Thanos
So many people speak at you about what your generation is doing wrong.Use this space to tell us what you think of the world my generation is handing over to you? Use this space to tell us what you're doing right and may get lost in the rush to show only the bad things Also , what does your generation think needs to be done to lower crime and other ills out here? Would love to hear from the young people only.

PokerPacker
on the actual topic: your generation is taking away too many of our civil liberties and giving the government too much power over the people. i don't hear many complaints about my generation except that we are lazy as hell, or mabe disrespectful (but that's usually the unfriendly geezer--who only walks out of his house to get the mail--that thinks we're disrespectful.) AJ_Skins
I think the only distinction that's valid is between the baby boom generation and everybody who's younger. They've wrecked a good country. While there were issues, we were in good shape before 1992. Since then, they've been destroying us from within. Once they lose their grip on the reigns of power, things will either get a lot better, or a lot worse. I'm not sure which. There may not be anything left to salvage. If it was so bad, then people wouldn't be trying to break in it, they would be trying to flee from it.
LT Smash
dude, have you seen how people are trying to "protect" their kids? like those no running on playgrounds laws ive been hearing about? and all those pills like ritalin that were all the rage a few years back? im surprised were not even worse off than we actually are. nuposse87
well i'm far different then my parents, maybe cause they are conservative pakistanis and I was raised here in America. I still hold some of their morals they instilled on me, don't drink, don't do drugs, just try to be moral. I think our generation is definitly lazier, i may be part of that problem and i hope to resolve it. I think we're alot more godless as well. I could start the next generation soon too i guess. But i'm not ready top be a babies daddy.
oisn1
In my opinion, I think you guys are handing us a world turned Politically Correct. Nowadays, everything is offensive and nothing can be said without having to watch your mouth. Jokes aren't jokes, anymore. I mean, I guess I can explain why I feel so strongly about this issue. As of late, I've been seeing a more overt type of racism arising. Not against blacks or women, but rather against Whites and especially against white males. Going through my history classes, the revisionist history is amazing. I don't know, but when you live in a world where there can be a black only club in the school but a white only is racist, something is not right. Same can be said for a "women power club" compared to a "man power club". And though I don't blame this on your generation, but I feel that our world is also becoming more and more reckless. A real "It wasn't my fault, but his" society. I can explain that more if you like. But maybe it's not my place to talk about this because most people try to pretend that it doesn't exist. Still, my parents came to country (I'm first generation) to live in a land of equality. It just seems people my age are being brought up in a world that is afraid to say anything for fear of offending someone or being called a racist. That isn't right to me. I still love this country, though. We're just stuck in a "Norv Turner" enviroment.

Personally, i don't think the whole PC thing is as bad as it was about 10 years ago. Nowadays, everything is offensive and nothing can be said without having to watch your mouth. Jokes aren't jokes, anymore. How true is this, really? It creeps up from time to time, but in my experience has little effect on one's daily life. My friends and I make all the raunchy jokes we want, in the appropriate setting. Comedy Central is full of shows which are politically incorrect. We've certainly grown much more accepting of explicit language in TV and radio programming than we used to be. KingGibbs
The kids are a reflection of the parents. True to a certain extent, but I have seen many cases where the parents are model parents, but the kids just don't give a damn and are more of a reflection of their social surroundings rather than their parents. Peer pressure gets the best of these kids today. My biggest pet peeve with today's youth is their laziness and total lack of disrespect towards their elder's. I just turned 39 and I still use yes sir, yes maa'm and hold the door for the lady, but today's youth doesn't even know how to spell respect. Don't get me wrong, I'm not generalizing the whole generation, but I do believe a vast majority of today's youth have a lot to be desired. I also believe that we, as parents need to go back to traditional parenting and take control. Be parents first, friends second and please don't use the "parents are just too busy in today's world" line. Like many of you, my mother worked two jobs and my father was and still is an engineer on the railroad. Yet, they still had time to take me to school, football, baseball or basketball practice and attend the games. Doesn't that sound like what today's parents schedule consist of? Some will argue that today's world is just different then when we were growing up. Oh really? "Today we have war." Ever heard of Vietnam? "Gas prices are out of control." Do a little research on the 70's and our gas shortages. "School is much harder theses days." Really? How many kids actually open a book these days to do their homework? They have a lot more resources than we did. Again, I'm not placing the blame solely on todya's kids because a lot of parents need to look in the mirror and ask "Can I do a better job parenting?" :2cents:

AJ_Skins
Here are some links to a recent Harvard study of attitudes of college students: Harvard University Institute of Politics Spring 2006 Survey Press Release Executive Summary Top Line Data It's all in .pdf format, so it's hard to cut and paste, but the headline of the press release is "RELIGION, MORALITY PLAYING IMPORTANT ROLES IN POLITICS OF COLLEGE STUDENTS, HARVARD POLL FINDS". The general thrust of the findings is that an increasing number of college students can be classified as something called "Religious Centrists", with views that do not fit neatly into conservative or liberal labels. There are a lot of interesting results in the survey if you follow the links.

Used to we counted the friends we ran around with on weekends. Now people count their friend on their myspace site. Also kids are in far worse shape than 20-30 yrs ago. I remember in the 70s every class had its 1-2 fat kids. Now I look around and grade schools are loaded with fat kids. That's a direct effect of their parents though. Parents taking the lazy way out and hitting McDs instead of cooking and letting kids sip on sodas all the time now. Parents have let this happen. Also I blame parents for not limiting computer and XBox time.

Also, a lot of adults are incredibly fat, was that always the case?

Winslowalrob
The world you people are leaving is gonna be tough to fix, I'll tell ya that much. The taxes I am going to hafta pay, the hours I am going to have to work, to save a country that more or less shot itself in the foot, well lets just say I am not looking forward to it. The international anti-Americanism has been a huge dissapointment, and I hope that we can get it fixed so I can show my kids the wonders of this Earth without needing an Embassy escort. I don't enjoy the disrespecting of intellectual pursuits, and as a society we still do not value a good mind. And I hope that by the time I grow up (ok, IF I grow up) white males will quit ****ing about society, Political Correctness at its worst. If I have a kid that ever spouts such nonsense I will disown his ass.
