Wow. Well, I'll be the first to admit it, the picture I had in my head prior to this thread was WAAAAAAAAAY different of Beirut.

Good thread. Should open a few eyes. It did mine.

What I would like to know though is how much does starbucks charge for a moca frappacino in Beirut?

Don't worry, Starbucks is just as overly priced in Lebanon. By the way, almost every big American chain is in Lebanon. To name a few: McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, Popeyes, Hardees, Subway, Blimpies, TGIF, Chilis, Steak Escape and the list goes on...

Wow, great pictures. Did you take all of the scenery shots? Where in Lebanon are the first couple under the heading "Mountains" - those places look like they'd be worth visiting.

I didn't take all of these although I have a collection of thousands of pictures myself.

The first two shots are of a town called Bcharre in the mountains, the birthplace of famous Lebanese-American writer named Khalil Gibran, author of the book The Prophet.

But those views are literally everywhere.. the whole country is full of scenery and views like this...only country in the Middle East that doesn't have a desert.

So much for a plane ticket and a hotel room? You know.. so I can check out the beautiful scenery first hand :D

You might want to wait until the bombs stop dropping for a little. Hopefully after everything, the country will be built on a more solid foundation.

I just wanted to show you guys Lebanon from a different perspective. You consider all those evacuations, 10's of thousands of Americans, Brits, Australians, French... they were all on vacation there for a reason.

It seems things were going well for Lebanon economically, so militants had to stir them up a little bit to gain power... It really sucks... Economic development is THE way for terrorists to lose power, and they will do everything they can to sabotage and prevent economic development and well-being of their people...

…or the Lebanon you used to know.:( Seeing this makes me incredibly sad.

No one thought we could rebuild the first time after 15 years of civil war and 2 Israeli invasions but they were wrong. It took 10 years and thats what the country looked like.

This is just a snap shot of the country... so many more sites and scenes in Beirut and in the mountains.

Thats a damn good point. I must admit, when I heard about all those evacuees, I was asking myself why the heck were all those people in Lebonon in the first place. Now I know.

Heckuva thread.

Awesome pictures, it seems like a pretty interesting place to live. A lot of variety there too, especially for such a small place.

You're exactly right. Variety in every sense of the word. In April/May, you can ski in the morning and drive down to the coast in less than 2 hours and swim in Mediterranean. The highest elevation is about 10,000 feet above sea level.

By FAR one of the best night life scenes not only in the Middle East but in the world. I've met many European and American foreigners in Beirut/Lebanon who would agree. For instance, the picture of the club B018, that place doesn't start rocking until 2am and it goes until about 8 or so. Beautiful women, beautiful clubs/bars and a non-stop partying attitude.

It still is to an extent... Buildings, bridges, and villages can be rebuilt.

my friend was telling that they JUST got things right over there. he was working over there in 2000 or 2002 and there were still bullet hole filled buildings and remnants of past wars.

i know little about the etiology of their conflict with israel but given how beautiful the area is i can't help to think someone is just waiting for this all to be over so they can come in and make some money/business connections.

You're absolutely correct. Before this conflict, there were literally 10's of billions of dollars being invested, mostly for tourism related projects. Cranes still cover the skyline of Beirut.

Lebanon's economy in 1974, the last golden year before the civil war, was about equal to Israel's. For example, a taxi driver in the 70's drove a brand new mercedes and made enough money to send his kid's to college. Now, the same dude is driving the same car and struggling to make ends meet.

If there ever is REAL peace, then the country will boom and I mean that figuratively. We've had enough of the literal boom.

WOw. Opened my eyes big time. Beautiful city, beautiful women, and great pics. Perhaps if common sense emerges I will visit someday.

Glad you liked the pics... You're eyes would open much more when you see just how hot the girls are there. Nothing like you would imagine.
