Anything MMA, except thumb wrestling

WWE may not be real fighting, but it does have real injuries. If you tear your Achilles Tendon, its not fake. In fact the injury rate of wrestlers is pretty staggering. But that point is moot. No one thinks wwe is real fighting. I dont know why people keep bringing that up. Especially when we are talking about MMA, which is a completely different sport. There is nothing fake about getting your brain displaced like Bisping just did.

Where did all that blood come from? I know we are supposed to think the "warmup" bouts. Couldn't help but wonder if it was painted on?

every UFC card has an "unaired" undercard of fights. they are shown to the live crowd in attendance and get shown on the PPV if the main card bouts end quickly

i downloaded and watched the undercard fights this morning, they were bloody

I brought it up because most everyone I knew growing up who watched "pro" wrestling swore it was real. I knew better, but could not convince them otherwise.

I don't know anyone now who watches pro wrestling but know lots of folks who follow the UFC. Last night was the first time I ever sat through and watched an entire UFC event and it reminded me of pro wrestling.

I am not saying UFC is fake, I don't know. But I did wonder though because at times it seemed like pro wrestling with all the antics. Even in the one sig above. How do we know as viewers the guy was knocked out and not acting?

They show it close up and in slow motion. Actors that good have never existed. If you need more proof, just look at some trailers for the upcoming UFC movie. They're not good actors.

You sound like you don't even think boxing is real.

Alright guys thanks for the feedback. I got your message loud and clear you all think UFC is real fighting. And with a possible exception of one other poster you think the fights are not scripted or pre-determined.

That was my question and you folks answered it thanks. I'm still cynical about it all after watching last night, but hope you guys are right.:)

Brock is an *******. He had no right to flip of the crowd last night who was booing him. They weren't booing him over the victory, they were booing him because of the disrespect he shows his opponents.

You mark my words. Brock is going to be like Tyson. Somebody is gonna fight him one day who isn't old (Randy Couture), or injured (Frank Mir), and they are going to beat him badly. His career will be over after that.

I like fighters who fight with good sportsmanship. Brock isn't any of those things. And i'd be shocked if the UFC doesn't say something to him about flipping off the crowd. That was absolutley unneccesary.

I say do Frank Mir vs Lesnar for the rubber match. Did you see Mir's freaking leg last night? It had the hell bandaged out of it. Let him get completley healthy and do it again. The fight would be good for the sport, good for the money, and If Lesnar is the real deal, then let him prove it against a healthy opponent.

I myself personally think that Lesnar is a dumb oaf who only wins because of his size. He has shown no talent past throwing haymaker punches. He is accomplished as a wrestler and shows good wrestling ability, but that's it.

And he had to insult the logo on the mat last night too (Bud Light). Why be such an ******* to insult the fans, your opponent, and then talk **** about the sponser???

What about the guy who got kicked square in the nuts? I've never seen a WWE move as realistic.

I think his record speaks for itself as far as showing his talent. I also think that, just like in the WWE, fans will tune in to see a bad guy lose as much as they tune in to see a good guy win. The fans were booing him, so he gave them all the finger. What's wrong with that?

- How many animals were slaughtered in the octogon last night? Before the first fight that made it onto the PPV I noticed the ring was covered in blood. I think GSP even slipped in some.

Haha, that's what I said when the first televised fight started. I turned to my guy and was like "WTH happened on the undercard? They better show that crap!"

- Too much is made of Brock's size and not enough about his wrestling ability and quickness. Brock isn't the first large fighter. The interesting thing I see is that he's impossible to stuff on take down attempts and he's lightning fast in swinging his legs arounnd on the ground in avoiding sweeps and escape attempts. His biggest strength IMO however is his ability to get a lot of power behind his punches without a wind up or having to posture up. He can knock you out with short hooks on the ground.... very very very few fighters can do that.

Agreed. All this crap about making a different weight class for HW just because of Brock's size is ridiculous. People really need to watch some of the original UFC's and look at those size differences. Sure, MMA has completely evolved since then, but Brock is making the weight to be in the HW division (265), so I don't get what people are complaining about.

- GSP needs to stop fighting in his underwear. Seriously. Stop.

Noooooooooo! I love his fight attire... :cloud9:

- Bisping was overrated coming into this fight having never fought anyone of note. There is a massive talent gap in pretty much all fight sports. The champions are in a league all their own, below them is a small group of really good fighters, and below them are the rest. Bisping got into tier 2 and barely did more than run around before catching what everyone knew was coming. He will never be a champion.

Definitely agree with you there.

Henderson put a smile on my face with that KO. i was watching with a room full of people and everybody went stone silent when he went airborne for the last shot. the hang time he had on that last shot was very impressive

No kidding, that was the fight I really, really wanted. I wanted Bisping to get massacred. I was jumping up and screaming and running around making my fiance give me hi-fives. Lol. It was like the Skins scored a touchdown or something...and I got the same look from him last night as I do during football games when my family goes crazy, lol. He was happy about the outcome, but not going crazy like me :D

I am not up on UFC but figured why not. After watching it last night I can't help but think this is just as phony as WWE. A scripted entertainment farce along the lines of Jerry Springer. Anyone else get the same impression? I had hoped the fights would be legitimate (my son thinks they are). But after watching some of those antics I cannot help but think WWF/WWE.
 Yeah, seizing from a knockout sure screams "fake" to me.

wrestling is a talent in itself. in mma its arguably the most important because it allows you to dictate where the fight is fought. its not just his size though. in addition to being the biggest HW in the ufc, he's probably the fastest and most explosive as well.

he obviously showed some development in his skill since the first Mir fight. he took an accomplished BJJ black belt to the ground and controlled him for 2 rounds. in his first fight when he knew nothing, he got subbed. the fact that he was able to control Mir this fight shows a progression in his BJJ skill. BJJ is not just about submission, its also about position. sure lesnar's size helps, but Mir is a big HW himself.

thats the scary part about lesnar, right now he's beating people with wrestling and ground n pound, but he's dedicated to learning the rest of the disciplines as well

I myself want to see Brock Lesnar vs Kimbo. Dana White needs to make that fight. Slice is on The Ultimate Fighter this season, so its reasonable to expect that he gets a contract.

