Cory Hill passed away from a bout of pneumonia at age 36. Obviously he'll always be remembered for probably the worst injury ever in the UFC. Before Weidman/Anderson II, there was Hill/Hartt.

Was perplexing as to why the dude insisted on being a lightweight. Looked like a Holocaust victim in there, and it mighta had something to do with his leg breaking. Barely any muscle on it. His incident made me think Jon Jones would eventually break his leg, especially with all the damn kicking he does.

Nonetheless, that's a damn shame, RIP.

Sad to hear about Corey Hill. Thoughts & prayers go out to his family. Not good for anyone that the UFC announced his death before his family did-even if it was true. Family makes the announcement, not a former employer-bad move UFC PR department.

Watching the Faber Edgar card live this morning on TV (there also is a replay later tonight).

First fight I sit down to watch is Magny vs. Lim, pretty good first round. But the fight feed cut to commercial twice in the first round around the 2 minute mark.

Jon Anik just apologized for technical difficulties-hopefully they fix that for the replay later today since the fight changed direction during those 2 breaks. (Magny in trouble on fence before first break, after second Magny almost has Lim's back mounted).

Wow. Great fight. Won't spoil for those watching later tonight, but that is a fight worth watching. Ends in the second round. They really need to fix that for later tonight.

Munoz up next.

Munoz had a great 1st, decent 2nd, but he's fading. I just hope if he wins, he actually stays retired. This guy he's fighting is kind of bad.

Well Luke is bad on the ground-Muay Thai background. early on in the first I thought Munoz might be in trouble if Luke could keep it standing up and keep some distance, but he didn't. Mark got him down & does what he does. Nice way to end a fighting career.

I love the red headed red slapping Faber's hand off the fence! Looks like a 5 round war main event!

50-45 Edgar

Faber really had a ****ty gameplan for this fight. He seemed to be hunting for one shot the entire fight. You are not going to kill the unkillable with one shot.

A little disappointed in the overall fight. Feeling like Faber didn't hold his end of the bargain today.

I had it 50-45 Edgar. although the first 2 rounds were so razor thin they could have gone to either guy.

Sad fact is it seems like Faber fights to spar now.  I think he knows his career is pretty much over as an elite fighter so he is mostly looking to take fights he will get paid a lot of money for and just skate through doing enough not to hurt.

He took absolutely zero chances in this fight.  Even once down a few rounds he changed nothing about his approach.

I'd say it's easier said than done against Edgar. Not only is Frankie the #2 guy in the weightclass above Faber, but his skillset is perfect for nullifying Urijah's skillset. I thought Frankie would overwhelm him, tire him out and finish him. Closer fight than I expected. Urijah is a submission specialist and he wasn't going to get an opportunity against such a good wrestler who is bigger than him. He tried swarming on to Frankie's back one time, but slipped right off. That's Urijah's bread and butter, flash submissions.

Urijah looked spry, quick, and he's been in the game for ages now. Still looks like that WEC kid bouncing around the cage. His striking techniques have never translated to big power.

Frankie's footwork is second to Dom Cruz, and he goes with it all fight long. That's just insanely tough to deal with from the 4th rd forward.

I can see him taking McGregor down and punching him up good. Would be a close matchup on the feet. If Conor beats Jose, I think Frankie has a great chance to be champ again. Hell, he has a good chance against Jose.

True, but I don't blame Faber at all. Would rather see an old fighter coast @ the end of their career as oppose to going too long and taking a beating from a sharp young kid. A 10 year 20-30 MMA fight career is long enough, good guys can maybe go 15 years/ 50 fights if they are smart & take proper care of themselves.

If Aldo wins, I bet Faber will ask (& get) to fight McGregor. As long as Connor doesn't get absolutely destroyed by Aldo, a Faber McGregor non-title fight could headline a PPV if needed. It would probably sell more than Mighty Mouses last fight in Montreal (under 200k I think).

If Connor does win, I think he gets Frankie if they don't do a rematch with Aldo.

Now I just hope Weidman beats Belfort so Belfort's wife will STFU & let her husband retire in peace. I bet you she'll push for a Silva rematch in Brazil either way though. Belfort has been at this for 20 years. If he keeps this up, he might fight a guy born AFTER his Pro debut. Think about that for a second-ok for MLB or NBA, but for MMA-fighting the top ranked guys?

Replay is on again now-at least on the East Coast of Canada.

Magny fight still had the 2 cuts in the middle of 1st round. Magny is quickly becoming a new favourite of mine. Dude won 5 UFC fights in 2014, 2nd one this year- both PON bonus winners. 10 UFC fights since feb 2013, 8-2 on a 7 fight win streak.

He entered ranked 15 @ welterweight. After the win, asked to fight Rick Story-ranked 11. Magny's 10 fights-not a single guy ranked in top 15 currently, even the 2 losses.

170 is a bit deeper than 265 at least for Magny. Dude is also from Denver, so cardio should never be a problem. F-me, I think I just jinxed the guy.

Wtf there was fights this morning? Frankie is a great fighter but Mendes maybe a tad better. That's a match I want to see.

Would have started 7am California time. Manila= 12 hour difference East coast, 15 hour difference west coast. I think that's the same for Japan & maybe Australia & New Zeland. Gotta give Hunt his last fight in New Zeland (think he's got 3 left on contract).

Does anyone else agree this sport is kind of a bad idea ?]

Yep. I remember watching that video before somewhere, and was intrigued about strategy- do 2 guys stand close and make there way towards 2 opponents, then switch sides @ last second (think basketball pick& roll). Or does one team form a circle-backs facing in & defend the group?

Nope. Smash someone as soon as you can, then jump on the next closest opponent.

This can't last, the best fighter on a team would get sick of his teM every time they lost since he has to try & fight off up to 5 guys at once.

How freakin awesome would it be if the last man standing knocked out all 5 opponents by himself? Probably less likely than winning the lottery & getting struck by lighting in the same day.

But yeah, really stupid idea.

Saw that video (or something just like it) a few years ago. Yeah, trash. Once you start seeing 2 vs. 1 it gets cheap and ugly. Also, the Swedish team had a bunch of welterweights, the Polish were bigass sunofaguns.

Anyway, back to the real arts: Pretty stacked card this weekend.

PPV

Anthony Johnson vs. Daniel Cormier

Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort

Donald Cerrone vs. John Makdessi

Travis Browne vs. Andrei Arlovski

Joseph Benavidez vs. John Moraga

FS1

John Dodson vs Zach Makovsky

Dong Hyun Kim vs. Josh Burkman

Urijah Hall vs. Rafael Natal

Rose Namajunas vs. Nina Ansaroff

And three more fights on Fight Pass.

Vitor is definitely not as yolked as he has been. Maybe it's because I'm comparing him to what he's looked like when entering the cage (after warming up in the locker room). But if he doesn't get a sudden super pump before the fight, and looks more like he does walking around, it'll be pretty damning.

It's like damn Vitor, take some creatine buddy, lol.

I'm thinking Weidman takes him down and beats him up early, then finishes him in the second.

AJ vs. Cormier is a tough one for me. Mind says Cormier controls him for the majority of 5 rounds, gut says AJ knocks him out. Think I'll go with my gut, AJ just hits too hard and has so much momentum.

2 things we really haven't seen with the new Rumble, his gas tank & whether he can get off his back. Cormier will push both. Can't see Cormier giving Johnson the space he needs to be at his best striking range. Cormier will have to wade through some fire to get there though.

Not sure who I'm picking, but I'm leaning towards DC.
