HOLY COW !http://money.cnn.com/2006/05/23/technology/personaltech/nike_apple/index.htm Pretty sweet. Eventually you will be able to store your workout electronics (pedometers, calorie-burning meters), your ipod, your cell phone, and the kitchen sink all in one device....ahhhh I love technology. Warhead36
Too bad I only have an iPod Mini. But I'd definitely sell it to get a Nano to get that Nike gear.
edgun88
Have you seen the new Ipods? They are so sweet. All they are is a 4 inch long screen and when you want to play music then an image of an Ipod pops up. Did I mention that they are touch screen, and you can watch movies? Sarge
Good idea, but I'll let someone else spend the $500 and see how well it stands up to the pounding
fight_on_til_you_have_won
i have a nano, but im confused on what this nike thing really does, does it make your shoes play music? Basically, there's a special pair of Nikes with a slot in the insole where you slip a sensor that talks to your Nano (which you'd presumably wear on your arm). As you run, it records your time, distance and other pertinent information. Then when you get back home, you sync your Nano with your Mac/PC and you can track your progress. It's a pretty neat idea. ashburnskinsfan
This isn't that new of an idea. A number of manufacturers have had accelerometers before that collect running speed and distance data which can be uploaded and analysed. The new feature is that it will work with the iPod AND the price. They quote twenty nine bucks. Comparable accelerometer features are three times that and iPod anything is never the cheapest on the market. However, if it ties you into Nike product, because of the shoe pouch the accelerometer fits in, maybe Nike are using it as a loss leader?
ashburnskinsfan
Yep. I go through a pair of running shoes in 9-12 months. It'll never take the pounding From the way they describe it, the accelerometer is independent of the shoe. If you're doing reasonable mileage, or have any leg pain, 9 months is a long time to wear the same pair of shoes. 400 miles is a good guideline for replacement. The sole may look OK, but the midsole is what protects you against injury.
