I voted no. While I commend your efforts, I see it as bandaids on chainsaw wounds.

I believe the one vote that would turn this country towards getting lots of our problems solved is a vote for Political Independents, not just energy independence.

If this fall, in every State/County/Local election, every voter, voted Independent straight down the line, you'd see the Rebublican and Democratic parties scurrying around like roaches caught in the daylight. Unless and until the two parties are forced to actually work on our problems, they won't.

Unfortunately, this will never happen. Too many numbskulls on both sides that are more interested in their party instead of their country.

Yes. While I know the intial impact of the plan would be to raise the cost of driving, I don't mind paying for policies that would benefit future generations. As well as myself when I'm retired and living on a fixed income. I was always taught that you sacrifice now for future benefits. I haven't always followed that principle, but I do believe in it.

As the topic is energy indepedence, I'll vote yes.

The bigger problem is that American's are serious consumers and use up too much energy; our driving is just one of many problems. I mean, we sit in front of computers all day.... :paranoid:

Also the Hybrids are a waste once you figure the extra costs in manufacturing and disposing, maintaining them, therefore you are encouraging waste.

A tax credit for moving close to work or a high gas mileage vehicle tax credit would be more effective ,rather than hybrid imo .

Incentives to buy hybrids = motivation to advance electric technology. Yeah they aren't great now but pushing them moves us closer to where we want to be.

BTW - I voted no because 29mph is too low. Personally I'd say that any automaker that wants to sell cars here has to have at least one fully functional hydrogen or completely electric car in 12 years time. Screw gas, it's time to get rid of that crap.

And so, the effort to create a board by the posters, of the posters, and for the posters was crushed by the evil pseudo-fascist moderators.

Rumor has it that the rebel leader, honorary_hog went into seclusion to plan his guerrilla-thread counter offensive...

:D

dont blame TK just cause of what I said, I just thought it was a funny line

I'm not. Most of the moderators chimed in early with, "This is a great idea," etc. TK didn't respond as I recall. And he likes to **** with people in the tailgate (in a purely joking manner, of course, which I get).

I'm probably being punished for my participation in the early days of the AHFB. Like I said though, A counter-offensive is already in the works!

CHE, *****es! CHE!

(Who in the heck ever thought you'd hear ME say that!)

honestly I think who ever stuffed the ballot didnt do it enough. DjTj came out early in the thread and basically said you no voters better tell me why you dont think we are right so I can correct you instead of just leaving it to a quite vote. Your cabal of ballot box intimidators was worse than anything Vader dreamed up :silly:

So much for our little experiment in Democracy.

TK...just....*sigh*

I was actually going to suggest to you before that we make the polls the kind where you can see who voted for what. When you think about it, we're not really putting this up to like a poll of the country, it's more like the Tailgate is Congress itself, so people shouldn't be able to hide their votes.

I feel devoting the money to research would accomplish more, faster, than subsidizing inferior technology.

There are combustion engines capable of similar (or greater) mileage available now...subsidize them,if you must...

Which might help create demand for them...Which is the REAL problem>US ;)

Yeah, I know. I meant to do that and screwed it up. Oh well. My rebellion has only begun.....

I voted no.

1. I hate tariffs.

2. I hate government regulation of private industry.

3. I think this, like many of our current laws, is completely UnConstitutional.

4. If Ron Paul would vote against it, I would too.

Representative Paul votes nay. ;)

I don't find this agreeable because it looks like an all-too typical "aesthetic value only" legislation -- to be able to say, we passed an energy consevation bill ... but one that doesn't really get much done.

29 mpg? that scales to what? 50 mpg by 2050?

IMHO, the direction to go is alternative technology -- regulate automakers in a way to encourage this switch.

Right now, the U.S. is putting Mexican farmers out of business because we sell Mexico corn cheaper than they can make it themselves.

We are great at making plant biomass -- cheap!

Hemp and grasses could do as well, if not better.

Farm hydrogen with hydo and wind power ...

We need to get into position to be the world's biggest energy EXPORTER.

.... energy farming ... that's the ticket;)

Ax got it right. Everyone else might have given a good answer, but you're still wrong. Congrats Ax, you have the answer. I'll be doing my best to encourage this plan of action, but I still see it failin.g Let's hope I'm wrong.

Again...what I said in my original post. Ethanol is one way to go, but there are other much more promising technologies that we should be exploring.
