Why is it laughable? I have an opinion that differs from yours. I don't think Fedor could handle Lesnar. You do. We disagree. Big deal.

You agree with everyone who says Fedor is p4p one of the best. I don't. That's okay.

It's laughable because it's wrong. It's not an opinion-based matter. It's like listing the top few NFL teams and leaving out the Pats or Steelers when there are records and stats to show otherwise.

*Edit: I mean the P4P thing not the Lesnar thing.

I think Fedor is by far the #1 pound for pound fighter out thier right now just on past accomplishments alone..

But i'm telling everybody right now Brock would beat him..

i 100% agree with this

Fedor is still top on my p4p because of his accomplishments

but if they were to fight each other soon, i think i would pick Brock to win.

What about the guy who got kicked square in the nuts? I've never seen a WWE move as realistic.

Looked realistic to me too but the guy "could have" been wearing a cup could he not?

 Yeah, seizing from a knockout sure screams "fake" to me.

 Are you for real?

First PRO wrestling match I ever watched one of the wrestlers used his thumb to squish out one of the others eyeballs. Looked pretty real to me at the time. Those that followed the sport at the time thought it was the real deal.

For the last time, I am not saying anything is rigged, scripted or pre-determind, just somewhat cynical that it "could be". For anyone to think that is impossible is naive IMO as history has shown from the beginning of boxing there were rigged fights.

Ewww...I'd love to think so. But even with a cup that would have to hurt.

I've watched plenty of wrestling, and the jump in realism that MMA has makes me believe it's actually real.

They really need to find a way to make that fight happen. I'd take Fedor but Brock would give him a fit....unless he got Zulu'd. :D

Okay, I'm just throwing this out there not to brag or anything like that at all, but just to put what you're saying into a little perspective: one of my fiance's and my very good friends fights in the UFC...just fought his first fight last card, has 3 more to go on his contract.

I can tell you that NOTHING about these fights is rigged or pre-determined. These guys are accomplished athletes in their respective fields; with our friend Ricky, he was a wrestler before turning to MMA. These guys are ALL going out there to win. No one is going to tell them what fight to win, what fight to not win. Period.

That being said, there are a lot of guys that perform antics in the octagon and outside of the octagon to create kind of a character or persona for the crowd to latch on to, because that certainly makes them more marketable. So yeah, there are guys that play to the crowd, Lesnar being the biggest character of all (by the way, my fiance has worked at wrestling camps with Lesnar and hung out around him at wrestler house parties in Minn. and said he's actually a really nice guy and this is all show).

I don't know, maybe that'll give you a little background to consider :whoknows: But these fights aren't fake at all. The only thing Ricky's ever told us is Dana picks the walkout songs for some of the guys (not the big name fighters though).

Good info thanks keeastman!

I am/was truly hoping this UFC is not a smarter/updated version of WWF/WWE. The former WWE guy made me think I was getting duped. Your comments are reassuring that it is a legit sport afterall.

I thought it was legit going in, but some of the actions and antics of the fighters made me re-think otherwise last night.

Me saying Machida, Silva and GSP should be the discussion for p4p best and not including Fedor doesn't have anything to do with iFedor's win/loss record/accomplishments. It's more an indictment of the weight class he fights in. I think the HW weight class is weak as a whole. I think those other guys have much tougher roads to plow and I think p4p they are better fighters. I'm still not seeing why it's so funny.

If you noticed, I didn't list any HW as a top p4p guy. I'm just not sold on the division.

I agree with all of that DOubles....hope you drank some Dogfish head stout last night.

:pint: You are right on the money. That and some Captain 100 proof. That **** gave me one of those smiles Bob has in the viagra commercials. After the fights we played some beer pong and I took shots instead of drinking that ****in piss water they were tinkling in the cups. Chicory stout and the 90 minute IPA has made me want to vomit at the sight of a banner for cheap beers. I even drink my coffee with just a little bit of cream and no sugar to mimic the taste of Sam Adams cream stout. I've got it down to a ****ing science. Did I mention I like beer?

anyone think that stoppage was a couple of punches late?

It was a little late, but it's hard to tell from the ref's point of view. Not nearly as bad as their last match when Lesnar had to pound on Mir's ass 5-6 times.

Well, it's definitely a legit sport. Whether people like or do not like the brutality of the sport and invalidate it as a sport because of that is another matter... My mom and dad think my siblings and I are crazy for "watching that crap," and my siblings and I think it's awesome  Then when I met my fiance who wrestles and fought several amateur MMA fights in college along with a lot of his other wrestling teammates, I got even more into it...and even got my dad to attend a couple of his last fights :D

So watch out, it may suck you in... :evilg:

I thought it was legit going in, but some of the actions and antics of the fighters made me re-think otherwise last night.

