at GM.
Bigredskin77
Amerik Watson should be the next Gm. Either him or Bobby Beatheard.
Troy Fakeman
And thus...it was written...in the book of Allah... Mel Kiper as GM of the Washington Redskins...

Troy Fakeman
I could see bringing him in as a consultant. We could name Mel "Bob"...and he can come here and ask our players... "What would you say it is...you do here?" Example: Bob (Mel Kiper) to Brandon Lloyd: "It looks like you have been missing a lot of work lately, Brandon" Brandon Lloyd in response: "I wouldn't say I've been 'missing it', Bob" ~ Office Space
twenty-eight
This is the guy that said Mike Williams was the best player in the draft hands down a few years ago. You still want him for our GM?? I don't know if he would be a great gm. He is great at what he does...and thats evaluating college talent and the draft...which means we dont have a need for him:D
jimster
I think he enjoys what he does in the sense that he gets to talk football for a couple of months with a lot of people. If he was with a team, he could only talk with a few people. Not to mention, right now he isn't really held accountable if he's wrong.
Big Weirdo
Mike Mayock is better than Mel Kiper.

stwasm
If he hired Mel Kiper as GM, I would take back every bad thing I ever said about Dan Snyder. From your mouth to God's ears! If we can't get him, how about Tom Donahoe?
Higgs44
Horrible idea.... The guy flip flops on all his evaluations. And through the course of an entire year, has pretty much everyone in the nation as a 1st round pick at one point. Ever wonder why whenever a guy gets picked, its a great pick???? I mean seriously... player X gets picked in the 5th round... Mel's response... thats a great pick, he'll fit in with this team, he brings so much to the table, etc, etc.. Its rarely ever a bad pick with Mel. To quote Ted Marchibroda... "Who's Mel Kiper????".

[[ghost]]
I'm not so sure about a GM, but as a scout, he'd give you great insight on the draft. Let him handle the draft. Him alone. Nobody else. That would be a helluva experiment.

Obibyn23
One things for sure, if Mel Kiper was ever our GM...we would never trade a draft pick. Unless of course it was to get MORE draft picks...
Chump Bailey
Mike Mayock is better than Mel Kiper. I was thinking the same. Mayock was the only guy I am aware of that was not all over Mike Williams's jock at the time.
TriangleSkinsFan
I am not a Merril Hodge(sp?) fan but he said before the draft that Mike williams would be a complete bust, that he wasn't 1st round receiver material, actually he and Mel Kiper argued about it on ESPN once

D-Fence
mel kiper is one of the biggest jokes on the planet earth, he is average at best at what he does now, on the list of three things that would make me stop being a skins fan, employing mel kiper in any form has been added as the fourth
