Paul Poslozny or whatever

I think our bigggest loss, people might not want to admit it, is antonio pierce, he was a leader in the linebacking core, calling out plays and flying all over the field. I was hoping Washington would take over as the ring general but even though he played well he never seemed to lead others and tell them where to go. He could turn into one who knows but right now, i think our linebacking corp is very poor outside of washington. Mcintosh could be good, it was his first season after all, but he doesnt look close to being a leader, which we need. Most leaders come from the middle linebacker spot and marshall was not it at all. He was terrible this season. Not only was he not a leader he looked like he didnt know what he was doing himself half of the time. he had 0 ints, 1.5 sacks, 0 forced fumbles and most of his tackles this season were passed the line of scrimage not behind it. Im not even going to get into how bad warrick holdman is.

So to recap: its washington = Good, Mcintosh= Ify could be good, too early to tell, the rest= Poo

One good linbacker does not make a a good linebacker core. You look at some of the best teams in the league, most of them have a great to really good linebacker core. Chicago, steelers ( last season), patriots, chargers, seattle. Look at all these teams, notice what they all have? A great middle linebacker. We need one back. Not just a good one a great one. We need our urlacher. I know hes an OLB but he is so fast and smart he could learn that position or we could move micintosh, either way he will make our unit alot better unit.

That being said i think this guy is it. This dude is an animal, hes all over the field, fast, and most important he leads his team. He had 3 straight seasons with 100+ tackles.

P.S: i agree the line needs work too, but i dont think there are as big of impact players on defense like this guy could be.

Also dont hate on him cause he was from penn state either.

A write-up about Poslozny, from Football's Future:

Paul Posluszny

OLB 6'2 238 Penn St.

By: Robert Davis

Paul Posluszny played well as a freshman, finishing the year with 36 tackles, 2.5 of them coming for a loss. That was nothing compared to what he has done the past two years. As a sophomore, he had 104 tackles, 12 for loss, and three sacks. He was even better as a junior, winning the Bednarik and Butkus awards after totaling 116 tackles, 11 for loss, and three sacks, along with an interception. As a senior, he shook off the rust he showed earlier in the year and finished with 108 tackles, seven for loss, and three sacks.

There isn’t anything on the field that Posluszny cannot do. He is a true linebacker through and through. He is tough as nails, and has excellent instincts. He quickly diagnoses the action and reacts and flies to the football, wherever the action flows. Posluszny isn’t afraid to stick his nose in amongst the lineman, but also has the physical ability and awareness to play in space and make plays.

The only worry with Posluszny is his knee. He injured his right knee in the Orange Bowl, though it did not require surgery. He’s apparently back at full strength, but still has questions to answer. Physically speaking, he is not lacking in any area, but Posluszny does not possess any standout physical gift either.

Hall of Fame linebacker, and former Penn St backer, Jack Ham gave Poz the title, “Best linebacker to ever play at Penn St.” That’s saying a lot. Had Posluszny not been hurt last year, he may have declared for the NFL Draft, and was a definite first round pick had he done so. He’s a first rounder this year as well, providing everything checks out fine with the knee.

Interesting tidbit about Poslozny here that I saw on Wikipedia- only two Penn State players have ever won both the Dick Butkus and the Chuck Bednarik Awards in the same year; besides Poslozny, it was none other than LaVar Arrington.

Another write-up concerning his strengths and weaknesses for the draft is here: nfldraftcountdown.com

Unfortunately, the biggest knock on Lemar Marshall is that he's too small to play middle linebacker, that he's an OLB playing MLB - and Posluszny is actually a tad smaller than Marshall (6'2 229 lbs versus 6'2 232 lbs)

I think you would be hard-pressed to find a Redskin fan who doesn't feel that it would be beneficial to have an upgrade in talent at the MLB spot. However, in the event that the Redskins do obtain a middle linebacker in the draft, it is unlikely that he would contribute anywhere other than special teams in the 2007 season anyway.

6'2 238 is not that small to be playing MLB. You gotta expect him to bulk up another 5 lbs or so, and the 240s range is great for a MLB. I kind of hope we can trade down, draft this guy, and then pick up the best available DE or DT with the 2nd rounder we recouperate.

Takes time to coach up a MLB....our biggest problem is that our MLB gets manhandled. a good size for a MLB in the NFL is 250 pounds you all.

Spend the draft pick on someone (or a position )who doesnt need a year a year or two of coaching

While I cannot dispute Pierce's role in the defense ; I really found it truly despicable of him to take pot shots at the very team - only team, to take a chance on him and allow him the opportunity to find and achieve such success. Yes: he put the work in but he should also be thankful and show a bit more respect to the organization who decided to take a chance on him when at the time he was an undrafted rookie.

This kid is the real deal!! Joe Pa told the media that he's the best LB he ever had at Linebacker U besides Shane Conlan. That's saying something. He also had this great year after knee surgery. I wouldn't want him drafted that high, he will be available later. That DE from Georgia would be nice.

Poz is a tackling machine.

He switched to mlb this year and picked it up extremely quick. You want to talk about a Gibb's type player. This kid wins the Butkus and Lombardi and then agrees to switch positions in his senior year to help the team without even a second thought. Not many of today's players would even consider it as it could jeopardize their draft status. I didn;t even mention that he was coming off the knee injury which limited his practice time at the new position. All he did was make 110 tackles.

I personally feel he is worthy at 6 but imagine If we had a front office. We could move from 6, gain picks, and land him later in first round. The chances of vinny pulling that off is zero.

Pozluzny is an absolute beast. Not only that he is a class act on and off the field. You won't find a better LB in the draft.

As much as I would love to pick him up, I think our needs on the D-Line (DT and another DE) are too serious to overlook :(.

If there is a way that we could draft all 3 though lol, I would be for that. If not, while it could be very advantageous, Marshall does fine if he is playing OLD, Washington is more suited for MLB and Rocky is fine where he is. Not the best, but certainly wouldn't be the worst.

This size argument is the most over-rated and stupid assumption, that because hes small he will get eaten up by blockers, its crap. Look at the two middle linebackers leading the NFL in tackles.

Zack Thomas and DeMeco ryans;

zack = 5-11, 228

Ryans = 6-2, 236

Both are considered under sized compared to others, but both are animals. Heart and smarts on the field and reaction skills are not measured in size. I think poz has all three.

Poz is 6.2 238 and reminds people alot of lofa tatupu. I think he would be the perfect fit too.

Guess what? He already have a small MLB, we don't need another small one. Poz played OLB for most of his career but made the swich for ILB.

I'm just as big of a fan of Penn State as I am the Skins, and even I have to say no to this one. Paul has done a great job and has been a great leader on and off the field, but just remember, he had knee surgery this past off season, and while he still good...you can tell that he has lost a few steps.

Get it right bro, he did not have surgery. I am a Penn State fan too and I like him a lot but the number 6 pick may be too much for him. I'd love to have him as a 'Skin
