More finger-pointing, please

One thing the players on this team stress as a "positive" is that there's no finger-pointing going on.

But guess what: that's probably part of the problem.

If people don't get called out, what's to fear?

There's a general lack of "fear" on this team, and that's what sticks out the most when comparing these Redskins to the Redskins that Gibbs coached in his first tenure.

During Gibbs' first reign, there was always fear: fear was used as a motivator. You were afraid of losing your job if you didn't perform, each week.

Now, with inflated salaries, there's really not the same degree of fear motivating these players. So fear has to come from somewhere else.

In this "feel-good-it-starts-with-coach" team, what's to be afraid of?

Without fear, there will never be success at any level.

So my message to Mr. Gibbs is this: More fear, please.

Be careful what you ask for. While I tend to agree about your statements involving fear for ones starting job the finger pointing idea only leads to a very dark road. :2cents:
I agree, I really think this might start to happen. I think things could get ugly if they start to lose a couple more games in a row.

And among the coaches themselves, there's too much "respect" and not enough accountability. You kiss Williams butt (and throw him too much money) to get him to stay on board, how are you gonna then turn around and say he's stinking the joint up? The same problem exists throughout the organization. Every coach is riding on past success and not holding himself--and other coaches--accountable.

This lack of accountability is the real problem, and that DOES start with Joe Gibbs.

Depends upon the circumstance.

Fear leads to performance.

Without fear, there's no performance in professional sports.

The main thing some players fear is getting injured, thereby impinging on their ability to have a blast in the offseason with all their money.

No need to point fingers, this team is sick and needs therapy. There are no leaders on this team, to get in guys faces or pick them up off the ground when they get down. This team lacks a serious pulse and until we find that unsung leader on this team we will continue to lose games that should not be loss. IE Bucs, Titans, Vikings. Those 3 wins right there and we are in a race for the playoffs.

No finger pointing needed. Everyone knows who is not up to task. What might be nice is to see those players step up, or sit down for a game to allow someone who might "want it more" get a shot.

I would be interested in seeing any rookies we have get a shot in a game or two, at least part of one.

I am willing to give up winning a few games to see who we should keep next year and who we should show the door.

Heck, we could use a #1 pick this season. Hopefully we would trade it away for several lower picks to try to get multiple players to evaluate.

Competitiveness is the driving force in sports, not fear.... have you never played a sport??

The offense never really has found a leader. Not yet. Well--Portis last year. But this year Ports has been marginallized by the new "system," and now of course he's gone.

Nevermind the fact that he has been playing beaten-up all-season, but I guess you can call that "marginalized" if you want.

Fear of failure (or public humiliation) can be a tremendous motivator for positive action. But it can also lead to excessive caution or just "freezing up." I think it depends on the individual and the circumstances. It's a button that a coach could push.

But about finger pointing...

That might work, but I can see it blowing up into a terrible mess much more easily than I can see it working.

Coaching real men seems like a damn complicated proposition.

"No finger pointing" was a phrase used by Marcus Washington but it was exhibited by Joe Gibbs, Jason Campbell and Philip Daniels this week.

Joe Gibbs points the finger by saying they need to "get back" to certain philosophies... Um.. hello coach, you cannot run the ball when your defense leaks like a collander... Jason Campbell called out the coaching staff and front office by saying that we can't change everything again this offseason.. (he's right but he pointed his finger) And Philip Daniels was DEFINITELY saying SOMETHING about somebody or a group when referring to "young guys" in his interview today...

I guess when Portis whined about not getting carries or certain running plays or saying that we need to throw deep more it was not "finger pointing" too?

NO finger pointing? There's plenty and more to come if players and coaches don't start working together to improve this.

I for one am not liking the divisive nature of our team... Defense and offense each have a very large ego at the helm and its starting to show. I thought Joe could keep everyone in check but its not the case...

(shakes head in disgust)

:peaceout:
