NFL Network...Good or Bad Programming

NFL Replay was great...yet they stopped showing it last year. I guess since they cannot rebroadcast games prior 96 or 97(whenever that TV contract was signed), they don't feel they have enough games? I don't know, I liked the show a lot.

I wish they could inexpensively gets rights to the old broadcasts, or the Redskins could release seasons. That is what I what the NFL needs on DVD, whole seasons, not 1/2 hour recaps.

when i am at my dad's house i always have it on the NFL Network...I usually enjoy watching anything. The cheerleader thing is kind of boring, but it never hurts to look at beautiful women! They do, however, show too many reruns of games and stuff that they have showed in the past 24 hours :-/.

I think it's about time they start to show the full replays of games. They did re air the Mexico City game a few months back. It would just be nice to see something different from "In their Own Words...Randy Moss", or the Game of the Week...Patriots win yet another Super Bowl". I watch a lot of ESPN Classic during football season because they usually run a lot of rebroadcast of the old college games from the late 80s and early 90s. I'm not saying that it would be a huge rating boost for NFL Net to show the games, but it would be nice to offer your viewers something new.

It's definately better to have the NFL Network than for it not to exist. My only real complaint is I don't want to see another S. Alexander clip for his TD record and I don't want to see the L. Johnson clip either...enough with those 2 clips already. ~ But, it's still an enjoyable channel but it's the offseason so what can they do? Once preseason starts...the channel will start to shine.

They need to show the Brunell-to-Moss highlights more on that one NFL Network ad they always run. Like 2005 Moment of the Year or whatever. All they show is the Saints beating the Panthers on Week 1 or the Chiefs last second win over the Raiders.

Yeah, I'm not inot the cheel leader stuff either.

I would prefer more shows where they take a week of the NFL during the season and break down the happenings...like say go to week 7 of the 1978 season and show the highlights for all the games.

Also, maybe go on vacation with some players and see how they spend their off season with the exception of working out.

I read an interresting article a few years back on the life of a practice squad player.

Well I for one like the Network with the exception of the constant repeats. The "In Your Own Words" series is really cool. You really get personal insight into the players and coaches. Totally Access is awesome especially TD and Rich. However, if I see another cheerleader series I am going to puke. I mean really. There is no difference between the Dolphins, Bucks and Charger cheerleaders. To me they all suck with fake boobs and too much makeup. With that said, I see no reason that they have to show these chicks constantly. There is definitely a man running the programming over there. There is much much more football stuff that could be seen, particularly old games and more investigative pieces. :2cents:

:applause: That's what I'm talking about

I estimate that a retrospective replay of just the playoff teams' 2005 games in their entirety (including playoff games and the SB) would generate about 190 to 200 hours of programing.

And as a Redskins fan, I know I could watch our '91 season over and over.

How about a site that I could pick a season and a game then download it via bitorrent or watch it as streaming video?

I know they are trying to play on the fact that us men like watching women barely dressed, but I have to agree with you on this one. Or if I have to watch the same ol' "In Thier Own Words" segment. Why in the world can't they pull out some old games from the 80's or even 90's??

Slightly off topic but not worthy of its own thread:

Does anyone know when the 2005 Redskin highlights come out on ESPN? They usually show them in the summertime I thought.

Also, as for this thread, I think they should have one station for old footage...just show old games all the time. Then a station for coverage where they only deal with breaking news and current NFL issues.

That way, you don't have to break in and interrupt coverage of old games or get off schedule when there's a press conference or something.

If you have had the channel from the begininng then you would have seen drastic improvements in the quality of the programming. It's a work in progress, but from where they started they really have come a long way. And as other people have pointed out...there is not a lick going on in the NFL right now so they need a little slack.

I can believe that. Didn't they have Warren Sapp and Michael Strahan hosting the flagship show in the begining?

I think they always begin those highlight packages from the previous season in August if I am not mistaken to pump everyone up for the upcoming season

I can't stand the Best Ofs, they show the same stupid **** each time. I know that Alexander broke the TD record, I know the bus was good in the snow, I know L Johnson was on track for a 2000 yard season...you don't have to show me over and over again. How about making a best of about how we came back in week two against dallas. Or any of the other close games. I wouldn't mind seeing a highlight of a close game b/t the brown and the texans...for the sake of all men show something different.

The programming is ok for the most part. I like watching the game of the week but here's an idea...STOP TELLING ME WHO F***ING WINS BEFORE YOU SHOW THE GAME! I don't remember who won each game or how it ended just show us how it did. IN your own words is a great segment as well as total access. The cheerleaders suck, most of them are ugly and too stupid to tie their own shoelaces...newsflash I have the internet I can look at hotter women in just a couple keystrokes, get this too...they're naked.

I watched nothing but the NFL network late winter and early spring. I had to turn it off, it just got boring. They did a great job of covering the draft and FA so I'm grateful but I'm not watching again until late August when there is actually something going on.

Sorry for the rant.

That was the reason that I opened this thread to get feedback as I have had satellite for only 10 months. I wish they would get the rights back from ESPN for the old highlight packages. I enjoyed the show "this week in the NFL". they were showing weekly highlights at 7 am on ESPN classic during the end of the season going back to the 60's and 70's show with Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshire. Classic stuff like that is what I'd like to see. Hard for me to beleive that the NFL has to get permission from ESPN to show their own footage.

"where the offseason never ends" isn't a very easy network mission to maintain

even Redskin Nation runs out of things to talk about in the offseason

how do you think Rich Eisen feels? having to fill an hour of talk every night in the offseason, interviewing boring player after boring player, same PC questions, same PC answers (Gibbs-esque responses)

not to mention the player hosts who, for the most part, add nothing

they should just replay old games, all day, all night, that'd be money

I don't have that channel, but I was out of town and watched it.

That week they showed the Skins 91' Season, that Superbowl, and the Game of the Week was the Skins/Eagles New Years Day game,so I thought it was pretty cool. There was alot of cheerleader stuff thou, plus they showed alot of shows over and over.

Does that station show alot of games during football season?

If it does I wouldn't mind getting it.

I would prefer that they show the broadcast games and not the crappy nfl films versions. The NBA for all its problems will at least let networks air old games. The NFL has it's own network and won't show any real broadcast games of the past?? I don't get it at all. I think that the NFL would make a killing by showing old NFC championships or old super bowls and not those ______nfl film versions of stuff
