http://mmajunkie.com/news/19858/frank-mir-vs-antonio-rodrigo-nogueira-ii-headlines-ufc-119-in-indianapolis.mma

A rematch between heavyweights Frank Mir (13-5 MMA, 11-5 UFC) and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-6-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) headlines September's UFC 119 event.

UFC president Dana White today confirmed the fight with MMAFighting.com, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has confirmed the booking with a source close to one of the fighters.

An official announcement of the fight and event is expected as soon as this week.

UFC 119 takes place Sept. 25 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Nogueira vs. Mir II, of course, wasn't the first choice for the UFC 119 headliner. As MMAjunkie.com first reported, UFC officials planned to have UFC 116's main-event winner (champ Brock Lesnar and interim champ Shane Carwin) fight top contender Cain Velasquez at UFC 119. However, Lesnar, who earned a second-round submission win, and his wife are expecting the birth of a child in the next few weeks. Additionally, the booking would have required an abbreviated fight camp for the now-undisputed champ, who returned from a yearlong layoff (diverticulitis) for the fight.

Mir, of course, won the first meeting with Nogueira with an impressive second-round knockout at UFC 92 in December 2008. Only after the fight did we learn that Nogueira was slowed by staph-infection recovery and a knee injury. Still, Nogueira praised his opponent's performance and said he was surprised by Mir's noticeably improved striking skills.

Mir is just 1-2 since that big win, which marked Nogueira's first stoppage loss, with knockout losses to Lesnar and Carwin and a submission win over Cheick Kongo. The Carwin loss, which came at UFC 111 in March with an interim title on the line, marks his most recent outing.

Nogueira, meanwhile, also is coming off a loss. In February, he was stunned by a first-round knockout at the hands of Velasquez. The former PRIDE star set up the No. 1 contender's bout after earning a decision victory over Randy Couture this past August.

Supposedly Lil Nog is fighting at 119 too...guess who else is on the card:

http://www.mmafighting.com/2010/07/08/k-1-legend-mark-hunt-will-meet-newcomer-sean-mccorkle-at-ufc-119/

K-1 Legend Mark Hunt Will Meet Newcomer Sean McCorkle at UFC 119

A report surfaced today that the UFC has signed two new heavyweights to meet at UFC 119, and MMA Fighting has confirmed from a source close to the organization that Sean McCorkle and Pride and K-1 veteran Mark Hunt will fight in Indianapolis.

Though UFC 119 has not yet been officially announced, it is expected to take place at Conseco Fieldhouse, home of the NBA's Indiana Pacers, on Sept. 25. The Hunt-McCorkle bout is slated for the preliminary card, according to the source.

Share Hunt, a kickboxing legend whose brightest moment was winning the K-1 World Grand Prix in 2001, has lost his last five MMA fights. Those losses have come against some elite-level competition – submission losses to Josh Barnett and Fedor Emelianenko in Pride in 2006; a submission loss to Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem at Dream 5 in 2008; a knockout loss in just 18 seconds to Melvin Manhoef at K-1 and Dream's Dynamite 2008; and a submission loss to Gegard Mousasi at Dream 9 in May 2009.

Hunt did have a five-fight winning streak in Pride between 2004-06, including wins over Wanderlei Silva and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, both by split decision. Hunt joining the UFC would appear to open up the possibility for rematches with both fighters down the road.

The Indiana-based McCorkle is unbeaten and will make his major-promotion debut in front of his home fans. His wins have all come in Indianapolis, predominantly for the Legends of Fighting Championship promotion. And once again, he won't have to travel far. UFC 119 will be the promotion's debut in Indiana.

Other rumored bouts for UFC 119 include Sean Sherk vs. Evan Dunham, Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens and Indianapolis-based heavyweight Matt Mitrione vs. Joey Beltran.

why pluck mark hunt now? :ols:

can he even make 265?

Put him against a guy he can beat, show him off.

Show highlights of "basically a kickboxer almost submitting the former P4P king in PRIDE"

Dana will reel off the typical "this guy is a huge test and has a great chin" type of deal. Melvin Manwho? Hunt has decent strength behind his name, no matter how much he's deteriorated.

He's a stepping stone, good signing.

Mir vs Nog II is the single most unnecessary rematch in the history of MMA. Rematches are for fights that were close or controversial. I don't care what anyone says about Nog's staph infections or whatever. To make Nog fight Mir again is cruel. Some guys have some guys' numbers and the first fight was all I needed to see. What's next after that? Cain Velasquez again?

Let's see Nog vs Cro Cop... or Mir vs Cro Cop... or Nog vs. Arlovski... or Mir vs Arlovski.. or an old guy battle royal!

Really? how about the interview when he knocked the door off the hinges after re-watching his loss to Mir? How about his little gay-ass lasso thing he did right after he beat Herring? So no, it's not nonsense just because you claim it is.

Not to mention slandering a huge UFC sponsor and flipping off an audience. He's a big douche bag but the man brings PPVers in droves and keeps the sport interesting at the HW level. I hate him but I like having him in the UFC.

I think the only threat right now to Anderson Silva at 185 is Vitor Belfort, and that is if and only if Vitor Belfort has his head on straight and is motivated. If that fight finally happens, and Silva wins, he needs to just vacate the belt and move up to 205 permanently. Let someone else take over at 185 and then maybe in a couple of years when someone else at 185 is built up, he can go back down and challenge the champ.

Disagree. The staph was a huge factor. Can't wait to see this one. I do like all your other matchups though.

