Island Boy
http://www.wavy.com/Global/story.asp?S=4995836 A Newport News sixth grader is accused of bringing a loaded .380 caliber handgun to Huntington Middle School. Around 1:30 Tuesday, two students notified the principal that the student had brought the gun to school. The 12-year-old had been suspended and taken home for an unrelated incident prior to the principal being notified of the gun. The school's resource officer and a security officer found the gun lying on the ground near a building, just off of school property. The student is charged with possession of a firearm on school property. It is unclear why the student had the gun. An investigation is underway to determine if the gun was stolen. This case is an excellent example of students doing the right thing by reporting the incident to school administration so the proper action could be taken, and of school administration taking the proper action.
