fuji869
would our head coach be fired after this season? Since Coach Gibbs has returned to the Burgundy and Gold thing have not gone as well as expected. During his first tenure Coach Gibbs only had one losing season, 7-9 in 1988. During Gibbs II he has had a 6-10 and 5-11 season. Despite the magical 5-0 run to finish the 05 Season and a playoff win in Tampa Bay, if it was not Joe Gibbs Coaching the Redskins I think the Redskins Mr. Snyder would be making another coaching change after this season. Chachie
YES. If it were any other head coach, they'd have been fired.
[[ghost]]
Yea, pretty much. But who cares, its Gibbs, he quits when he wants to.
BDOG510
Yes. They would have been canned. Gibbs needs to go too.
China
Then it is good that it is Gibbs because the team has enough problems without constant turnover and instability at the head coaching position. If you change your head coach after every two or three seasons you'll never get anywhere because each new coach wants their own personnel; meaning player turnover as well. A little stability will do this franchise good.
jabronijames
I think this is just what we need. Dan Snyder put himself in such a position that it would be impossible to fire the head coach by hiring Joe Gibbs, the legendary hall of fame coach in D.C. You do not fire Joe Gibbs. He alone will be the decision maker on when he leaves. I personally think the blind loyalty to the coach is just what we needed in this football club. Let the man fulfill his contract and we'll see if we can't get another championship under our belts. HAIL!!!
Supreme Wu
Well there would at least be open discussion in the media, as opposed to "Joe, have YOU given any thought to not returning?" Everyone and their mother knows theres 0 chance of Gibbs getting ****canned.
fuffy
Not sure about Gibbs but if he wasn't here I am sure Mr. Williams rear end would be already on a flight back to Buffalo. The defense has been awful.
AJ_Skins
Aside from Cerrato, the guy who needs to be fired is the one guy who can't be. He's on his fifth coach in 7 years.
atloldskin
Obviously, we are very trusting with Gibbs as our head coach. Still, if it was not Gibbs, the coach got deep in the playoffs in his second year. We were "teed up" for a great 2006 but had injuries, no turnovers and broke in a rookie QB. I think the coach would get another year even if it was not Gibbs.
Fan035
No question - if it wasn't Gibbs, the coach would have been dismissed.
fuji869
We all found that out after the 2001 Season when Mr. Snyder fired Marty to bring in his Dream Coach.....
Drex
There is no question in my mind that if this were any other coach, he would have been axed.

BraveWarrior
In hindsight, I really wish Marty had been given another year. Spurrier being ready to come out of Florida was one of the worst things for us. Look at what Marty is doing in SD. Of course, a lot of that is the players they've acquired, and we need someone better than Cerrato to evaluate talent. But I really like the way Marty got us to rebound from an 0-5 start to go 8-8. I think if we had stayed the course with him and brought in some new faces to tweak the team on both sides of the ball, we'd have been a lot better off than the lousy 2 years with SS and the equally poor Gibbs mark II. skinpride1
You guys are forgetting there is a coach out there that has won a superbowl and has a poor losing record for the year like Gibbs.Do you know who it is?Gibbs played him last year in the wildcard game.I know things will be better next year for both teams!!!! MikeSellers45
When you look at it, I don't think the coach would have been fired if we didn't have Gibbs. In 2004, we went 6-10. The players are learning from an all new coaching staff again. they have to learn how to play again after being under Spurrier. In 2005, we went 10-6. We turned it around. Everyone had a year under there belts and we had continuity. Then in 2006, we went 5-11. We got a new offensive system so everyone has to adjust to that and there went our continuity. It was a learning stage, just like 2004 was. Had we not hired Saunders, we would have probably had a better offense and a better record. But now that we got Saunders, we are stuck with him. We need the continuity. This team will turn it around next year. But now that I think about it, the coach would have been fired because all Synder cares about is winning now. redskin81
The good news it that it is Gibbs so we dont have to worry about it.
NicholSkin
That's an extreme hypethetical. You can't separate the name Gibbs from the HOF credentionals. Would Parcells have been fired? I don't think so. Last year's run and the coach's historical success buy him another season. Please don't compare Joe Gibbs to Jim Mora, JR. Not in this lifetime. TSmithTheReal#36
Mora went 26-22 in 3 seasons and took his team to a NFC Championship game Green went 16-32 in 3 seasons with no Playoff Appearance Gibbs is 21-27 in 3 seasons with a Wild Card Win Gibbs would either be fired or on a really hot seat after this 5-11 year if this was his first go round. Guest Rafterman
He would be joining Green and Mora in the unemployment line.
