2007 Free Agent List for the Redskins...

We're the only ****ing fans who get a hard-on over potential free agents in November. Pathetic.

Believe this: the Skins cannot improve by adding one or two big-name free agents. It's a proven ****ing fact. Think of this like a 12-step program for Snyderism addicts -- the first step is admitting you have a problem.

Step two: resign your own guys and add depth before chasing stars. That means locking up guys like Cooley and Taylor before you chase Freeney.

Ground Redskins One!

usually, good teams improve through the draft. Problem here, we have virtually NO draft picks.

So, signing ONE good FA wouldn't be a bad idea. It's obvious that our D has a lot of wholes, and there is no way we can address them all in the draft. We are going to have to go out and get one guy in FA, and then draft a stud in the draft for our defense to come together.

I just dont see this team improving by keeping the same people from this season...

I think our biggest problem this year has been a lack of a large physical linebacker that can stuff the run and rush the passer, giving o-line men a run for the money. Some examples of this are demarcus ware and shawn merriman. Adelius and Briggs I think bring that presence to our lb core and could help us out a great deal. Whether we will have the money to sign them or not is another matter.

Briggs for sure would be nice..

Briggs plays behind the most dominant line in football in Chi. I'd be warry of throwing money at a guy that is basically and unknown. He's got free agent bust written all over him. Think Trotter.

Freeney is nowhere near the kind of DE Williams would utilize. He'd have him playing containment half the time, and his sacks would drop bigtime - guaranteed. Throw in that he's a liability against the run, and he's exactly what we DON'T need.

Clements - maybe, but only if we move Springs to safety. Knows Williams system. Relatively young.

Samuels wouldn't be enough of an upgrade to warrant bringing him in IMO.

Thomas will want to stay in Baltimore. I think it would take a lot to pry him away, and they will make him a big offseason priority. Too old anyway - we need young talent here from now on. Same with Fletcher.

Overall we need to start building this team through the draft again. One or two FAs to suppliment the players we develope in house. The whole Antonio Pierce situation is exactly what is wrong with this current FO.

Freeney has done NOTHING this year. We practically have him in Andre Carter. The #'2 are similar, and their styles are similar too. Both of them are freaks of nature, both of them are built for the pass rush, and both of them have been disappointing this year. we dont need to spend more money on that. Lets sign a CB and draft a young DE.

EDIT: i just looked at the stats and Carter's having a btter year than Freeney.

Carter - 24 tackles 2 sacks

Freeney - 14 tackles 2 sacks

And yet the majority of fans around here are clammoring for us to sign him.

Speaks volumes about the ignorance of a large portion of our fanbase. He's the most recognizable name on the FA list, so everyone wants him. Forget about looking at his strengths/weaknesses, the system he'd be coming from versus Williams D, etc. It's basically a case of "he's a big name so let's get him....."

This crap gets old after a while.

Please put down the crack pipe immediately! We must do everything in our power to dissuade Mr. Snyder from his long held (mistaken) belief that you can build a team through the Free Agent market. All we do each off season is mortgage another few years of our franchise in a vain attempt to win instantly. Denver and other teams that deal with us must do everything in their power to control their laughter as we gift wrap future draft picks for players who don't pan out. At times I just can't believe Snyder was a business success before he bought MY REDSKINS!

While you're there, put down your own crack pipe.

YES, a team should build and develop through the draft and more considered moves but to say the team shouldn't rebuild at all through FA is lunacy.

The problem is not the acquisition of FAs but the acquistion of the WRONG FAs and overpaying for players who you could get cheaper alternatives that are of similar value on the field

just quoting two of the names that keep popping up, I'd say stay away from Freeney, an aging presence who will be overpaid, but I'd be all over guys like Lance Briggs and Adalius Thomas because they are young studs who can be the focal points on defense. Don't necessarily overpay for Nate Clemens when you might be able to get two solid DBs for the same money

FA isn't the root of the evil, it's our method of evaluating them that sucks

I hope they don't go after any big name guys that wont fit the system here and it appears that they can't evaluate players well enough to tell the difference so may as well go for the cheaper role player types.

Briggs might be a bust here, who knows. The Bears are an elite defense. Would he be that good without that pass rush, etc?
