It could actually be an opprtunity for them to start fresh.

Obviously, the McMahon death storyline has to be scrapped. I can't even tell you what else is going on in the WWE at this point. So, they can handle this the best way they see fit, then move on from there.

Yeah I was thinking the exact same thing. To hell with the storylines, just put on a good show and start the storylines back again once your writers have come up with something worth a damn. I'm sure something good can come from this tragedy other than the fact that he killed himself.

It certainly adds a lot of support to the case against steroids and how they can destroy someones life, especially if toxicology reports show that he had it in his body

Something is just not right....

Why not just go to the Pay per view? What made him stay home? What allowed things to get to the point it is now? I know we dont know his personal life but in the ring and out of the ring Chris was not that type of person. Too just snap like that?

Guess we will never now.

We have to stop pretending that we know who any celebrity or athlete or public figure is.

Two days ago, I would have said that Benoit was one of the good guys in the business.

Now, I know that his wife once filed for a protection from abuse...that he once had a DUI...that he was apparently on steroids...that he capable of murdering his own child....that he was capable of murdering his wife.

Just remember this the next time somone in the public eye screws up and everyone around him or her tells you "This is just not like them."

Report: Benoit deaths were murder-suicide

http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/6960688?MSNHPHCP&GT1=10136

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Authorities also said they are investigating whether steroids may have been a factor in the deaths of Benoit, his wife and their 7-year-old son. Steroid abuse has been linked to depression, paranoia, and aggressive behavior or angry outbursts known as "roid rage."

"We don't know yet. That's one of the things we'll be looking at," said Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard. He said test results may not be back for weeks.

Autopsies were scheduled Tuesday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities were investigating the deaths at a secluded Fayette County home as a murder-suicide and were not seeking any suspects. The official who described the manner of death spoke on the condition of anonymity because the information was to be released at a news conference later Tuesday.

Investigators believe Benoit (pronounced ben-WAH) killed his wife, 43-year-old Nancy, and son Daniel during the weekend and then himself Monday. The bodies were found Monday afternoon in three separate rooms of the house, off a gravel road about two miles from the Whitewater Country Club.

Nancy Benoit filed for a divorce in May 2003, saying their three-year union was irrevocably broken and alleging "cruel treatment." But she later dropped the complaint, as well as a request for a restraining order in which she charged that Benoit had threatened her and had broken furniture in their home.

In the divorce filing, she said Benoit made more than $500,000 a year as a professional wrestler and asked for permanent custody of Daniel and child support. In his response, Benoit sought joint custody.

Fayette County Coroner C.J. Mowell did not return calls seeking comment. The answering service for his funeral home said he was out of town.

Asked about the condition of the interior of the house, sheriff's Sgt. Keith Whiteside said investigators found "nothing really out of the ordinary." He said Benoit was found in the home's weight room, his wife in an office and the son in an upstairs bedroom.

Neighbors said the Benoits led a low-key lifestyle.

"We would see Chris walking in his yard from time to time. He wasn't rude, but he wasn't really outwardly warm," said Alaina Jones, who lives across the street.

Jimmy Baswell, who was Benoit's driver for more than five years, placed a white wreath at the Benoits' gate. "They always seemed like they were the happiest people," he said.

World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that it asked authorities to check on Benoit and his family after being alerted by friends who received "several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning."

I'm not sold on the "roid rage" theory.

From what I know about roid rage (and I will admit, I'm no expert), it's not about premeditated murder.

If they came out today & said that Nancy & Daniel had serious "head trauma", then the roid rage theory would make sense. He snapped, and because he's a big man, the woman & child didn't have a chance.

He couldn't deal with their accidental deaths, so he killed himself.

That's not what happened here. He tied her up for gods sake. Then after he killed her, he slept on it for a night before killing the son.

Is there a link between steriods & going crazy? Is mental illness a side effect?

