To Mark Brunell: Thanks for the Memories (merged)

Stop dissing this guy.

Mark Brunell gave me, to this point, the greatest season I've ever experienced as a Redskins fan. From the amazing comeback in Dallas, to the squeakers against Seattle and Philly, to the crushing of Dallas and the run to the playoffs, those were some of the happiest sports moments in my life.

He is a classy player, a tough player, and while his body has let him down at this stage in his career, we owe him nothing but respect for what he's given us: everything he had.

God bless, Mark. Thanks for the memories.

Thanks, S0crates, for creating this thread. From the time Brunell got here, he's been the whipping boy. A lot of it through no fault of his own. He's a veteran guy who gave it his all out there, even when it wasn't always enough. He also performed with a lot of class.

To all the trolls, you probably kick puppies, don't you? It is sad when Philly fans show more class.

Well Mark, you are growing old like some of the rest of us who hate it.

You gave it your all and we appreciate that. You are a class act who has alot to give to the next generation. You have endured their insults and ungrateful attitudes of ignorance, like all older leaders have to tolerate from the angry, hate filled, ignorant masses.

Enjoy your next stage of life assignment of making others better human beings, and please stick around our team and DC, we need some better human beings in leadership here. I look forward to having you as our backup, maybe as a starter from time to time again, and seeing how you help mold the next generation. You are a winner, a positive contributor to society and our country, and we need you around here now more than ever.

Yeah, thanks for never taking the blame. Thanks for missing the deep receiver 90% of the time. Thanks for finding Ladell Betts in the flats when it's 3rd and 10. Thanks for leading this offense to an NFL record worst in a playoff game.

Yeah, we have a lot to be thankful for today.

He's done some good things, just not lately. "taking the blame" is just calling attention to yourself. Mark isn't that egotistical.

You're kidding right?

He'd be dead if this was Philly.

I love the type of person and leader Mark Brunell is. I'm glad he's going to be the #2 and wouldn't mind him being the #2 next year as well.

This would have been a good marriage if he wasn't so far along in his career. All in all, he helped get us back to the playoffs last year and he helped beat the Cowboys 3 out of the last 4 times. That's not too shabby.

The time has come to play the future at QB, but I will remember Mark fondly even if he was asked to play longer than he should have been!

Geesh.... I'm embarrassed to call some of you Brunell bashers fellow Redskin fans. Get some class. Brunell has enough to share with all of you and still have enough for himself.

This was a very good thread started for a very classy guy. As people have said.. there are plenty of threads to "hate" on him in that people don't have to choose to read.

He did a lot for this team, especially last year. There's a lot of good memories left for what he has done here. Why must people hate so much?

Do I think it was time for a change? Yes. I'm not blind.

But you don't take a class act like Brunell and treat him like the garbage some of you are treating him as. Grow up people. Please.

Mark will continue to be a part of this team.. he will mentor Jason Campbell, he will lend support on the sidelines, he will support during practice, because that is the player/person he is.

To those that are not bashing Brunell.. thank you. Obviously my rant is not intended towards you.

It has been quite an up and down past three seasons with Brunell at QB. Even though there have been some negatives, Brunell has given us some great memories as well.

His two spectacular throws to Santana in the seemingly miraculous Week 2 Dallas win last season....

His leadership during our six game win streak last season that not only gave this team its first playoff berth in quite awhile, but also got us a playoff win (ironically against the team he is getting benched for).....

His great performance in breaking the NFL record for most consecutive passes completed in one game vs. Houston in Week 3 this season.

No matter what people will say about Brunell, noone can criticize the class and character that Mark has brought to this organization. He could have so easily taken a shot at us Skins fans and media for all that has been written and said about him, but he always chose to stay poised and continue to do his thing.

Although its an end of an era in D.C., its the beginning of a brand new one (and hopefully one with a championship). :D

Thanks for the memories Mark, and Jason, this is now your team.....

Thanks for giving us so many great memories in 2005, Mark.

It's unfortunate that the coaches put you in the situation they did. I wish they had allowed you to finish your career with 2005's amazing playoff run, and let you be the backup to Campbell this season so you could help him learn the ropes in his first season as a starter.

Either way, good luck with the future and I hope you're able to embrace the #2 position.

Agreed. This is a great thread. Mark is a very classy guy, as well as a very nice one. Mark gave the Skins some great memories in his time as the starter. :logo:
