I'm putting this in here to get the POV of other team fans.

Just some statistics:

Holmes had 2000 total yards 3 times, from 2001 (coincidentally his first year in KC) to 2003:

2001: 1555 yards rushing, 614 yards receiving (2169 total yards)

2002: 1615 yards rushing, 672 yards receiving (2287 total yards)

2003: 1420 yards rushing, 690 yards receiving (2110 total yards)

Larry Johnson, in his first season seeing siginificant playing time had 1750 yards rushing and 343 yards receiving (2093 total yards).

I allready know the answer.

If you buy you are a Redskin homer.

If you sell well then you can put naked pictures of Portis in your sig and swear to god that you are totally objective.

   I was actually trying to make this a serious question; the Reggie Brown thread was one of the better ones I've been a part of. :2cents:

All right then. If we are serious I'll go on the record as selling this one.

2000 yards is one hell of a milestone to reach. Not many guys have hit the 2K mark in league history. Based on that I'd be shocked if he hit it this year.

However, if I had to give a definitive reason why he won't I'd say because he has to play the Boys, Eagles, and Giants twice a season. Those defenses are too tough. In order to get 2K he would need great games against each of those teams.

You're a stud jrock.

Yep yep, only thing to see here in this thread. I voted that way, too.

I'll sell, mostly because I think between the weapons at WR and TE and the more than capable backup RBs we have Portis isn't going to be leaned on quite as heavily this year. At least not until the playoffs. We've got to keep him fresh. He missed games at the end of each of his first 3 seasons and was obviously banged up at the end of last year. We're going to need a fresh Portis in the playoffs.

I'm selling for the same reasons above. The only thing that makes me wonder is his personal goal is 2,000 rushing isn't it? I know its possible, especially since we're talking total yards, but with so many other weapons, I'll give the same answer I gave to the Brown thread. They'll spread the ball around more so he won't have the necessary touches.

The key will be staying healthy.

The OL is in prime condition with Thomas returning even if he is not 100% at 75% he is still one of the best guards in the league.

3 out of 4 years he has topped 1500 yards, and should equal that total again if not improve.

The key will be in his receptions.

2002 Denver Broncos 33 364 11.0 66

2003 Denver Broncos 38 314 8.3 72

2004 Washington Redskins 40 235 5.9 18

2005 Washington Redskins 30 216 7.2 23

he's barley topped 200 yards since being a Redskin. One of the differences however, in Gibbs offense, and Saunders version is the RB gets more passes, and wider run lanes with the 3/4 WR spreading out the defense.

LJ '05P- 33 343 10.4 36

LJ broke 2000 total yards starting in only 9 games

In his 3 not injury shorten years Holmes also topped 2100 total

Rushes:

2001 327 1555 4.8 41 8 11 80

2002 313 1615 5.2 56 21 9 100

2003 320 1420 4.4 31 27 6 88

receptions:

2001 62 614 9.9 67 2 5 2 21

2002 70 672 9.6 64 3 6 3 30

2003 74 690 9.3 36 0 7 0 36

The Skins OL is comparable to the Chiefs, probably a little more athletic, and younger

Portis has the speed and ability to equal Holmes and Johnson's totals, it's all going to boil down if he can stay healthy.. Last season was his first one with out missing a game or two for some minor injury. The next question is will he increase his receptions total... he has good hands and willing... but the added touches increases the risk of injury.

I'd say he has a 60% or better chance of reaching it.

The Skins offense will be a little more balanced in 2006. I see Portis getting 20-25 carries a game and averaging around 100 yards a game. He has a shot at 2000 rushing yards and 2000 total yards with the holes that will be there and his talent in open space. I have to sell though because of all the talent the Skins have on offense. With Moss, Lloyd, Randle El, and Cooley it will be hard for Portis to have 2000 total yards. I say Portis will have around 1600 rushing yards, if he can get the extra 400 in the receiving game will be the question.

That really is insane if you think about it. 2000 total yards starting in only 9 games.:yikes:

Is it possible for him to get 2000 yards? Yes. however I dont see what everyone is so excited about in relation to him getting yardage. Fans are focusing on the wrong stat. Preist Holmes over the last 5 seasons has averaged 15.2 touchdowns per season, and thats with last season's 6 td's dragging it down.

CP can get 2000 yards, but more importantly, I think he can get 20 touchdowns.

I predict that he will finish in the neighborhood of 1700 yards and 17 touchdowns. If that seems absurd just look at the amount of scoring Holmes and Johnson were doing under Saunders.

I don't think it's very likely. With the revamped receiving corps and chris cooley at tight end, not to mention that typically gibbs likes to put in betts when he's gonna pass it to a running back, it just doesnt seem likely.

Portis has averaged about 230 yards receiving in the last two years here and with all the above reasons, I see that probably dropping. Honestly I'd say the chances of Portis running for 1,650 yards are very good, but reaching the 2,000 yard mark is questionable.