Did they find depression medication? I'm interested in knowing what other drugs are there (other than pain killers, cause that's a lock)

I agree, but also, just because someone does or does not have legal issues doesn't necessarily make them a good or bad person. We have NO idea what any athletes are like in their personal life. Same goes with politicians, actors, etc. We might have some info from an insider, but we never tryly know anything about their relationships or inner thoughts. Benoit might have looked normal and respectable to the public, but he may have been a very sick and demented individual on the inside. Theres no way to know. Unfortunately, he decided to take 2 people with him

Or maybe it was sterorids. From pwtorch.com:

Dr. Steven Garner was interviewed. He said roid rage can cause such incidents. He said there are very few documented cases, but there are strange stories related to steroids. He said, "There people develop psychosis and that's a total break with reality. They don't know what they're doing. They halucinate. They don't know what they're doing. They hear voices in their heads telling them to kill people." He explained that once a user get off steroids, his testicles cannot return to producing testosterone at a normal level and depression can result - leading to suicide with teenagers. A former homicide investigator was interviewed next. He said he has been on scenes where he's seen people trip out due to steroids. "They get this unbearable strength and they seem to lose their mind," he said. "If they drink alcohol at the same time, it adds to it. It's taken about six or seven officers at scenes I've been at to hold a guy down who was flipping out from roid rage." Smith said: "Think about this guy. This guy's sitting in his hosue with a dead wife, then he's got a dead kid, then he's dropping Bibles all over the place. Then he's killing himself. You can't even process that." The doctor said steroids mixed with other prescription drugs make it much worse. They went on to note that "60 wrestlers" have died under the age of 45.

If he was suffering from depression and on 'roids and growth hormone mixed with any of the numerous other "legal prescriptions" found in the home he very well could have went phsychotic and that's why what happened did.

I swore i read a spolier that had him winning the ECW strap on Sunday.

Years of steroid abuse, drug abuse, and head poundings I'm sure played a large part in this, I wouldn't be surprised if his brain showed signs of dementia when this is all said and done and that his toxicology report shows steroids, anti-depressants and pain killers. None of this excuses any of this and he's a piece of **** but it may help us understand what happened in "his" head.

Not to mention placing the bibles on the side of his wife and son.

Thats what I was trying to figure out. I guess it is a kind of roid rage.

If this is linked to steroids, the media will have a field day with this.....

This is all just horrible.........But question I have is what was the kid doin when or after his mother (nancy) died? Did benoit tie him up and torture him? Did daniel witness her death? what did Chris tell him what happened to his mom?

Just like OJ, u think you know someone BUT we have no idea what these people are like when their not in front of a camera.

I have a feeling that his blood is going to look like Woodstock. And I also bet that there is going to be some kind of brain damage linked to concussions.

What you are going to end up with is a lot of confusion over the "trigger."

The IWC is sort of funny by the way. When Elizabeth died, everyone jumped to the conclusion that Lex Luger killed her because nobody in the IWC thought Luger was a good "worker." With Benoit, everyone is trying to find some special theory to explain it all away, because Benoit was possibly the best "worker" ever. We all have our biases.

I'm not saying that this WAS a direct result of roid rage, Im just saying that many in the media will certainly present that as the case. Its known, or it should be known, that steroids do certainly have many very strong negative effects on some people. I was just trying to say that this adds evidence to the case against steroids and its effects on users, even if there is no direct link

If it turns out that WWE knew that Benoit killed his family and went ahead with that "tribute" show last night, I can almost guarentee that will be the end of WWE.

I really hope they didnt know at all. I hope they only knew he had died.

Sadly, I dont believe that.

Actually knowing? I am not so sure that they did.

Having an idea that wasn't confirmed yet? (like we all had here on ES) I think that is more likely.

Obviously, I know as much as you do but, I am leaning more towards the latter rather than the former. But yeah.. if they did in fact know and carried out the show.. I would hope for it to end.

The WWE is going to take heat for the tribute show. Most of it won't be fair, because (and I say this as someone who does not like Vince McMahon), they had to fill three hours.

I do think they made one mistake: they should not have run all the tributes from the wrestlers. I hate those things anyway, because they strike me as exploitative grief porn.

But in this case, they also allow the fed to look stupid. You had JBL telling a national tv audience what a great father Benoit was two hours before news that he killed his son broke. They should have had McMahon introduce the show and then just run Benoit matches. Hell, his DVD had about three hours worth of matches alone. Just run those with JR introducing them and providing context.

I don't see how they could have known. It's not like the infamous text message read: I just killed my family, now I'm going to kill myself.

I'm sure the message was vague, and it wasn't until after they were found dead that people started to piece things together.

At 8 pm last night, there was no way that the WWE could have known what transpired. If they did, they would not have put on the tribute show that they did last night.

My proof is how fast they rid themselves from everything Benoit today....
