bubba9497
http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=11709 click link for full article David (Maryville, TN): Did the Redskins improve themselves enough this off-season to make the playoffs again? What is the story on Jason Campbell? Dan Arkush: The answer is yes, but in my opinion it's more because of the addition of Al Saunders to an already loaded coaching staff than the offseason moves the team made. I'm on record as not being a big fan of the expensive free agent moves the Skins made. Archuleta, Carter and Lloyd all offered more minuses than pluses on the Rams and Nienrs, respectively, last season. And they paid way too much for Randle El. But what an amazing coaching staff they have. Their defense under Gregg williams really came on strong. With williams and Saunders, Joe Gibbs couldn't have better top-flight assistants. Corey (Birmingham): Someone touch on it earlier, but I don't think they ever got an answer. Where does the Skins 2005 1st round QB Jason Campbell stand in grand scheme in Washington?? Dan Arkush: Sorry, Corey. I passed on the Campbell query in an earlier Skins question. The team wants him to be ready to playh after a redshirt season. he worked hard this offseason to learn the offense and could get some time as the backup tio Brunell, who's at that age where he could go down at any time and never rise back up. EnFoRcEr_uPu
Fair enough answers. I don't know too much about a lot of the ESPN guys other than those that are always hated on, lol...but this guy seems to be very fair in his opinions.
Jimbo
Offered more minuses than pluses on their former teams? Don't know how in the world he came to THAT conclusion. :insane:
thinker
Offered more minuses than pluses on their former teams? Don't know how in the world he came to THAT conclusion. :insane: Not saying that I agree, but there was pretty well documented press coverage of disharmony between Lloyd and some of his team mates who questioned his heart and desire. There was discussion of unhappiness with Lloyd's focus on music and not seeming to be as upset with losing as some other players were in the locker room and clearly Lloyd wanted out. I also don't think it is much of a leap to conclude that Carter was unhappy in San Fran. He was being asked to play a position that he wasn't comfortable with - OLB on one of the worst teams and defenses in the NFC. Very few players should be happy when they aren't put in a position to succeed and have to play on a losing team. The fact is that what is happening in San Fran is what happened here WAY TOO MANY TIMES. The coaching staff changes, the schemes change, and certain players no longer fit in. I have no problem with these guys if our coaches think they fit in here - even if they weren't happy and didn't fit in at the last place. Don't forget that Moss was totally on the out with the jets, said to be soft, and was being seen as a situational 3rd wr at best.
MuDDSL1DE
Hahaha, cause Randall El had NOTHING to do with the Steelers win in the Super Bowl. <sarcasm>
jtyler42
Those answers seem pretty fair, although the minuses those players presented w/their former teams arent going to be the same w/us...B/c we are going to be using each of the players mentioned differently than their former teams did... jwsleep
Carter was out of position in SFs scheme, and LLoyd wanted more catches. This on a team that SUCKED. It's very hard to say these are negatives--but we'll see when the season comes. About Arch, if he went to Lovie in Chicago, I bet that's seen as a great move. We do it, and it's overpaying, yatta yatta. Whatever. Only one way to find out if these were good moves: play football.
redman
Offered more minuses than pluses on their former teams? Don't know how in the world he came to THAT conclusion. :insane: I'm not sure I understand that either, but let's look at who we signed, each of whom is reaching or in their pro football prime: Carter: drafted as a 4-3 DE, he was forced to switch to being a 3-4 OLB and sometime DE, the proverbial square peg in a round hole on a lousy set of 49'ers teams. Randle El: a converted college QB who has developed nicely into a playmaking return man and WR, he played for the team that proportionally threw the fewest passes in the last 15 years. Lloyd: an extremely gifted receiver and route runner, he played for an offense that arguably had the QB/o-line combination that was the worst in the NFL. Archuleta: While he's suffered from injuries the last couple of years, he's also played for a defense that was long-neglected under the offensive-minded Mike Martz. If you're talking about "buy low, sell high", I'd say we were 4 for 4 buying low. The shakiest acquisition is Archuleta, but I think overall these were very purposeful and smart signings.