That is the plan. Dana said as much a few months ago. I don't think Belfort has a chance personally. I'd move Anderson right after he kicks the crap out of Sonnen.

Speakling of Dana, my brother met him and Lidell in Vegas last week. Some Dana was awesome. Talked to him for awhile.

Looks like Lil Nog is fighting Ryan Bader. That should be good. 205 is deep.

I'll be busy watching the grass grow that night.

With the UFC opening new markets in Australia, China, and eveywhere else they can, expect these kind of cards more and more often. Its free. I like it. One day we'll be getting weekly shows. Can't have stars on all of them.

Condit-Hadry is a great matchup.

I'd understand the strength of this card if was inserted in between a bunch of shows within a tight schedule...but that isn't the case. It being free doesn't take away from the fact that it's the only show between September and November. We're basically getting a Fight Night card to get us through a 2 month downtime.

Fine if it's just a card thrown in between a bunch of other events. Wouldn't be surprised if they slide a Fight Night card in there somewhere.

http://mmajunkie.com/news/19877/injury-forces-urijah-faber-out-of-wec-50-replacement-opponent-will-not-be-secured.mma

Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber's bantamweight debut will have to wait, as an injury has forced "The California Kid" out of WEC 50.

Faber (23-4 MMA, 8-3 WEC) announced his withdrawal from the card on his Twitter account.

Faber was scheduled to face Takeya Mizugaki (13-4-2 MMA, 2-2 WEC) at the event, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the promotion that a replacement opponent will not be sought for the Japanese product.

Featuring a bantamweight title bout between current champ Dominick Cruz and top contender Joseph Benavidez, "WEC 50: Cruz vs. Benavidez" takes place Aug. 18 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The main card airs live on Versus.

It's currently unknown which bout will be promoted to the evening's main card to replace the previously scheduled co-feature.

Faber, who was scheduled to fight for the first time as a 135-pounder, stated on his Twitter account that the injury happened on Monday.

Faber, who reigned as the WEC's 145-pound champ and emerged as the organization's biggest star during a 13-fight win streak from 2005 to 2008, since has gone 2-3 in his past five fights. He lost his belt to Mike Brown at WEC 36, dropped a rematch at WEC 41, and after getting another shot at the belt, suffered a decision loss to now-champ Jose Aldo at WEC 48 in April.

Mixed in with the losses were submissions wins over Jens Pulver and Raphael Assuncao.

Faber has yet to announce a timetable for his return.

I noticed Cro Cop was throwing a lot of crescent kicks in his fight against Barry. It's interesting to watch the evolution of MMA and how some traditional martial arts methods make their way in and out of the sport. Machida looked to be bringing in a lot of karate counters and sweeps until Shogun went all out on him.

I knew Tim Kennedy deserved an upgrade in opponents but Jacare might be too big of a step. I'm still pretty interested in this fight though.

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Jacare-Kennedy-to-Vie-for-Vacant-Strikeforce-Crown-25579

Jacare, Kennedy to Vie for Vacant Strikeforce Crown

Five-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will lock horns with Tim Kennedy for the vacant Strikeforce middleweight crown at Strikeforce “Houston” on Aug. 21 at the Toyota Center in Houston. The promotion on Friday made the matchup official, putting to bed talk of a middleweight tournament.

Jacare will ride a two-fight winning streak into the match. One of the sport’s most decorated ground fighters, the 30-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt has secured 10 of his 12 career wins by submission. Victories against Jason “Mayhem” Miller and 2000 Olympic silver medalist Matt Lindland highlight his resume. A finalist in the 2008 Dream middleweight grand prix, Souza has lost only once -- to former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi -- in the past seven years.

A United States Army Special Forces sniper, Kennedy has rattled off four consecutive victories. Based in Fort Bragg, N.C., the 30-year-old submitted Trevor Prangley with a first-round rear-naked choke at Strikeforce “Los Angeles” in June. Kennedy owns other notable wins against UFC veteran Dante Rivera, former International Fight League middleweight champion Ryan McGivern and one-time Bodog Fight welterweight titleholder Nick Thompson. He has never been submitted.

A light heavyweight title bout between unbeaten champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante will headline Strikeforce “Houston,” which will air live on Showtime. In addition, one-time EliteXC lightweight titleholder K.J. Noons will square off Jorge Gurgel, and former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Bobby Lashley will return to the cage for the first time since January. No opponent for Lashley has been named.

Well a lot of Karate strikes are based on one-strike put outs. So unless you are thinking you are going to KO someone with a single shot every time, you better learn to fuse it with other disciplines.

I am interested to see a 'Shad vs. Machida rematch since it seems Rashad has remembered that he is a wrestler again. Would like to see if the fight goes different with Rashad trying to shoot in for a takedown, rather then dance around like apollo creed and look for a big KO.

Who else is hyped for DREAM tonight? I love watching Japanese MMA promotions, just because it feels different. Completely different style in every aspect, especially the crowds. Not saying it is better or worse, just different. Makes me wish the days of PRIDE!

Dana White confirms Lesnar/Velasquez at UFC 121.

"The rumored card for UFC 121 now includes:

Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez

Anderson Silva/Chael Sonnen vs. Vitor Belfort

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson vs. Lyoto Machida

Sam Stout vs. Paul Taylor"

I know he only confirmed the Lesnar fight and I have no clue where they got that rumored card from, but if that holds up...that may have a chance to challenge the UFC PPV buys record.
