kylecoursey
Last night on PGL he said the Redskins are 1 million dollars over the cap right now with only 42 players under contract for next year .Does this mean serious cap hell or what? How do we expect to overpay more guys if were allready in major debt.I mean come on the national budget thinks we in trouble. ImmortalDragon
This offseason actually has the possibility of becoming "cap hell," but if theres anything these guys know how to do its take care of the cap. We'll be fine.

GIBBS LIVES
The Cap goes up 7 mil for next season. We are fine. As usual. The problem is that we don't have a real FO.
Craig
Once we cut AA (if we do), I think I heard he will count 9M in dead money against the cap. I hope I heard wrong...
Die Hard
Once we cut AA (if we do), I think I heard he will count 9M in dead money against the cap. I hope I heard wrong... You are right and wrong. He will count $1.7M against the 2007 cap and $7M against the 2008 cap. They'll cut him early... under the new rules that allows teams to cut 2 players under the June 1st rule.
deejaydana
Well, there's got to be a "day of reckoning" at some point for all this financial frivolity.
Die Hard
Keep in mind... there are a LOT of players whose salaries escalate to unreasonable numbers next season.... guys like Jansen, Samuels, Springs, Portis, Moss, Thomas, Daniels, etc. You're just going to see a lot of restructuring... and a few guys cut (Wynn, etc). The Skins could create $20M in cap room if they wanted.
superhulk33
Brian Mitchell is wrong, we are not, will not, be over the cap for 2007.
Die Hard
Well, there's got to be a "day of reckoning" at some point for all this financial frivolity. No, there doesn't. It's all in how it's managed. Depends on how the cap expert distributes the salaries in any given year... and the Redskins have been smart about it. Not that it takes a genius.... because only an idiot would be cautious not to overload any given year with inflated salaries. That's why the Redskins can get away with eating 1-2 huge cap hits every year. It would be nice though... to see the players live up to these large contracts they signed to begin with... so we don't have to deal with cap casualties. HapHaszard
Once we cut AA (if we do), I think I heard he will count 9M in dead money against the cap. I hope I heard wrong... I doubt we are going to cut Arch, according to news reports, GW, says he hopes Arch will be back next year. Now what "hopes" means is a rather vague statement, but if Arch doesn't show up he will have to return part of the money that he was given by the Redskins. From GW's statement it doesn't look like we will cut him.

SkinsFTW
I think the more telling comments made by B. Mitch last night was his adamant support of Betts over Portis regarding which one is best for our offense. He just doesn't like Portis. It probably says something about him and the fact that he was never they guy here but just a good return man.
Bang
    Salary cap. Seriously,, is anyone still afraid of that boogieman? Last year we were supposed to be SO bad off that we would have to go into the season with 25 rookies on the roster. We were supposed to be so far in the hole we may as well fold the team. And what do you know,, they went and signed everyone on their list. Just like every year. This year the doom and gloom begins the day the season ends... Just like every year. They are always full of reasoning and numbers and facts and figures to back up why the Redskins will collapse cap-wise... And the Redskins will go ahead and do whatever they want to do. Just like every year. By the way, lest anyone forget, Brian Mitchell is a POS Philadelphia Eagle that insulted the Redskins, the city, AND the fans when he left town... and every time he played us. Why any of you would listen to him is beyond me. The man deserves nothing in this town, least of all respect. ~Bang
TLusby
You guys need to learn some capology! First lesson: Cash can always kill the cap. The Redskins might not be loaded in depth but we as a team make more money than any sports franchise. I looked at the cap a few days ago and we are sitting better than we ever have been in 2-3 years. There are 4-5 cuts which will generate $7-8M in cap space and at least 5-8 scenarios for restructures that can add another $20M. All players will take a restructure since it takes future salaries and lowers them to near league minimums and guarantees the difference up front in bonuses. We will restructure what we need based on our FA acquisitions. I believe we need (1) stud CB, and another mid-level CB as well as a MLB, and another DE. Get the DT through the draft and add OL depth in the late rounds and possibly a TE.
tr1
I like threads like this. This premise has been floated every friggin' off season since the cap came into place. The Skins have more cash...so in essence, they have more cap. After re-structures, we'll probably have more room than we've had in a decade. tonyriggins
We will be under the cap, we are going to field a team. But if we dont ever fix our problems it doesnt matter anyway we wont be much of a team.

Now what "hopes" means is a rather vague statement, but if Arch doesn't show up he will have to return part of the money that he was given by the Redskins. From GW's statement it doesn't look like we will cut him. One thing I'm wondering is if Arch will want to stay here after the treatment he has had. Suddenly coaches stop talking to him one day and he is benched without a specific reason and without being told what he needed to work on to get back in. They still haven't talked to him. I wouldn't be surprised if he returned part of the money just so he could get out of here. Also, why does GW hope he will be back when he doesn't even talk to the guy and had him benched? Makes no sense.
tonyriggins
Anytime you can't cut certain players because of the cap hit, then you got major problems!
BuryYourDuke
I'm not a fan of our FO, but one thing they do well is work the cap when everyone says it's going to blow up in our face.
The Diehard
B Mitch is a big mouth and still pissed that we cut him and his eroding skills years ago. I prefer to listen to a guy like Ray Brown. A Czaben - another loser as well. I quit watching Comcast because of the stupid timing of his question to Brunell. Maybe someone should ask him if he'd be willing to step aside for me to take his place on the show since the show SUCKS now!!!!!!

Boss_Hogg
Brian Mitchell is wrong, we are not, will not, be over the cap for 2007. We are actually going to be 1.7 under the cap next year. With some restructuring and cuts, that number could look a lot nicer come time for the draft.
