I just had a co-worker land in the hospital for a "ruptured colon." Apparently his colon blew and the contents ended up in his abdominal cavity. They had to re-route his intestine to his side and hook up a colostomy bag. He will have to wear this for 3 months until his colon heals, then they'll hook his plumbing back up. Maybe he just needed a good colon cleansing? I don't know, but it always makes my ****ty days seem not so ****ty. I just say "Well, at least my colon didn't rupture."

On Fox News every Sunday morning about 10:30, they have this doctor come on(Can't remember his name off the top of my head) to answer viewer medical questions, and someone asked about colon cleansing

Well, he basicly said that thwe whole concept is nothing mo9re than medical quakery and that it does nothing for you and if you do the kind that involves some type of enima(sp) or one of those tubes being used, you could damage something too

And on a final note, GI doctors don't give you the medications to cleanse your colon because its 'good' for you. They do it only so that they can see the lining of your colon with their endoscope during a colonoscopy or an EGD. Its just a practical concern - you can't find ulcers or polyps or other abnormalities if the colon wall (not to be gross) is covered with stool. So they clean you out beforehand.

I believe TC4 has it right though - theres no real research showing that 'colon cleansing' has any true medical benefits.

I just had a colonoscopy and an EDG and had to cleanse my system.

I had to use the fleets and another drink which I can not remember the name.

I read Candace's account and although I prefer not to go into such detail, the outcome was the same.

Ok.....maybe I should have left "colon" out of the subject....Basically I was reading about the liver and its role in metabolism and how it picks up the slack when the kidneys are dragging their feet. Apparently everyone over 30 or so has stones in there liver (per the info I've read).....What I saw was that you can do a liver flush to remove the stones but you have to prepare the colon first.....just wondering if anyone did it before.

  • 1 year later...

I was just watching some program about how when Elvis died, he had 60 pounds of fecal matter in his intestines all blocked up. John Wayne had 40 pounds of fecal matter in his intestines when they did his autopsy. This is some crazy stuff. No-one wants to talk about it, but this is a growing problem with the majority of our population. And supposedly, if you get your colon cleansed, it purifies the rest of your body, and can heal many diseases. Can anyone attest to this ?
