I don't think Silva ever followed up his left hand with a single right hand in the 1st round, it was all just the slick dodging and left hand counter, and those left hand counters were enough to back Weidman up and have him retreating as round 1 was coming to a close.  If Silva goes out there with the attitude he had in the 2nd Sonnen fight, of "no more games, I just need to win this fight" I didn't see anything from Weidman that would make me think he will be able to do anything about it.

Well I'm in Vegas, came down just for Silva and that happened. I was pissed, but have moved on... a bit, not fully. Talk around here is Silva threw it, not a UFC fix but Silva decided to end it himself for whatever reason. right now, I'm about 60% thrown, 40% he actually got caught and KO'd for first time in his career.

Read an article, twitter reactions to fight & a russian guy (hockey player maybe?) summed up the fight perfectly with a simple question I'm sure most fight fans are wondering themeselves:

What if he tried?

I don't think it's a case of Silva not trying, but Silva has the tendency to let off his opponent when he thinks he has their mind f'd.

I already re-watched the fight once and I am convinced that Silva had plenty of opportunity to end the fight in the last :70-90 of the 1st round if he would have been aggressive and not looking to just throw a one punch "spectacular KO" type move.

Weidman was gassing a big, hands dropping, Silva was backing him up, but there was little aggression by Silva and he seemed to decide on his own to just let the fight go to the 2nd round.

If they eventually have a rematch and Silva has the mentality of "I'm going in there to destroy, get this over as quick as possible, and get out of here" I think he wins a rematch in a jiffy.

Since I was there & sitting on airport now, I haven't watched the replay, but the ones I saw, it didn't look like it was that hard of a shot, but then I saw some photos where it looked like Silva's eyes rolled back while standing.

One of the things that bugs me is that it almost seemed as if Silva was waiting for a decent punch to drop on. Weidman hadn't thrown a punch for a while until the last combination. then I read articles that point out how Weidman did the smart thing by throwing the right twice in a row since Silva was bobbing out of the way of punches one way, then moving the other way expecting the next punch to be from the opposite hand.

I'll wait until I see the replay to make up my mind, trying to take the positives out of it, it was pretty freaking cool to see Silva's Drunken Master live. I think Mike is right about the first round, Silva landed a little & then went into showboat a little early. Usually he waits until he gets a bit more comfortable before he starts showboating, I and most of the crowd thought it was only a matter of time before Silva finished him with something awesome.

I'm also with Dr.DoBig, in that I feel sorry for whoever Silva fights next, if he does at all. It doesn't even have to be Weidman, I think if Silva fights again, he's going to put on a striking clinic.

Also, for all the talk about how weak Silva's wrestling/grappling is.   He doesn't ever seem to take that much damage once he is on the ground.

Weidman did land a couple good shots on Silva on the ground but mostly the strikes were blocked or landing on arms/shoulders/body etc etc.....and then Silva was able to stuff the 2nd takedown without much difficulty.

Thats one benefit of keeping his hands down, it puts him in a better position to prevent takedowns.

That's why Chuck Liddell always kept his hands down. His striking wasn't that great but he could hit hard and his chin was great once upon a time.

Chuck Liddell and Anderson Silva need(ed) to keep their hands up. Squating lower in your stance is helpful enough. Chuck got knocked out clean 3 times and still looked like he was surfing in his stance. Anderson's hands were down because he was trying to show off as usual. That **** has been awesome to watch. From juking out Franklin, to matrixing Forrest, to going Ali on Okami. He doesn't do it to prevent the takedown, he does it to destroy confidence and show off.

You gotta wonder how shook he'll be after this. Have we seen the last of the hands-down display?

Weidman going through security at the Vegas airport:

Haha, that's great. I just don't want to hear any "Tim Sylvia stories" about some of the interesting places that he wears the UFC belt.

As a side note, for a chuckle, go to Google and type in "Tim Sylvia." Some of the suggested searches are amusing. I was going to take a screenshot, but it is NSFW.

You never know how Silva will or will not have been affected by this KO as far as his chin goes.

The fact that he is 38 and not 28 means there is always a chance he hits the "Fedor wall" and is just never the same again.

If he does indeed lose the rematch I can see him retiring then and there.

I just hope it doesn't spring an immediate criticism of Silva and UFC fans being as fickle as they are start up with the "he was overrated" nonsense that they heaped all over Fedor just because it was time for him to go.

That has already started on sherdog.  People have waited 7 years for this man to lose and the moment he finally did they all creamed there pants.  It's pretty sad that people just can't appreciate a talent for what it is...

Same thing in the comments on MMA Junkie. Many people jumped at the opportunity to say "I told you he was overrated." I am not the biggest Silva fan, but I just wanted to reply to every single one with "shut up." I don't read the comment section of many stories because, frankly, some people are idiots. I had to hit the back button on my browser yesterday before I said something profane to someone.

And the funny thing about it is it's not like he was Jake Shields who didn't lose for years but was incredibly boring.  Silva had some of the most amazing finishes in UFC history.

Nobody does revisionist history quite like a MMA fan.

It's no different than people who want to see Floyd lose.  I can't stand the guy, think he's a douche inside and out of the ring but the truth is he's an amazing talent.  I don't have to like the person behind the talent to appreciate it.