I dont look down on Kimbo for his loss against Petruzelli. Anybody who has fought knows that you can get caught at any time. Kimbo was knocking mf's before that. I think Lesnar wins easily if it goes to the ground, but I think he'd be a fool to stand and try and trade with Kimbo

I enjoyed Lesnar's antics. He just gave everyone the same amount of respect they had given him. Everyone talked so much **** about him and he owned Mir. People just don't like him because he was in WWE and refuse to appreciate his talent. He was in a weird place after the fight and was much more coherent on Espn after he calmed down.

And i'd be shocked if the UFC doesn't say something to him about flipping off the crowd. That was absolutley unneccesary.

White did pull Lesnar aside in his dressing room after the fight. Lesnar apologized at the post-fight press conference this morning.

Brock is an *******. He had no right to flip of the crowd last night who was booing him. They weren't booing him over the victory, they were booing him because of the disrespect he shows his opponents.

He explained his mentality regarding the Frank Mir fight, I could definitely see where he was coming from. Sure, he went overboard, but I thought it was freaking hilarious. My guy and I were crying because we were laughing so hard.

I say do Frank Mir vs Lesnar for the rubber match. Did you see Mir's freaking leg last night? It had the hell bandaged out of it. Let him get completley healthy and do it again.

Do you know why he had his leg bandaged? Mir is a submission specialist: bandaging his leg provides a source of friction for him to improve his position when working for submissions of Lesnar. That's exactly why he had his leg bandaged, not because of some horrible injury that put him at some disadvantage in this fight.

Kimbo will never get close to HW title shot in the UFC or any other credible organization

Kimbo is 1 dimensional and extremely limited at that one dimension

 That fight would last about 5 seconds. Max.

Not really. If Kimbo sucks it up on TUF, he doesn't "deserve" jack crap. Lots of guys on TUF don't get contracts with the UFC after their appearance on the show.

EDIT: And I'll be the first to say I think Kimbo will "suck it up" on TUF.

That's just laughable dude. Most people consider Fedor is the #1 P4P fighter in the world and maybe the best ever. There's no other fighter who's fought the best competition in the world and doesn't have a legitimate loss on his record. The Lesnar thing is debatable but IMO, Fedor would sub him or maybe even knock him out.

Why is it laughable? I have an opinion that differs from yours. I don't think Fedor could handle Lesnar. You do. We disagree. Big deal.

You agree with everyone who says Fedor is p4p one of the best. I don't. That's okay.

Besides a lucky knee bar, what has Mir done to deserve a 3rd fight? As MMA Live recap said, they've fought a total of 3 rounds in 2 fights and Mir has won a total of 8 seconds in those 3 rounds.

Nothing. The haters just want to see Mir get handled AGAIN. ANd when Lesnar beats him again, they'll make more excuses.

My son was up from VA Beach last night and wanted to watch the UFC fight. I am not up on UFC but figured why not. After watching it last night I can't help but think this is just as phony as WWE. A scripted entertainment farce along the lines of Jerry Springer. Anyone else get the same impression? I had hoped the fights would be legitimate (my son thinks they are).

Brock is an *******. He had no right to flip of the crowd last night who was booing him. They weren't booing him over the victory, they were booing him because of the disrespect he shows his opponents.

He flipped them off because of the constant disrespect they've shown him.

You mark my words. Brock is going to be like Tyson. Somebody is gonna fight him one day who isn't old (Randy Couture), or injured (Frank Mir), and they are going to beat him badly. His career will be over after that.

Mike Tyson strung together a pretty damned good career. Not sure what your point was here...

I like fighters who fight with good sportsmanship. Brock isn't any of those things. And i'd be shocked if the UFC doesn't say something to him about flipping off the crowd. That was absolutley unneccesary.

I would be shocked if they did say something. That alone is going to draw so many more fans to UFC it's incredible. Brock is going to bring people in to watch the sport. He's entertaining and an animal. Like him or hate him, people are going to watch his fights.

So why fight Mir again? The fight Mir won, Mir got the crap kicked out of him and Lesnar stood square in full posture offense and got knee barred. Lesnar did it to himself. Otherwise, Mir has gotten completely and utterly dismantled by Lesnar. If I was Mir I'd turn down a third fight. He loses one more time to Lesnar and he's WAYYY at the bottom of the heap again.

I myself personally think that Lesnar is a dumb oaf who only wins because of his size. He has shown no talent past throwing haymaker punches. He is accomplished as a wrestler and shows good wrestling ability, but that's it.

You say he has shown no talent and then say he shows good wrestling ability. Which is it?

And he had to insult the logo on the mat last night too (Bud Light). Why be such an ******* to insult the fans, your opponent, and then talk **** about the sponser???

Weren't the fans booing him? So weren't they insulting him? Wasn't Mir talking a whole crap load of trash prior to the fight? And why do you care about the sponsor?

Look, MMA is a beautiful artform the way some fighters do it, and other guys are complete barbarians. If you want class, go watch croquet. This is a violent sport. Hendo didn't need to do the flying elbow to Bisping, but he did. That was more classless than anything Lesnar did, but most people are only complaining about Brock because he used his middle fingers and talked trash about Bud Light.

Like someone else said, people concentrate too much on his WWE past and not his NCAA wrestling.