Well, I can certainly see if this was your first time watching the event, with Brock's antics last night, how you could have some questions about the validity of the sport, lol. It's not normally like that...ever. Lesnar was way over the top (which I thought was funny), and I know Dana White, the UFC pres., had some choice words for him after the fight

Here's a little write-up on yahoo about the fallout from the Lesnar's little show. http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news?slug=dw-lesnar071209&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

anyone think that stoppage as a couple of punches late?

Nah... :evilg:

In all seriousness though, I am actually okay with refs letting them go for a few extra punches to make sure. I prefer that over stoppage done too soon, or standing the fighters up when they think the fight is getting "Boring" on the ground when the fighters are actually working to improve their position.

But then again, I'm not a fighter and I'm not getting my face pounded in...

UFC is real at this time. But several US fighters admit that they were offered money by Pride to take dives. Then again, it was common knowledge that Pride was owned by the mafia.

UFC later acquired Pride.

And, if you know anything about who owns the UFC, it would be surprising if matches weren't fixed at some point in the near future.

When Fedor bulldozed the PRIDE heavyweight division it had legends in the primes of their careers. That wasn't that long ago. His accomplishments, along with the destruction of Arlovski and Sylvia's egos and careers, should at least put him in the discussion. He easily had a tougher road than Machida, he didn't hiccup like St. Pierre, and the Middleweight division WAS right there with the Heavyweight division as the weakest in the UFC. Yes, Anderson is amazing and makes great fighters look bad, but the middleweight division didn't present anything like Fedor had to go through.

And I'm a Machida fan, but he's been a champ for like 6 hours.

GSP vs Lesnar is the fight I want to see.

No Sylvia. No Kimbo. No five more bs fights.

Let's see GSP pull a RNC on him.

1. you can't be serious

*in case you are*

2. GSP is 185-190 w/o cutting weight, Lesnar is 265+lbs

3. Lesnar doesn't have much of a neck, i doubt he ever gets RNC'd

Matt Serra KO'd him, Lesnar may kill him with if he connects. GSP's biggest weapon is his takedowns. he aint taking Lesnar down

Okay, I think the people that normally post in this thread need to have a meeting that addresses how to save our pristine, high-quality (except for my posts), MMA discussion zone from turning in to a warm can of Milwaukee's Best. Seriously dude? Seriously? Brock could possibly dislocate GSP's shoulder with one grasp of the wrist. GSP would be giving up 100 pounds against a guy that would easily dominate his strongest weapon in his wrestling.

100% serious.

No one can bang with Lesnar. So it is going to take a faster, smaller machine who can get behind him and submit him.

GSP is that man.

Yes seriously.

And some of us have been watching, and close to the sport since UFC 1.

People thought Lindland vs. Fedor was going to be a huge mismatch too. Lindland gave up a ton of weight to Fedor.

If you were watching MMA back then. Continue with your "pristine" posts. lol

Well, who else could possibly beat him?

No big men. So you would have to go down in weight, and find someone who wouldn't be stupid enough to stand with him.

That takes out Anderson.

While GSP would certainly be an underdog.....if he could get Brock to stumble, or could get him down, he would be fast enough, and dangerous enough, to get on an ankle or other submission.

God knows GSP is 10x more talented at this time in terms of technique.

Dude, don't bring your drivel in to our thread. Especially since StillUnknown, yes the guy that essentially made you look like a spray paint can sniffing blind person during the basketball playoffs, knows his **** about this sport as well.

Fedor spanked Lindland. He cut Fedor with a grazing blow and the threat was there for a ref stoppage. Fedor knew this and shut the fight down within a minute or two.

But since you saw UFC 1 live, you must know what you're talking about. GSP can beat Lesnar. You're talking out your ass.

Allow Bobby Lashley to get a couple of more fights under his belt, and I'd like to see Lashley go up against Lesnar. Yes, I know Lashley isn't in UFC; however, I believe it's only a matter of time before he signs with UFC.

GSP could get him to tap, sure...

Problem is, he has to get him down and in a position to get him to tap. If you think for one second, even if Lesnar trips on sweat and falls face first into the canvas that St. Pierre would be able to get Brock into any kind of submission without Brock tearing one of his limbs off, you're insane.

GSP would have the same problem everyone else would have. He can't outmuscle him and Brock is too fast and is too good a wrestler.

GSP wouldn't stand a chance.

I obviously have a very unpopular opinion on Fedor as far as p4p fighter goes... But GSP beating Lesnar is a bit... uhm... out there.

Brain surgeon, why don't you tell everyone who could give Lesnar a great match then.

Take your time.

And Lindland was about the closest thing Fedor has had to a loss in a long, long time.