Finally back home, even though the Toronto Airport was flooded.  Wanted to wait until I got to a keyboard to type this.... (sent previous ones on my phone with shotty wifi reception)

You think a Silva fan who spent $2,000 to get & stay In Vegas, plus another $1500spent, would be pretty pissed off at Silva. After the fight, I was mad at Silva, Dana, the UFC, Las Vegas, the MGM Grand, I hated everything. So after the figth I go to drown my sorrows in beautiful women & alchol at the club Hakkasan, works a bit, but I'm still upset after I leave-especially since all the UFC 162 ads are still up all over the place between the club & my room.

Get up Sunday, and I hate Las Vegas, I mean hate it.  Original plan was to relax at pool all day sunday, I wnet down for a hour, took a dip, got in my seat to read a book, look up and see a UFC 162 poster which pisses me right off so I decide to go off the strip to the Pinball Hall of Fame.  I just did not want to see anything Vegas or strip realted.  PHOF did it's job for me, I forgot about how angry I was at the fight & everything, but in the cab back as I start to see the strip, the bad feelings come back.

So instead of eating at the MGM grand like I planned, I went up to the room to charge my phone & then go grab a cab to In N Out on Dean Martin.  As i get down in the elevator, there are 2 security for every elevator in the lobby, & they push me out to the sort of central fountain waiting area, but I'm still standing close to where they dont want me to be to try and figure out what is going on.  Then the elevator door opens and about 6 more security come out of the elevator around a group of people.

The tallest guy in that group, ANDERSON F******* SILVA (side note: dont think he was staying in MGM, on way back from club, I was on floor 20 & someone got out at 18, & i saw Ed Soares walking to elevator lobby on 18-thank god I only saw him for a split second, I would not have had kind words for him at that moment.  I think Andy went up to meet him then down for dinner).   I'm still kinda close to him as he makes his way out of elevator, I am the first non-security person he makes eye contact with.

After picking my jaw up off the floor, I stick my arms out, palms raised and say "anderson". I guess he could see the look on my face was more dissapointment than anger-f*** Im getting emotional just typing this again-he sticks his arm out through the cocoon of security and takes me under his shoulder.  At that moment, I was in about a code red level shock, was surprised I didnt have a heart attack.

We then start walking in the Casino, find out later he is heading to eat at Hakkasan.  We are now walking side by side in the cocoon of 300 lbs'ers (about 16 of them) and I say "Anderson, I came here jsut to see you." and he looks down at me without missing a beat and says "well, now you see me!" with a big grin.  I am completely disarmed, anythign bad I ws going to say to him-prob not much but what i would have said prob would ahve come across as complaing or ****ing.  He asked where Im from, if I had kids.  I told him, Toronto (close enough) and he said, "Ok. What i do for you, I come fight in Toronto." I thanked him for the offer, but said he didnt need to do that, there are more important things than fighting, 2 of them are behind you (his boys where with him, daughters & wife not there). He nodded in agreement, but could tell he was getting distracted, his group was talking to him in Portugues, and by now, a mob of people are surrounding the security team. I go to end the convo by saying, "well I can see your a busy & popular guy, so I'll let you be" and before I can finish saying that, some dick throws a water bottle at Silva and hits me in the shoulder.  Anderson asks If I am ok, I tell him hell ya, Im  undefeated against water bottles & he laughs.  I said thank you for turning what was a bad trip into an amazing one, thanked him for sharing his skills and for the entertainment and went to shook his hand AND bow (he is a bower)- he shook, but didnt notice the bow I did, and since I was stopped I almost got run over by the security-great dork move to end off a once in a lifetime moment.  Now Silva is pulling other friendly fans who are trying to get close to him, probably took in about 15 or so people after he talked to me before he got to Hakkasan.  For those who know dont know the MGM grand, you have to walk by the sports book to get to Hakkasan, and Soares yells something to Silva in Protugues as they get close, Silva looks up right at the sports book, cringes/grits his teeth and covers the side of his head with his hand as he walks by, in a cowardly comical fashion.

I followed close behind, still in a bit of awe of what just happened, and then I hear someone in the entourgae yell out "NO TIME FOR POSED PHOTOS." This is when I realize I dont have my phone on me, left it up in the room.  Was going to go back and get it, but I prob would have not made it back by the time they got to Hakkasan.

that moment made the trip for me, read my earlier posts, Im still not convinced Silva did NOT throw that fight, which would make any normal person who shelled out a months pay (before taxes) on a trip just to see him pretty upset.  Especially me, Im a pessimist, I'll tell you 3 things wrong with something before I mention what is right about it (part of the reason I am not in sales), and I was crushed after the fight, still kinda am, but meeting the living legend changed all that.  I dont know if I want to go to Vegas again, a nurse I met just before the trip wants to go down to see GSP Hendricks in Nov, might go, but had you asked me that from 10pm saturday to 4pm Sunday, I would have said no, I never want to see the God forsaken city again.  Amazing what one 185 lb Brazilian can do.

Thats why I am taking positives out of this, Im in such a good mood after meeting him.  Im a huge Silva fan, Weidman should have ruined my night, but now I look at is as I got to A) see Silva's drunken master, B) witness history C) MET ANDERSON SILVA.
