The Full Monty
I really was hoping that even if his hand heals let Portis rest the rest of the season - he's still got that nagging shoulder injury that enemy teams just love hitting - and those jerks love grabbing him by the helmet (Dallas, Philly) - let the poor guy heal up. MichaelM
I like the decision to put him on IR. He has been banged up all year and didn't look like the same Portis who carried the team late last year. I personally feel like Betts and Duckett will get the job done, but it all starts up front. Skins11
If someone is placed on IR, can they return if there is a postseason? (NOTE: In no way am I suggesting we are making the playoffs. It is just a question)
PeterMP
I think it's a good move. He's banged up. He's not healthy. Let's just let him rest and see what we have in T.J. Duckett. I could see Duckett moving past Betts as the #2 back.Suddenly, that move to acquire Duckett is looking better and better. Why? We are not going anywhere, and if you want Duckett, you could have gotten him for free at the end of the year. The Falcons were demoting him to #3 so it is not like they were going to lock him up. He broke a bone in his hand, not his foot  lord knows why you took this so literally. theres no reason to have him come back in all beat up. the end. HapHaszard
So far I have seen nothing in the news about IR, there is nothing on Redskins.com so I suspect we will have to wait and see if a formal statement is made. I also have not seen Andyman with the straight scoop either.

#1njskinsfan
talk about throwing in the season. this means even with a miracle 7-0 finish portis wouldnt be able to play in the playoffs. ThomasRoane
CP hasn't been CP ever since he jacked up his shoulder. He has taken himself a lot more this year than last year. Maybe this is Gibbs way of helping him rekindle his fire for the game. Plus, with our Defense struggling it's doubtful that we'll be able to make a push this year. So just play all the youngsters we got. I'm really excited about Duckett. He looks like a freakin beast up the middle. And could be the Redskin LJ for Saunders. You can never have enough good backs. So it's good to develop depth. Especially in a day when most backs are pretty much worn down and out in 4 years. This could prolong CP's career quite a bit. One thing when he comes back though. I hope Gibbs won't baby him (or anyone else for that matter). I'm tired of these guys taking themselves out of practice or plays. B-Mitch was dead on about that on Comcast. That's just not Gibbs I type football. I love the man but it's time for him to act more like a father than a grandfather. Get on these guys a bit! TODD
Very sad to hear this if true. A valiant effort, CP. No need to look at RBs, lets see who is worth keeping around next year. I'd also like to see Rock get some work.
skins4eva
I sincerely hope that's a joke. We've given away ENOUGH draft picks to last me a lifetime! yeah, i was being sarcastic

Jofizz
I think this is a good idea, though it really surprises me. Clinton has had injury after injury this year, and to leave him in there when this team is going nowhere would just be pointless. We have the necessary running backs to suit our offense in Duckett and Betts.

chiramu
Portis was great last year but has struggled with injuries and the Saunders system this year. His comment a few weeks back that he was questioning whether he was the right kind of back for this system was interesting. I hope he can use the rest to not only heal but also figure out a way to excel in this new system.
TD_washingtonredskins
Apparently Bram is reporting that Portis is going to have shoulder surgery as well. At least we learned something from Springs and we're having him do the surgery in November instead of August!
graffjd
Sad to see him go on IR if that is the case. The part I don't understand is the looking for another back. 1) We need to evaluate Duckett and Betts, use Sellars and Cartwright to fill in the odd carries 2) Who on earth of any value would be available? 3) Use the roster spot to evaluate another lineman, LB, or CB if you are looking to develop someone

Oldskool
Remember the days when Riggins would lay in traction all week and play on Sunday? Yup, but back in the day, they would shoot him up with things that would set off huge alarms on a random drug screen now.

ceviker
Please tell me this is not true. We don't need an extra roster space, for ****;'s sake! We have 3 VERY capable RB's! If one of them goes down, ok, maybe we decide. But if we beat tampa and the carolina, we're RIGHT in the middle of the playoff race! Please tell me this is not true... If it is true, this is Gibbs' way of saying "The Season is Officially Over"
ChiefBigMeat
Remember the days when Riggins would lay in traction all week and play on Sunday? Sadly those days are gone for good. With $millions at stake, a players first concern is his future earning power, with winning games way down the list. Sure, players made a good chunk of change in Riggo's days, but they could easily buy car dealerships or restaurants and do just about as well ... today is a whole different story. I'm proud of Portis for sticking in this long. To his credit, he's done more than a lot of players would, playing with a bad shoulder all season.
