Art McDonough
I have read recently from numerous sources that Marcus Vick is too small to be an effective QB in the NFL. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported today that Vick is actively negotiating a contract with Miami but reported that, " Vick's decision ultimately could come down to what position he wants to play. At 6-feet tall, Vick may be too small to become an effective NFL quarterback which is one of the reasons the Dolphins had him take some snaps at wide receiver." Now don't get me wrong. I couldn't care less about Marcus Vick. I've followed his progress from high school especially when brother Michael said he thought Marcus had more talent than he did at that age. He was a criminal type then and he still is. My question is just how tall do you have to be to be an effective QB in the NFL today. Marcus is 6-0 but so is Michael. Drew Brees is 6-0 and had a QB rating of 104.8 in 2004. I checked it out and there are many starting QB's at 6-1 and 6-2. Granted, a healthy number are much taller. Does size matter (for an NFL QB)? Passizle
I would think so. You have to have height to see over your opponents heads as well as your O-line. As far as the Vicks go, I have never bee really impressed by either one of them. Michaels accuracy has always left me yawning. I think Micheal woud be a great running back or punt returner. As a QB, IMHO, I think he is VERY overrated. The same goes for his brother and I can guess that if he tried stepping on a player in the pros, he would probably end up with a carreer ending injury to his face. I think Marcus should join Ricky Williams in the CFL. The NFL does not need another player with mental problems.
MRMADD
Are they talking about the size of his rap sheet? The size of his gun? Or did that 14-year-old girl he raped talk about his tiny manhood? The guy is a loser. Stop obsessing over him. He's destined for the Lawrence Phillips-Ryan Leaf-Maurice Clarett Hall of Fame for talented clowns with tons of god-given talent and absolutely no character. Rdskn4Lyf21
yep....the size of his ego and the way he acts is a big issue....that size matters....
Dan T.
I think exceptional speed or quickness from a quarterback can overcome lack of size. Even the ability to slide in the pocket in order to open up passing lanes can compensate for lack of size. Miami or anyone taking a shot on Marcus Vick will have to count on that. Joe Theisman is 6 feet tall at best. Fran Tarkenton was listed as 6 feet. I bet he was smaller than that. Doug Flutie had a decent career as a pint-sized QB. So it can be done. Great answer. One of the best parts of the draft was this ****y "little person" did not get chosen. 255 choices and even Miami and Denver didn't waste a pick. SkinsHokieFan
Yea, Marcus is definitley not 6-0, even though he is listed there. Maybe in shoes he is, but not flat footed Probably at best 5'
BlueEyes15
When I saw Marcus Vick working out on the practice field in Miami on T.V., I thought he looked like a high schooler. A lot of athletes exaggerate their height. Today, the size does matter for a qb because teams want a quarterback with durability.

Oldskool
size doesnt matter, character does. Wrong and right at the same time. Character is number one but unless your name is Doug Flutie and you have the tremendous talent that he had, youre not going to overcome being too short to play QB in the NFL. Optimal height is somewhere between 6' 2.5" and 6' 6" The top 3 QB's in the league with the best passing ratings last year (Manning, Palmer and Roethlisberger) all are listed as 6' 5" tall. I assume it helps the QB to scan for your receivers if he has a height advantage over the O and D line, but obviously being over 6 foot is not crucial. :logo:

fwo40
I think scouts were down on a lot of things about Vick, so the lack of ideal height doesn't help..but I don't know that it's a deal breaker. Something like his tendency to lock in and stare down his WR from the snap, may have more to do with things than his height.

Warhead36
If you're going to be a strict pocket passer you have to be tall to be able to see over the Line. Scramblers can be a little bit shorter since they can run around and all that other fun stuff.

Yea -- only problem was that #5 ran a mid 4.6 @ the Fins mini-camp. Very Impressive. If he wants to come try out for my semi-pro team he is welcome. I would honestly enjoy him trying to take our starter's job (would never happen). People just don't wanna realize that he will be lucky to end up a slot WR in the CFL......
